  • Patent number: 6873319
Abstract: The invention provides an electro-optical device capable of a high-quality and high-definition tone display, a driving method thereof, a driving circuit thereof, and electronic equipment using the same. With the invention, one field is divided into a plurality of sub-fields, such that each pixel is turned on or off in each of the sub-fields so that the proportion of the period during which each pixel is turned on to the period during which the associated pixel is turned off within the one field corresponds to the proportion according to the tone data. Further, when each pixel is turned on, either a first voltage which is higher than a constant reference voltage applied to a counter electrode or a second voltage which is lower than the reference voltage is applied to a pixel electrode of the associated pixel, and when the pixel is turned off, a voltage equal to the reference voltage is applied to the pixel electrode of the pixel.

  • Publication number: 20040227710
Abstract: The invention reduces display unevenness between adjacent pixels. Signal-supplying lines have first input terminals T1a, T2a, and T3a at first ends. Selection signals are supplied to the first input terminals T1a to T3a. The signal-supplying lines are connected to terminals Ti1 to Ti3 through wiring lines. For individual demultiplexers, the distance from the terminal Ti1 to the first input terminal T1a, the distance from the terminal Ti2 to the first input terminal T2a, and the distance from the terminal Ti3 to the first input terminal T3a are equal. Therefore, the selection signals supplied to any one of the demultiplexers have the same waveform.

  • Patent number: 6806858
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, signal electrode voltages are generated based on a plurality of scanning pattern sets. A storage circuit stores a display pattern and scanning patterns belonging to a first scanning pattern set PA in association with selection data Ds. A data control unit inverts display data d based on an inversion control signal CTL to generate converted display data d′. The inversion control signal CTL becomes active in association with each element at which the first scanning pattern set differs from a second scanning pattern set. First to third data registers generate a display pattern based on the converted display data d′.

  • Patent number: 6788282
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for driving an electro-optical device in order to reduce the data transfer rate in one subfield while suppressing display nonuniformity. The invention can include a pixel positioned corresponding to each intersection between a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of data lines that are turned on or off in subfields, into which one field is divided. This is accomplished according to a weighting of gray scale data (dcba) indicating the gray scale level of that pixel, and the reference time of weighting for the gray scale data is shifted every scanning line and every subfield. Accordingly, display nonuniformity resulting from unevenness in circuit characteristics, various wiring resistances and the like, can be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20040145597
Abstract: To enhance the gradation characteristics of sub-field driving in order to further enhance the display quality one frame is divided into a plurality of sub-fields SF1 to SF3. Voltage values V, as voltage data for the corresponding sub-fields that is supplied to pixels, are selected from among voltage values V0 to V9 in accordance with gradation data D0 to D5. Gradation display of the pixels is performed by supplying the voltage values V set for the corresponding sub-fields to the pixels. The voltage values V are selected in such a manner that the amount of change in voltages between adjacent sub-fields is one step level or less. Thus, the amount of change in voltages between adjacent sub-fields is minimized.
