  • Patent number: 6426594
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of driving an electro-optical device, such as a liquid crystal display device, including a plurality of scanning electrodes and a plurality of signal electrodes which are formed such that the plurality of scanning electrodes intersect the plurality of signal electrodes, wherein the scanning electrodes are organized into groups, each group consisting of a plural number of scanning electrodes to be simultaneously selected, and scanning electrodes are selected on a group-by-group basis according to the MLS (Multi-Line Selection) scheme. The amplitude of voltages applied to the scanning electrodes is set to be equal to the amplitude of voltages applied to the signal electrodes. This allows circuits such as driving circuits, or a power supply circuit to be constructed in a simple fashion. This driving method is also employed to drive an electro-optical device constructed in a multiple-fold matrix structure.

  • Patent number: 6384593
Abstract: A semiconductor device testing apparatus having a reduced transverse width and compact in size is provided. Adjacent to a constant temperature chamber containing therein a vertical transport means is located a test chamber which is in turn adjoined by a temperature-stress removing chamber likewise containing therein a vertical transport means, so that the constant temperature chamber and the test chamber are arranged transversely in a line, while the temperature-stress removing chamber is located in front of the test chamber when viewed in front view of the apparatus. Further, a loader section is located in front of the constant temperature chamber, and an unloader section is located above the temperature-stress removing chamber. With this arrangement, the transverse width of the testing apparatus may be reduced to about two test tray lengths.

  • Publication number: 20020036610
Abstract: The invention reduces power consumption when, for example, a mobile personal computer is in a power-saving mode or when a cellular phone is in a wait mode, in an electro-optical apparatus, such as a liquid crystal display of the subfield drive type used as a display apparatus for various apparatuses. Three different settings “64”, “16” and “2” are enabled as the number of gray scale levels in an electro-optical apparatus, the number of subfields becoming smaller as the number of gray scale levels is reduced. When a large number of gray scale levels is not required (when in the power-saving mode, the wait mode, etc.), a low number of gray scale levels is set, so that the own capacitance of a liquid crystal layer and storage capacitance are charged and discharged less often.

  • Patent number: 6267920
Abstract: A hydrostatic compression method for producing a fancy log with a decorative and complicated external appearance from a primary wood. In the method, a primary wood having a water content adjusted in the range of 10-80 wt % is brought into a softened state, then the softened wood is compressed with hydrostatic pressure by means of liquid as pressurizing medium. Next, the compressed wood is treated with a fixation means to fix the compressed state. The fixation means can be a shaping jig, a mold, heating in a particular temperature range conducted while constraining the volume relation of compressed wood, cooling down below the softening point of the wood while under pressure, compact-packing together with hard particles into a vessel followed by heating, or a primary wood is chemically treated to form a localized wood-plastics composite before applying hydrostatic compression.

  • Patent number: 6262704
Abstract: A driving method of a display device in which the number of voltage levels of scanning lines during a non-selection period is only one, and the voltage level of a data line corresponding to a display element that presents no image is set to the voltage level of the scanning lines during the non-selection period. The power consumption of the display device is thus reduced. A minimum area of the entire screen of the device is used for image presentation while the remaining area is set to a display-off state (display-off mode) using the above driving method, and thus the power consumption of the display device, for example, in a standby state is reduced. Each of the display-enabled area and the display-off area is flexibly set. A combination of a multi-line driving method and the above driving method helps further reduce power consumption.

  • Patent number: 6252572
Abstract: A display device is provided having M data lines and N scanning lines arranged in a matrix and forming a plurality of display elements disposed at intersections of the M data and N scanning lines, wherein N and M are each integers greater than 1, for displaying an image. A scanning line drive circuit applies a scanning voltage signal possessing a specified selection voltage pattern simultaneously to n scanning lines from among the N scanning lines, where n is an integer greater than 1 and less than N. First and second frame memory devices accumulate display data representing the image to be displayed, such that reading the display data of a first frame period from the first frame memory device is performed substantially simultaneously with the writing of the display data of a second frame period into the second memory device.
