  • Patent number: 6624594
Abstract: A capacitor C1 and a switch element SG are provided in the primary side of a transformer TT in a start-up circuit 5. Charge stored in the capacitor C1 is discharged when the switch element SG is turned on. A capacitor C2 and a rectifying element D2 are inserted between the output of a DC-AC converting circuit 4 and ground. The capacitor C2 is charged by a current flowing in the forward direction of a rectifying element D2. A capacitor C3 and a rectifying element D3 are inserted between a node between the secondary winding T2 of a transformer T and a rectifying element D1, which form a DC-DC converting circuit 3, and a node on a line connecting the second capacitor C2 and the rectifying element D2. The capacitor C3 is charged by a current flowing in the direction as defined by the third rectifying element D3. A node between the capacitor C3 and the rectifying element D3 is connected to a voltage supplying line to the capacitor C1 of the start-up circuit 5, whereby its charge is stored.

  • Patent number: 6617808
Abstract: In a discharge-lamp lighting circuit 1, a DC-DC converter circuit 3 for boosting or lowering DC input voltage Vin from a DC power supply 2, a DC-AC converter circuit 4 for converting the output voltage of the DC-DC converter circuit to AC voltage, and a control circuit 9 for controlling the supply of electric power to a discharge lamp 6 are provided. Further, the supply of power to the discharge lamp 6 is decreased in response to the lowering of the DC input voltage when the lowering of the DC input voltage Vin is detected. The supply of power to the discharge lamp 6 is lowered as the ambient temperature rises even though the lowering of the DC input voltage Vin remains unchanged.

  • Patent number: 6395352
Abstract: When a photopolymerization compound (molecular weight: not less than 300) having at least two ultraviolet light sensitive portions in its molecular structure is mixed with ferroelectric liquid crystal and an exposure to ultraviolet light is performed, a continuous structure is formed over almost whole length between two glass substrates, and a continuous twisted structure is formed between the glass substrates in the state of liquid crystal molecular orientation. Before the exposure to ultraviolet light, the photopolymerization compound does not exhibit satisfactory compatibility with the ferroelectric liquid crystal to be mixed, but exhibits phase separation in the mixed state. The ferroelectric liquid crystal has a bookshelf layer structure.
