  • Patent number: 9426170
Abstract: A system and method for stemming flow of information from a negative campaign are described. A status for each node of a set of preselected nodes in a social network graph is identified. The status indicates whether a node has been infected with information from a negative campaign. A source and a flow of the negative campaign are identified based on the status of the nodes from the set of preselected nodes and a topology of the social network graph. A susceptibility score is computed for one or more nodes of the social network. The susceptibility score is computed using a measure of vulnerability of nodes that have not received the information based on the flow of the negative campaign, and a measure of reachability of nodes from the source. Nodes susceptible to adopting and spreading the information from the negative campaign are identified based on the susceptibility score.

  • Publication number: 20160197823
Abstract: An example method is provided for a first device to perform reverse path maximum transmission unit (PMTU) discovery in a communications network. The method may comprise receiving multiple fragments of a packet sent by a second device via a path from the second device to the first device in the communications network. Based on the received fragments, a reverse PMTU that represents an estimate of a PMTU of the path from the second device to the first device may be determined. The method may further comprise configuring a message that includes data relating to the reverse PMTU and sending, to the second device, the message to inform the second device to size packets for transmission from the second device to the first device based on the data relating to the reverse PMTU.

  • Publication number: 20160191400
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a method for assigning a data flow-specific sequential value to each packet of a data flow that is sent from a source endpoint to a destination endpoint in a network. In some embodiments, the source endpoint receives the data flow from a source application while the destination endpoint delivers the data flow to a destination application. The method of some embodiments assigns separate monotonically incrementing values to the packets of each data flow between the same two endpoints by inserting the incremental values into the IPv4 identification field in each packet's IP header. Some embodiments use this sequential value in order to discover any potential error condition in packet transmission. Some embodiments use the IPv4 identification field values to calculate the transmission rate of a data flow at only one observation point.

  • Publication number: 20160094353
Abstract: A method of submitting multicast membership packets by a host in a multicast domain in absence of a querier to trigger those packets is provided. The host includes a silent state and an active state. In the silent state, the host receives membership query packets from a querier and responds by sending multicast report packets to multicast group addresses that the host is joined. When a membership query packet is not received during a configurable period of time, the host changes from the silent state to active state and starts sending unsolicited multicast report packets to the multicast addresses that the host has joined.

  • Patent number: 9300705
Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for interfacing heterogeneous endpoints and web-based media sources in a video conference. Interfacing heterogeneous endpoints can be challenging due to audio/video (A/V) streams being encoded in a format that is proprietary to a media provider of the A/V stream (e.g., format that is proprietary to Skype). To address such a challenge, a client application from the media provider may be installed at a virtual machine, and may be used to decode A/V streams that are encoded in a format proprietary to the media provider. Further, to display content from a web-based media source (e.g., YouTube) in a video conference, a browser may be installed at a virtual machine, and may be used to virtually render a media signal from the web-based media source, such virtually rendered media signal subsequently being captured and presented in a video conference.

  • Publication number: 20150381509
Abstract: An example method is provided for a source device to perform discovery of a path maximum transmission unit (PMTU) of a path between the source device and a destination device in a communications network. The method may comprise configuring and sending a request message to the destination device via an intermediate device on the path. The request message may be configured to have a size of an estimated PMTU of the path, to cause a reply message to be received from the destination device or at least one report message to be received from the intermediate device, and to include a flag that allows fragmentation of the request message.

  • Publication number: 20150365357
Abstract: A management module is implemented in a virtualization software of a virtualized computing device having one or more virtual machines and a virtual switch configured therein. The management module detects a mismatch between a maximum transmission unit (MTU) of the virtual switch and an MTU of a virtual network interface of a virtual machine. An error message may be immediately returned so that the MTU of the virtual network interface may be corrected in response thereto. Otherwise, an error flag indicating the MTU mismatch is set but the connection between the virtual switch and the virtual network interface is allowed to be established. The error flag may be used as a prompt to correct the MTU of the virtual network interface at a later time or to connect the virtual network interface to a different virtual switch.

  • Publication number: 20150113152
Abstract: A computer implemented method receives a client request message to initiate a network connection. In response to the client request, the method generates a key to represent the client request. The key is generated independent of information provided in the client request message and is generated to correspond to a desired address in a data structure used to track client request message. The method then enters the generated key at the desired address in the data structure and transmits a response message that includes the key back to the client. The network connection between the client and the computer system is established according to the key.

  • Patent number: 8880676
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for the planning of resources used in computing. Usage statistics regarding one or more virtual machine instances executing in a networked plurality of computing devices are obtained. The usage statistics are grouped, for example, based on one or more customer usage classifications, thereby producing one or more usage groups. A corresponding demand forecast is generated for each of the usage groups. A projected demand for one or more physical components of the networked computing devices is calculated according to the demand forecasts.

  • Patent number: 8612596
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for the planning of resources used in computing. Usage statistics regarding one or more machine instances executing in a plurality of networked computing devices are obtained. The usage statistics are grouped based at least in part on one or more customer usage classifications, thereby producing one or more usage groups. A corresponding demand forecast is generated for each of the usage groups. A projected demand for one or more physical components of the networked computing devices is calculated according to the demand forecasts.

  • Patent number: 8352382
Abstract: Techniques for heuristic customer order fulfillment planning. A method may include iteratively partitioning ordered items into shipment groups according to a set partition algorithm. Of a working set including the unassigned items, the algorithm may determine the subset that optimizes fulfillment cost per member of the subset, and may assign this subset to a shipment group. To determine the subset, the algorithm may iterate over the set of combinations of fulfillment decision variables. For each combination, a list of members of the working set that may be shipped according to the combination is generated. The subset of this list that optimizes, per member of the subset, the costs of shipping according to the combination is then identified.
