  • Patent number: 8837823
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a system and method for performing foreground/background separation on an input image. The method pre-classifies (1010, 1020) an input visual element in the input image as one of a first element type and a second element type, dependent upon a predetermined characteristic. The method performs a first foreground/background separation (1030) on the input visual element that has been pre-classified as the first element type, wherein the first foreground/background separation step is based on color data and brightness data of the input visual element. The method performs a second foreground/background separation (1040) on the input visual element that has been pre-classified as the second element type, wherein the second foreground/background separation step is based on color data, brightness data, and texture of the input visual element.

  • Publication number: 20140253214
Abstract: A multiplier circuit for multiplying first and second binary values includes a first logic circuit, a priority encoder, a shifter circuit, and an accumulator. The first logic circuit receives the first binary value and a multiplier modifier, and modifies the first binary value based on the multiplier modifier. The multiplier modifier is generated by the priority encoder. The priority encoder also generates a position binary value indicating the position of a most significant set bit in the modified first binary value. The shifter circuit receives the position binary value from the priority encoder and the second binary value and generates an intermediate result. The accumulator accumulates one or more of the intermediate results and generates a final product that is a product of the first and second binary values.

  • Publication number: 20140229834
Abstract: In the present invention, the means of control and navigation 100 of an electronic device 108 are used for viewing an embodiment of a video, wherein said embodiment is a cached or stored “poster-view” 1 that is a representation and a version of a source video. Said poster-view 1 has integration with the content of said source video. This method implements the use of means of control and navigation 100 of said electronic device 108 to extend the contents of said poster-view 1 from an initial form 4 to an extended form 3 and from said extended form 3, retract the contents of the poster-view to said initial form 4, within the spatial bounds of the poster-view.

  • Patent number: 8803591
Abstract: Forward bulk biasing circuitry for PMOS and NMOS transistors is provided. The bulk biasing circuitry includes two N-type MOS transistors, two P-type MOS transistors, and two capacitors. The forward bias to a bulk terminal of a transistor increases a threshold voltage of a transistor, thereby reducing a transition time and improving the performance of the transistor. The forward bias is provided only when the transistor transitions from one state to another, thereby reducing leakage power dissipation during active and standby modes of an integrated circuit that includes the transistor.

  • Publication number: 20140223131
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to optimizing data transfers between heterogeneous memory arenas. In one scenario, a computer system receives an indication that a data chunk is to be transferred from a first memory arena to a third memory arena, and then determines that for the data chunk to be transferred from the first memory arena to the third arena, the data chunk is to be transferred from the first memory arena to a second memory arena, and from the second memory arena to the third memory arena. The computer system divides the data chunk into smaller data portions and copies a first data portion from the first memory arena to the second memory arena. The computer system then copies the first data portion from the second memory arena to the third memory arena and copies a second data portion from the first memory arena to the second memory arena in parallel.

  • Patent number: 8769455
Abstract: Various embodiments use connectivity information or model(s), design attribute(s), and system intelligence layer(s) to make lower blocks at lower levels aware of changes made in other blocks at same or different levels to implement the design at different levels synchronously. Budgeting is performed for the design to distribute budgets to respective blocks in the design. The various budgets may be borrowed from one or more blocks and lent to a block in order for this block to meet closure requirements such that a total number of iterations of the reassembly process, which integrates lower level blocks into top level design, may be reduced or completely eliminated. The design attribute(s) or the connectivity model(s) or information is updated upon the identification of changes to provide the latest information or data for properly closing a design.

  • Patent number: 8762360
Abstract: Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing methods are provided for implicitly discovering applications using a query or search results, where the query does not explicitly target a particular application. A search engine is used to receive a user-initiated query and to employ a keyword of the query to generate an initial set of search results. Characteristics of the search results are identified and applications that are relevant to the characteristics are determined. The determination of relevant applications include: accessing an application manifest that manages a mapping between applications and predefined characteristics; comparing the characteristics of the search results against the predefined characteristics of the application manifest to determine a match; and, when a match exists between the search-result characteristics and the predefined characteristics, identifying applications mapped to the matched characteristics as being relevant to the search results.

  • Publication number: 20140173625
Abstract: Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems for facilitating task completion through inter-application communication and/or for registering a target application for contextually aware task execution are provided. That is, a current application may display content comprising an entity (e.g., a mapping application may display a restaurant entity). One or more actions capable of being performed on the entity may be exposed (e.g., a reserve table action). Responsive to selection of an action, one or more target applications capable of performing the action on the entity may be presented. Responsive to selection of a target application, contextual information for the entity and/or the action may be passed to the target application so that the target application may be launched in a contextually relevant state to facilitate completion of a task. For example, a dinning application may be launched to a table reservation form for the restaurant entity.

  • Publication number: 20140172840
Abstract: Methods, computer systems, and computer-storage media are provided for augmenting Web-based search results with relevant content received from third-party applications. Each of a plurality of third-party applications is registered to obtain an indication of entity types associated with the each registered third-party application. An annotated search query is received that includes the original inputted search query and at least an entity type associated with the search query. The annotated search query is communicated to those third-party applications having an indicated entity type that matches the entity type associated with the inputted search query. Search results that are relevant to the annotated search query are received from the applications and presented on a results page.

  • Publication number: 20140170084
Abstract: The present invention relates to an oral care composition comprising catechins. We have found that the catechins tend to darken the colour of the chalk based toothpaste due to its oxidation which happens at the high pH of the toothpaste. Once the catechins are oxidized and darken the colour of the toothpaste it is no longer available as such for providing anti-inflammatory benefits. It is an object of the invention to provide a chalk based toothpaste formulation which does not turn substantially dark due to ox illation of catechins. The present inventors while working with oral care compositions comprising catechins preferably green tea catechins for providing anti-inflammatory benefits, surprisingly found that some selected zinc salts when added in particular quantities do not result in darkening the colour of the toothpaste, and also, when stored, are able to deliver green tea catechins.

  • Publication number: 20140172986
Abstract: Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems for providing a third party app through an email user interface are provided. That is, an email user interface may provide access to an email comprising email content (e.g., a message regarding meeting for dinner at the Emerald Tavern). The email content may be analyzed to identify an entity referenced by the email content (e.g., an Emerald Tavern entity). A user intent to accomplish a task may be determined based upon the entity. An action that may be performed to accomplish the task, and a third party app capable of performing the action may be presented through the email user interface (e.g., a restaurant reservation app capable of a reservation task). Responsive to selection of the third party app, the third party app may be executed within the email user interface without transitioning a user away from the immersive email experience.

  • Patent number: 8751676
Abstract: A network protocol unit interface is described that uses a message engine to transfer contents of received network protocol units in message segments to a destination message engine. The network protocol unit interface uses a message engine to receive messages whose content is to be transmitted in network protocol units. A message engine transmits message segments to a destination message engine without the message engine transmitter and receiver sharing memory space. In addition, the transmitter message engine can transmit message segments to a receiver message engine by use of a virtual address associated with the receiver message and a queue identifier, as opposed to a memory address.
