  • Publication number: 20150039832
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a system and method of cache management for a data storage system. According to various embodiments, the cache management system includes a hinting driver and a priority controller. The hinting driver generates pointers based upon data packets intercepted from data transfer requests being processed by a host controller of the data storage system. The priority controller determines whether the data packets are associated with at least a first (high) priority level or a second (normal or low) priority level based upon the pointers generated by the hinting driver. High priority data packets are stored in cache memory regardless of whether they satisfy a threshold heat quotient (i.e. a selected level of data transfer activity).

  • Publication number: 20140340219
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems are described for monitoring physiological parameters by using one or more sensors at a person. First and second physiological parameters of the person are monitored. A determination may be made, at the one or more sensors, that at least one of the first and second physiological parameters has crossed a threshold. An alert event may be generated at the one or more sensors, based on the crossed thresholds. The alert event may then be transmitted to a computing device that is separate from the one or more sensors.

  • Publication number: 20140343448
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems are described for determining respiration through impedance measurements using only two electrodes. A drive signal may be applied to a person, using only two electrodes. Using the same electrodes, the fluctuations in the voltage of the drive signal are determined. The voltage fluctuations in the drive signal are the result of impedance variations in the person's thoracic cavity due to respiration. Therefore, the voltage fluctuations may be used to determine a respiration rate of the person. In doing so, the voltage fluctuations may be digitized using a sampling rate that is much less than the frequency of the applied drive signal.

  • Patent number: 8887120
Abstract: An on-chip timing slack monitor that measures timing slack at the end of a critical path includes a master-slave flip-flop having a tap on the Q output of the master and a logic module coupled to the flip-flop for producing a pulse whose width is a function of the slack. A pulse width shrinking delay line removes glitches on the flip-flop output and, in combination with a digital integrator and counter, also performs a time to digital conversion operation for determining a value for timing path slack. The determined value is used by a decision module for yield analysis. The monitor can discriminate a glitch from a slack pulse at the flip-flop output for any width of glitch up to one-half of a clock cycle.

  • Publication number: 20140326449
Abstract: This disclosure relates to determining optimal parameters for a downhole operation. In a general aspect, a computer-implemented method for managing a downhole operation is described in this disclosure. The method includes receiving a continuous stream of real-time data associated with an ongoing downhole operation at a data ware house. In the meantime, a selection of a downhole parameter is received from a user. Then, with a computing system, the selected downhole parameter is optimized based on a portion of the received stream of data to approach a target value of the selected downhole parameter. The optimized downhole parameter can then be used in the ongoing operation.

  • Publication number: 20140301604
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for adjusting a set of luminance values associated with a set of visual elements in a current frame (310) of a video sequence for object detection (370). The method determines (410,430,450), for each of a plurality of scenarios (SO, SI, S2), a set of adjusted luminance values based on a corresponding luminance compensation value, and accumulates (460), for each scenario, a set of brightness counts and darkness counts of the current frame based on the set of adjusted luminance values. A metric (470) is calculated for each scenario based on the set of brightness counts and darkness counts and one of scenarios is selected based on the calculated metric. The method then selects (350) the adjusted luminance value associated with the selected scenario as an adjusted set of luminance values associated with the current frame of the video sequence.

  • Publication number: 20140289229
Abstract: A method for detecting solutions to a problem using content in online discussion sources. The method includes receiving a request, such request identifying a problem, and searching multiple online discussion sources for content related to the problem. Responsive to finding content related to the problem, the method searches the multiple online discussion sources for a plurality of solutions to the problem. Responsive to finding a plurality of solutions to the problem, the method forms groups containing the solutions from each of the multiple online discussion sources. The method then determines a likeliness to solve the problem for each of the groups and ranks the groups based on the determined likeliness to solve the problem. The method then determines that the rank of at least one group meets a threshold value, wherein the threshold value is based on a confidence in the likeliness to solve the problem.
