  • Patent number: 8437537
Abstract: A method estimates a 3D pose of a 3D specular object in an environment. In a preprocessing step, a set of pairs of 2D reference images are generated using a 3D model of the object, and a set of poses of the object, wherein each pair of reference images is associated with one of the poses. Then, a pair of 2D input images are acquired of the object. A rough 3D pose of the object is estimated by comparing features in the pair of 2D input images and the features in each pair of 2D reference images using a rough cost function. The rough estimate is optionally refined using a fine cost function.

  • Publication number: 20130097680
Abstract: A multi-tenant, elastically scalable cache as a service is disclosed. Embodiments of the cache service eliminate the need for applications to manage their own cache tier. The multi-tenant cache service is implemented by maintaining/creating multiple named caches in a cache cluster and mapping each tenant's cache to a named cache in the cluster. Strict quotas are enforced on cache sizes This allows caches with different replication attributes to co-exist on the same cache server, allows migration of a cache from one cluster to another for load balancing purposes, and allows a cache to inflate/deflate to meet business needs. A network load balancer is used to route cache items to servers.

  • Patent number: 8410733
Abstract: A hybrid synchronous motor drive circuit and method operates in one or two or more modes based on the speed of the synchronous machine. In a first mode, the synchronous machine is driven at a relatively low frequency by a current controlled voltage source inverter (VSI). In a second mode, the synchronous machine is driven at a relatively high frequency by a load commutated inverter (LCI) in tandem with the VSI. In the second mode, the LCI acts as the main power source for controlling the machine and determining machine torque and speed. The VSI acts as a harmonic compensator by compensating the dominant harmonic currents fed to the machine from the LCI such that the synchronous machine will see sinusoidal currents and thereby sinusoidal voltages at its terminals. The VSI also functions to provide sufficient reactive power at fundamental frequency so that the thyristors in the inverter are load commutated.

  • Publication number: 20130067231
Abstract: In embodiments of load balanced and prioritized data connections, a first connection is established to communicate first data from a first server to a second server over a public network, where the first data is communicated from a private network to a first device or subnet that is connected to the second server. A second connection is established to communicate second data from the first server to the second server over the public network, where the second data is communicated from the private network to a second device or subnet that is connected to the second server. The second server can distinguish the first data from the second data according to an authentication certificate field that identifies one of a first communication interface of the first connection or a second communication interface of the second connection.

  • Publication number: 20130055263
Abstract: A network protocol unit interface is described that uses a message engine to transfer contents of received network protocol units in message segments to a destination message engine. The network protocol unit interface uses a message engine to receive messages whose content is to be transmitted in network protocol units. A message engine transmits message segments to a destination message engine without the message engine transmitter and receiver sharing memory space. In addition, the transmitter message engine can transmit message segments to a receiver message engine by use of a virtual address associated with the receiver message and a queue identifier, as opposed to a memory address.

  • Patent number: 8370950
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to securing mixed-mode applications in a semi-trusted environment. In an embodiment, a computer system securely loads native data files associated with a mixed-mode application. The secure loading ensures that the native components upon which the managed component depends are authentic. The computer system implements a securely stored handle associated with the loaded native data files to provide secure communications between the managed component and the loaded native data files. The handle provides a trusted function pointer to an associated mixed-mode application function. The computer system also initiates a security permission request for each resource that is passed to the native components during execution of the mixed-mode application, so that each resource is verified before execution.

  • Publication number: 20130015431
Abstract: Invention relates to a single step preparation of alkali metal quinolate of general formula 1 wherein M=Lithium, sodium or potassium; R?H, alkyl (C1-C6), alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, amino, amido or halogen (Cl, F, Br, I) which is substituted or unsubstituted with direct reaction of metal with 8-hydroxyquinoline. Substituted 8-hydroxyquinoline optionally have at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, amino, amido at 2, 5 or 7 position. Halogen substituted 8-hydroxyquinolates are also prepared from this method in the yield of 90-95% from polar solvents like acetonitrile. These complexes are useful as light emitting and electron injecting materials in organic electronic devices. Also the doping of these materials in electron transport materials improves their electron mobility.

  • Publication number: 20130018713
Abstract: Systems and methods for e-commerce promotional activities are provided via an analytics server, which provides real-time information concerning customer visits to an e-commerce Website to a merchant that operates the Website, for example via a dashboard or other user interface. The real-time information allows the merchant to monitor and optionally interact with customers visiting the Website, for example by offering customized promotions designed to influence purchasing decisions. Real-time telemetry concerning the customer visits is provided to the analytics server, which then presents the information in meaningful fashions via the dashboard or user interfaces for review by the merchant. Merchant responses to the information is facilitated via deal engines, recommendation engines, and other components, which may operate according to customized rule sets to implement merchant-desired promotions or policies.

  • Publication number: 20130002865
Abstract: A method and system for updating a visual element model of a scene model associated with a scene, the visual element model including a set of mode models for a visual element for a location of the scene. The method receives an incoming visual element of a frame of the image sequence and, for each mode model, classifies the respective mode model as either a matching mode model or a distant mode model, by comparing an appearance of the incoming visual element and a set of visual characteristics of the respective mode model. The method removes a distant mode model from the visual element model, based upon a first temporal characteristic of a matching mode model exceeding a maturity threshold and a second temporal characteristic of the distant mode model being below a stability threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130007712
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for debugging in a multiple address space environment. Embodiments of the invention include techniques for recording debug information used for translating between an abstract unified address space and multiple address spaces at a target system (e.g., a co-processor, such as, a GPU or other accelerator). A table is stored in the recorded debug information. The table includes one or more entries mapping compiler assigned IDs to address spaces. During debugging within a symbolic debugger, the recorded debug information can be used for viewing program data across multiple address spaces in a live debugging session.

  • Patent number: 8341144
Abstract: A search engine stores different taxonomies that each specifies categories and relationships between the categories. When the search engine receives a request having a search query, the search engine determines which taxonomy, if any, it should use to generate a search engine results page. The search engine bases this determination upon information provided to it in the request, in one embodiment. For example, the search engine might select a taxonomy based on the particular environment from which the search query originated. However, the search engine can select the taxonomy based on other information, such as a role of the user. Thus, a medical researcher and a financial analyst for a particular corporation could receive search engine results pages that were generated with appropriate taxonomies for each of them.

  • Publication number: 20120322332
Abstract: Method for producing an oxidized PAN fiber (OPF) wherein a PAN fiber is subjected to an oxidation process in which reactive oxidizing species are maintained in close enough proximity to the PAN fiber during the oxidation process such that a core of the PAN fiber is converted to a crosslinked thermoset morphology before an oxidized shell of the PAN fiber becomes thick enough to substantially inhibit penetration of the reactive oxidizing species into the core. The resulting OPF possesses a density greater than 1.35 g/cm3 and a substantially homogeneous crosslinked thermoset morphology along a radial dimension of the oxidized PAN fiber. Flame-retarded materials containing the resulting OPF, as well as methods for producing such flame-retarded materials, are also described.
