  • Patent number: 8078342
Abstract: Methods for active power management, i.e., the power management method may be activated in response to changes in the supply and demand of power in a system, are disclosed. The power management method may use dynamically collected data reporting levels of electrical power utilized by systems while matching them to the available power. One embodiment of the present invention may be applied in smaller or medium sized systems. Another embodiment of the present invention may be implemented making use of additional aircraft resources, such as an integrated modular avionics (IMA) line replaceable unit (LRU) in larger sized systems. Both of these embodiments may make use of data collected from systems utilizing or generating electrical via the bus power control unit (BPCU) LRU, the data processing taking place either locally in the BPCU (small or medium sized systems) or in the IMA (larger systems).

  • Patent number: 8055088
Abstract: Novel, computationally efficient schemes for deterministic wavelet thresholding with the objective of optimizing maximum-error metrics are provided. An optimal low polynomial-time algorithm for one-dimensional wavelet thresholding based on a new dynamic-programming (DP) formulation is provided that can be employed to minimize the maximum relative or absolute error in the data reconstruction. Directly extending a one-dimensional DP algorithm to multi-dimensional wavelets results in a super-exponential increase in time complexity with the data dimensionality. Thus, novel, polynomial-time approximation schemes (with tunable approximation guarantees for the target maximum-error metric) for deterministic wavelet thresholding in multiple dimensions are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20110258283
Abstract: A network protocol unit interface is described that uses a message engine to transfer contents of received network protocol units in message segments to a destination message engine. The network protocol unit interface uses a message engine to receive messages whose content is to be transmitted in network protocol units. A message engine transmits message segments to a destination message engine without the message engine transmitter and receiver sharing memory space. In addition, the transmitter message engine can transmit message segments to a receiver message engine by use of a virtual address associated with the receiver message and a queue identifier, as opposed to a memory address.

  • Publication number: 20110249472
Abstract: A Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter and a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) scheme for controlling the DAB converter are disclosed. In general, the DAB converter includes a transformer, a first H-bridge that is connected to a primary winding of the transformer and controlled via first control signals, and a second H-bridge that is connected to a secondary winding of the transformer and controlled via second control signals. A controller provides the first and second control signals based on an input-to-output voltage ratio and load of the DAB converter such that, in addition to phase shift control, PWM control is simultaneously applied to both the first H-bridge and the second H-bridge when the DAB converter operates at low power and PWM control is applied to only one of the first H-bridge and the second H-bridge when the DAB converter operates above low power.

  • Publication number: 20110179078
Abstract: Information regarding a mobile user's context including but not limited to current mobile activity, social relations and associations history, and past mobile, search and browsing history is identified and converted to metadata. Metadata is also applied to content sources delivering content to a search engine or personalized content engine. The metadata is used in part to determine the relative display of content objects delivered to the mobile user as search results or a personalized aggregated information resource, e.g., home page. The user may select information, from one or more entities or search results or as presented to the user in other contexts, to be automatically delivered to the user's home page as a content feed including multiple content objects or content feeds associated with an entity. Information regarding mobile user activity is compiled and used to permit publishers and advertisers to identify target candidates to receive advertisements or marketing materials.

Abstract: An automated start/stop system for a vehicle comprises an auto-stop module, a diagnostic module, and an auto-start module. The auto-stop module selectively initiates an auto-stop event and shuts down an engine while the vehicle is running. The diagnostic module selectively diagnoses a fault in a clutch pedal position sensor of the vehicle. The auto-start module, while the vehicle is running and the engine is shut down, selectively initiates an auto-start event after the fault has been diagnosed when current drawn by a starter motor is less than a predetermined maximum starting current.

  • Patent number: 7974956
Abstract: Techniques are provided through which a user is verified as authorized to modify a website. A web crawler generates a filename and content for the user, who purports to be authorized to modify a particular website. The web crawler sends the filename and content toward the user. The user stores a file with the filename on a server that hosts the website. The user places the content within the file. The web crawler determines whether the file is stored on the server and whether the content is in the file. If so, then the web crawler stores information that indicates that the user is authorized to receive information pertaining to the website, which may be confidential information. If the file is not stored on the server or if the file does not contain the content, then the web crawler does not provide any information to the user pertaining to the website.
