Abstract: In example embodiments, a system and method for dynamically scheduling advertising is provided. For example, an advertisement order that describes an advertising campaign in logical terms is received. Stored data of statistically sampled metrics associated with previously distributed programs may be accessed. Based on the stored data and requirements indicated in the advertisement order, the logical terms of the advertising campaign may be translated into physical parameters adapted to facilitate placement of advertisements into an advertising schedule. The physical parameters of the advertising campaign may be provided to a device for creating the advertising schedule.

  • Patent number: 8321388
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein may separate one or more enhancement layers of a multimedia file from a base layer of the multimedia file and treat the base layer and the enhancement layer differently when backing up and/or archiving the multimedia file (e.g., by giving the enhancement layer a lower priority than the base layer). By separating enhancement layers from multimedia files and treating the enhancement layers with a lower priority, these systems and methods may reduce the strain that large multimedia files put on data repositories and associated computing resources (e.g., storage space, network bandwidth, etc.) while still preserving and protecting enough of the multimedia file to keep important information that the multimedia file may contain intact.

  • Publication number: 20120201150
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for measuring consumer experience through an optimal user panel within predetermined error rate, or any other categorization for wireless domain. The data is collected at the panel member's wireless device. Categorization of data is based on but not limited to, product groupings and market segments. To minimize the cost of the method while having the estimate of consumer experience within aforesaid error rates, the panel members are chosen such that they can provide the most informative data of usage for the parameters that effect consumer experience, such as wireless network usage, usage of applications, sequence thereof among others. The focal point of data collection will be to trace the failure rate in the wireless network, devices, application among others. Thus we can apply suitable statistical models of prediction, such as but not limited to Poisson distribution and Empirical Bayes technique. Thus an optimal and more accurate quantitative measure of the estimate is made.

  • Patent number: 6853632
Abstract: A gradient sensitivity based method is described for reducing Peak to Average Power Ratio in multicarrier communication systems. The method involves definition of a differentiable penalty function which has non-zero values whenever there is a peak violation. The gradient of the function with respect to the symbol magnitudes and phases is evaluated at the given symbol vector. Symbol perturbations are computed in the opposite direction of the gradient in such a way that the peaks are reduced and the amount of errors introduced in the symbols is not large enough to affect the decoding process. In order to reduce computation, a variant of the method is proposed where a peak reduction kernel is precomputed and stored. The kernel is rotated to the location of the peak and added with proper sign to reduce PAR.

  • Publication number: 20040240535
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for initializing multicarrier modems communicating over communication channels. The communication channels have a first plurality of subcarriers. The method includes measuring a signal-to-noise ratio for each subcarrier of the first plurality of subcarriers to determine whether the subcarrier is robust. It also includes sending an initialization message to a receiving multicarrier modem to indicate a second plurality of subcarriers which are robust and using the second plurality of subcarriers to send information from the receiving multicarrier modem.

  • Patent number: 6757299
Abstract: This invention pertains to multicarrier systems where the Peak power to Average power Ratio (PAR) is generally high, and where the system has a Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanism. A peak detection mechanism, a procedure for choosing a subcarrier to be modified and a symbol modifier scheme are disclosed for lowering the peak power of a signal while minimizing coding errors. The peak detector uses a threshold for determining whether the PAR reduction is to be applied. A subcarrier symbol(s) to be modified is identified depending on the number of peaks in a frame, by determining the subcarrier symbol which has the maximum effect on the peaks in the frame. One method chooses the subcarrier with the greatest overall effect on a peak in the frame, a second method selects the subcarrier that gives the minimum sum of residual peaks, and a third method is limited to situations where there are only two peaks.
