  • Patent number: 8373515
Abstract: To determine the level of frequency drift of a crystal oscillator as a result of a change in the its temperature, the temperature of the crystal oscillator is sensed and used together with previously stored data that includes a multitude of drift values of the frequency of the crystal oscillator each associated with a temperature of the crystal oscillator. Optionally, upon initialization of a GPS receiver in which the crystal oscillator is disposed, an initial temperature of the crystal oscillator is measured and a PLL is set to an initial frequency in association with the initial temperature. When acquisition fails in a region, the ppm region is changed. The temperature of the crystal oscillator is periodically measured and compared with the initial temperature, and the acquisition process is reset if there is a significant change in temperature. The GPS processor enters the tracking phase when acquisition is successful.

  • Patent number: 8373460
Abstract: A dual loop PLL for generating an oscillator signal initially operates in a digital loop to achieve a frequency lock between an input reference signal and a feedback signal and then the PLL operates in an analog loop to achieve a phase lock. After attaining the phase lock, the analog loop is used to maintain the phase lock across frequency and phase variation due to changes in temperature and supply.

  • Patent number: 8369357
Abstract: An apparatus for providing mobility in an Internet protocol (IP) network environment is provided that includes a cell site element operable to receive an address resolution protocol (ARP) signal from a base station. The ARP signal is associated with a selected mobile station that can roam between networks. In response to the signal, the cell site element evaluates a table that identifies a plurality of mobile stations and if the selected mobile station is not present in the table, then a mobility registration request is generated and communicated to a next destination.

  • Patent number: 8354866
Abstract: A start-up circuit for a PLL includes a phase-frequency detector (PFD), one or more logic gates, a flip-flop and a false detection circuit. The false detection circuit includes a set of series connected flip-flops. The PFD receives a reference signal and a feedback signal. The PFD compares the frequency of a reference signal with that of a feedback signal. If the frequency of the reference signal is greater than the frequency of the feedback signal then a start-up signal is generated and transmitted to the PLL. The PLL increases the frequency of the feedback signal until it is greater than the frequency of the reference signal. The generation of the start-up signal is halted when the frequency of the feedback signal is greater than the frequency of the reference signal.

  • Patent number: 8315246
Abstract: A system for enhancing functionality of a network. In a specific embodiment, the system employs strategic communications between a network controller and a security gateway. The strategic communications occur via a feedback communications channel between the network controller and the security gateway. The feedback communications channel facilitates transferring security information, such as International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and other information, between the network controller and the security gateway. The security information may facilitate enabling the SGW to make intelligent decisions as to how to treat a client communications session. In the specific embodiment, the feedback communications channel includes an intervening Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) server that is coupled between the UMA and the network controller.

  • Publication number: 20120290319
Abstract: Systems and methods can mine structured clinical event data in an electronic health record (EHR) system to determine patient outcomes. Mining the structured clinical event data instead of or in addition to mining discharge summaries can increase the accuracy of patient outcome identification. Sophisticated language models can be used to extract outcomes from discharge summaries while also inferring outcomes from cues or hints contained in the structured clinical event data. For example, the clinical event data can include information regarding treatments and medications prescribed by clinicians to specifically manage patient complications; thus, presence or absence of relevant treatments in the clinical event data can provide independent indicators to disambiguate cases where current language processing approaches fail.

  • Patent number: 8253458
Abstract: A method to operate a digital phase locked loop (DPLL) in which the DPLL includes a phase-frequency detector that compares the frequency of a reference signal with a feedback signal to generate an error signal. The error signal is used to generate first and second control words. Binary current control word bits and thermometric current control word bits are generated using the first and second control words, respectively. A binary controller switches a first set of binary current sources prior to a frequency lock being achieved using the binary current control word bits and the thermometric current control word bits are held at a predetermined value. After achieving the frequency lock, the binary current sources are fixed and then a thermometric controller switches a second set of thermometric current sources using the thermometric current control word bits.

  • Patent number: 8228798
Abstract: In one embodiment, techniques provide QoS-aware service flow mapping in an access network. A message is received from an access device at a gateway in the access network. The message includes a traffic flow specification. The traffic flow specification may include packet filter information, which is used to install a packet filter to route traffic to the access device. The gateway creates a session and associates the packet filter with it. When an incoming packet is received at the network device, the packet is matched to the packet filter. The incoming packet is then sent to the access device for the session. The traffic flow specification may also specify QoS parameters that are desired. The QoS parameters may then be applied to the packet sent to the access device. The gateway and access device may negotiate to determine a QoS to apply.

  • Publication number: 20120105284
Abstract: A system and method for improving acquisition sensitivity and tracking performance of a GPS receiver using multiple antennas is provided. In an embodiment, the acquisition sensitivity can be improved by determining the correlation weight of each received path signal path associated with one antenna form a plurality of antennas and then combining the path signals based on their respective correlation weight. In another embodiment, carrier offset correction information of each path signal is individually determined and then summed together to be used for tracking the code phase in a code phase tracking loop. The code phase tracking loop generates an early code and a late code that are used to determine the code phase error. The system includes notch and bandpass filters to mitigate narrowband and broadband noises of a received GPS signal, wherein the digital adaptive filters are switched on periodically or by external events.

  • Patent number: 8166527
Abstract: Techniques for security association management on a home and foreign agent are described. In one embodiment, in response to a first mobile network registration request from a mobile node, a remote authentication facility is accessed to retrieve a security association for the mobile node for authenticating and providing a first network connectivity to the mobile node, wherein the security association is associated with a lifespan. The security association is inserted in a local security association database (SADB) to create a security association entry, wherein the security association entry includes the lifespan. A second mobile network registration request from the mobile node after the first connectivity is terminated is received and the security association entry in the local SADB that corresponds to the mobile node is used to provide authentication of the mobile node without having to access the remote authentication facility again if the lifespan associated with the security association entry is valid.

  • Patent number: 8149843
Abstract: Techniques for exchanging capabilities in a wireless network are provided. In one embodiment, a first device receives a capability message over a communication link from a second device in a WiMAX network. The communication link may be between any combination of base stations and gateways. For example, the R4, R6, or R8 interface may be used. Other interfaces may also be appreciated in a WiMAX network. The capability message includes one or more capabilities supported by a second device in the WiMAX network. Capabilities to support are then determined based on the one or more capabilities. These capabilities will be supported by the first device for communications with the second device. The first device is then configured to support the determined capabilities. Accordingly, the first device is dynamically configured based on the capability message received.

  • Patent number: 8145208
Abstract: The Multi-Link Aircraft Cellular System makes use of multiple physically separated antennas mounted on the aircraft, as well as the use of additional optional signal isolation and optimization techniques to improve the call handling capacity of the Air-To-Ground cellular communications network. These additional techniques can include polarization domain and ground antenna pattern shaping (in azimuth, in elevation, or in both planes). Further, if code domain separation is added, dramatic increases in capacity are realized. Thus, the Air-To-Ground cellular communications network can increase its capacity on a per aircraft basis by sharing its traffic load among more than one cell or sector and by making use of multiple physically separated antennas mounted on the aircraft, as well as the use of additional optional signal isolation and optimization techniques.
