  • Publication number: 20020050933
Abstract: For the safe evaluation of sensor signals, singular further processing is permitted by producing a redundancy signal in accordance with a prescribed algorithm when the sensor signals are actually generated. The redundant single-channel nature is made possible by virtue of safety-conforming data processing and data transmission being carried out on a single channel by virtue of a downstream processing device deriving dual-channel signals therefrom, by reversing the algorithm, and testing them for plausibility by reciprocal result comparison.

  • Publication number: 20020052679
Abstract: In a method for recognizing the severity of a vehicle collision, wherein the output signal of one or more acceleration sensors is processed and fed to a neural network that controls a release unit for an occupant protection device, and further wherein several occupant protection devices can be selected by the release unit in accordance with the severity and course of the vehicle collision, the future time progression of the output signal of the acceleration sensor is predicted with the help of the neural network based on the acceleration sensor signal values during at least one defined point in time.

  • Publication number: 20020018846
Abstract: A method for providing the surface of base bodies of displacement or angle measuring systems with magnetizable material. Hard ferrite powder or materials comprising rare earths are preferred components of the magnetizable coating material. The composition of the material is changed during application of the coating such that the percentage of the ferrite or rare earth compound is increased.

  • Patent number: 6300866
Abstract: A method is provided for determining the severity and pattern of a vehicle collision. A plurality of crash sensors are located in various points in the vehicle. Output signals from the crash sensors are fed to an evaluation unit. The output signals of the crash sensors are related to a system of coordinates that is invariable relative to the vehicle. Information about the movement of the sensor locations and the system of coordinates is obtained from the output signals.
