Abstract: A ducted wing is configured to be connected to an aircraft. The ducted wing includes an array of integrated jetfoils. Each jetfoil includes a propulsor fan, an upper wing portion, and a lower wing portion that extends past an end of the upper wing portion. Each jetfoil includes a duct formed between the upper wing portion and the lower wing portion where the propulsor is within the duct. Furthermore, each jetfoil may have one or more flaps at the leading edge or the trailing edge of the jetfoil. The jetfoil may have flaps that control either the inlet area or the outlet area of the propulsor fan as well as flaps that control whether the aircraft can operate in one of a plurality of different takeoff modes.

  • Patent number: 11850449
Abstract: An irradiation method and system for irradiating a target volume, the method comprising: providing thermal neutron absorbing nuclides (such as in the form of a high neutron cross-section agent) at the target volume; and producing neutrons by irradiating nuclei in or adjacent to the target volume with a beam of particles consisting of any one or more of protons, deuterons, tritons and heavy ions, thereby prompting production of the neutrons through non-elastic collisions between the atoms in the path of the beam (including the target) and the particles. The neutron absorbing nuclides absorb neutrons produced in the non-elastic collisions, thereby producing capture products or fragments that irradiate the target volume.

  • Patent number: 11781895
Abstract: A system and method for observing fluid flow behavior at a selected site, deriving judgments and recommendations, and further communicating data, judgments and recommendations. The system receives flow rate information, derives a time series of fluid flow events therefrom, identifies compound events consisting of contemporaneous events, disaggregates compound events by application of an unsupervised model, and applies the unsupervised model to derive a solution space of a subset sum problem-type, wherein historical data of the observed fluid flow is not necessarily accessed.

  • Publication number: 20230213375
Abstract: Apparatus (10) for monitoring the condition of an item of electrical equipment (1) whilst in operation comprises a vibration sensor (11) and an electrical sensor (12) operable to detect a characteristic operational electrical signal of the equipment (1). The output of the vibration sensor (11) and the electrical sensor (12) is supplied to a spectrum generator (13) and then to a processing unit (14) operable to process the respective frequency spectrums to generate a frequency response function. Once a frequency response function is generated, the processing unit (14) is operable to compare the generated frequency response function to a model frequency response function. This allows any variations between the generated frequency response function and the model frequency response function to be identified. This could be indicative of a fault and could provide an identification of the nature of the fault.

  • Publication number: 20230198763
Abstract: An anonymous, decentralized, high speed, open source, data-only, wireless network is deployed in physical space. A server attached to the network generates a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) and associates the NFT with a first network device (e.g., a cellular antennae) before the first network device is deployed in the cellular network. After deployment of the first network device into the cellular network, a second network device (e.g., a network validator) can identify the first network device with information from the NFT. In this way, a digital token can identify a physical piece of hardware for communications within the cellular network.

  • Publication number: 20230058254
Abstract: A particle receiver includes an inlet, an outlet and multiple tubes rotatably coupled to the inlet and the outlet. The tubes receive particles via the inlet, the particles passing along a passageway of each of the tubes to the outlet. The tubes receive a solar flux as they rotate to heat the particles passing through the tubes. A heat transfer coefficient of the particles is increased by increased mixing via air flowing in the tubes, fins used to mix the particles or via channels via which the particles pass through that increase turnover and mixing of the particles.

  • Publication number: 20220260284
Abstract: An air receiver for use in a solar power plant receives sunlight from a plurality of heliostats focused on the air receiver via an aperture of the receiver to heat air in the cavity of the receiver. The heated air is directed out of the receiver via one or more output ports in fluid communication with the cavity. A solar power tower can include one or more receivers (e.g., oriented in different directions) and have outflow conduit(s) in fluid communication with the output ports. The outflow conduit(s) receive heated air from the one or more receivers and direct it toward one or both of a hot thermal storage tank and a heat utilization module (e.g., for use in generating electricity or facilitating an industrial process, such as a chemical reaction).
