  • Publication number: 20040171066
Abstract: Template-fixed &bgr;-hairpin peptidomimetics of the general formulae (I) and (II) wherein Z, Z1 and Z2 are template-fixed chains of 8 to 16 &agr;-amino acid residues which, depending on their positions in the chain (counted starting from the N-terminal amino acid) are Gly, or Pro, or of certain types which, as the remaining symbols in the above formulae, are defined in the description and the claims, and salts thereof, have the property to inhibit the growth of or to kill microorganisms and cancer cells. They can be used as disinfectants for foodstuffs, cosmetics, medicaments or other nutrient-containing materials or as medicaments to treat or prevent infections or diseases related to such infections and/or cancer. These &bgr;-hairpin peptidomimetics can be manufactured by a process which is based on a mixed solid- and solution phase synthetic strategy.

  • Patent number: 6263935
Abstract: A radial ply pneumatic tire has a carcass with a bead portion, a carcass reinforcing structure, and a bead filler. The carcass reinforcing structure has at least two structures with cords which extend to each bead. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the tire carcass includes elastomeric first and second fillers, the first filler being located between the first ply structure and the innerliner of the tire, and the second filler being located between the first and second ply structures. The fillers stiffen the sidewalls to permit the tire to be driven while uninflated. The tire further includes an aramid overlay radially outwardly of the reinforcing belt.

  • Patent number: 5851324
Abstract: A radial ply pneumatic tire has a carcass with a bead portion, a carcass reinforcing structure, and a bead filler. The carcass reinforcing structure has at least two plies. The turnup ends of a first or a second ply are wrapped about each bead and terminates in radial proximity of the maximum section width of the tire. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the tire carcass includes elastomeric first and second filers the first filler being located between the first ply and the innerliner of the tire, and the second filer being located between the first and second ply. The fillers stiffen the sidewalls to permit the tire to be driven while uninflated. The tire may further include an aramid overlay radially outwardly of the reinforcing belt.

  • Patent number: 5679188
Abstract: A radial ply pneumatic tire features a bead core which comprises an arrangement of filaments positioned relative to one another. The bead core has a cross-section and radially inward base side, a radially outermost point or side or sides, an axially inward first side, and an axially outward second side. The base side of the bead core is substantially linear and has a width being between 50% to 75% of the rim seat width. An associated rim has a pair of humps and a rim flange associated with each hump. Each rim flange has an axially inward surface, the distance between each hump and the axially inward surface of the associated rim flange being a rim seat.

  • Patent number: 4637349
Abstract: In a system for controlling a number of central heating boilers of large capacity having means for switching-off each boiler when the flow temperature reaches a predetermined maximum, the temperature at which each boiler is switched on again can be automatically varied in dependence upon the outside temperature in such a manner that as the outside temperature rises the boiler is switched on at progressively lower boiler flow temperatures, thus increasing the length of the boiler cycles. This is achieved by a boiler cycling controller which receives signals from temperature detecting devices located externally of the building and in the water flow and return lines and is operable automatically to vary the point at which the boiler is switched on.

  • Patent number: 4189094
Abstract: A control system is provided which automatically varies the degree of ventilation of an indoor swimming pool in response to variations in the outside temperature and comprises separate speed-regulating means for each of the fan-driving motors, each speed-regulating means being operated in response to signals received from a master controller connected to the output of an external temperature sensor. The control system also incorporates means for automatically lowering the level of the temperature to be maintained when the swimming pool is unoccupied, in inverse proportion to the difference between the outside and inside temperatures, this lowering being effected in small increments at relatively long intervals of time.

  • Patent number: 4056669
Abstract: Polymerization of ethylene using a transition metal hydrocarbyl complex, especially zirconium tetrabenzyl, supported on alumina consisting of substantially spherical particles having diameters in the range 20-150 .mu.m. The particulate polymer produced by the process contains substantially no "fines" (i.e. particles <100 .mu.m diameter) and has improved pourability.

The compounds may be used as catalysts alone or when supported upon a matrix for example of alumina. Particularly useful compounds are those in which the transition metal M has a valency lower than the maximum valency for that metal.
