  • Publication number: 20100311448
Abstract: A broadcast channel, such as a broadcast control channel that carries a short message service, in a GSM/EDGE or similar communication system can be extended with additional timeslots. These additional timeslots can be pointed out in a tree structure, the root of which is in the SMS broadcast channel. The extended broadcast channel can be used for broadcast-like services provided under a multimedia broadcast/multicast service.

  • Publication number: 20100210297
Abstract: The present invention provides a user equipment for a telecommunications system, the telecommunications system comprising at least a first radio basestation. The user equipment comprises means for controlling a transmission power of the user equipment, such that said transmission power has a first value for a first set of one or more signals sent over a physical channel between the user equipment and the first radio basestation. The first value and said second value are different. In alternative embodiments, the second set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell and a neighbouring cell, while the first set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell only.

  • Publication number: 20100177721
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for use in a user equipment (10), and relates to a user equipment (10) for enabling a serving base station (40) to estimate interference contribution in a network when scheduling resources for the use equipment. According to the method, the user equipment determines an amount of resources required to send data and the user equipment sends a report to it serving base station when the required amount of resources is greater than a threshold value. In the report, measurements performed by the user equipment are included. The report will assist the serving base station with its estimation of the degree of interference user equipments generates in the network, and hence the power and resources to assign.

  • Publication number: 20090291692
Abstract: A radio network resource controller directs a first network node associated with a first cell region, or a wireless terminal in communication through the first cell region, to measure and report radio resource-related data selected from the group consisting of: resource activity per channel; the number of transmitted power samples that exceed a threshold over a measurement period; and, channel quality samples that exceed a quality threshold. The controller then receives at least one measurement report of the radio resource-related data and, as a function of the radio resource-related data in the first cell region, dynamically reallocates the distribution of resources, such as radio-frequency channels associated with uplink and downlink communications, between the first cell region and at least a second cell region.

  • Patent number: 7554998
Abstract: Route selection through a wireless mesh network between a source node and a destination node is based on minimizing generated interference in order to increase the capacity of the network. An interference energy associated with transmitting a packet over each hop in multiple routes from the source node to the destination node is determined. The interference energy for each hop is combined to generate a combined interference energy for each route. One of the routes is selected based on the combined interference energy determined for each route.

  • Publication number: 20090052322
Abstract: In a mobile communication system having channels with different bandwidths, a channel bandwidth can be dynamically selected for transmitting data over a connection between a radio access network and a mobile station. According to the invention, a channel bandwidth and also a target for a data error rate for the transmission is selected based on a determined transmission need, i.e. a determined characteristics of the data to be transmitted and on a determined load of a communication resource, e.g. channel power and/or total carrier power used in a cell. By making it possible to dynamically select a data error rate, a connection can, by increasing the data error rate and consequently decreasing the channel power, carry on using a certain channel bandwidth even if at a first instance a load threshold level is achieved for the channel power or the total power used in the cell. Thereby, the capacity of the system can be increased, while at the same time the throughput over the connection is increased.

  • Publication number: 20090017823
Abstract: A technique is provided for use by a Multi-Radio Management Resource (MRRM) component of a multi-radio wireless communication system for controlling the handover of a mobile terminal between different radio access technologies (RAT). In one example, all suitable RATs having coverage areas currently covering the location of a mobile terminal are identified. The performance gain that might be achieved via a handover to one of the other RATs is then determined by the MRRM based on various performance gain factors. Handover costs that will be incurred as a result of the handover are also explicitly calculated. Then, a cost-adjusted gain is determined by the MRRM based on the performance gain and the handover costs. A handover is only triggered by the MRRM if the cost-adjusted gain exceeds a minimum threshold. The speed and trajectory of the mobile terminal may also be considered.

  • Publication number: 20080305744
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a wireless station for initiating radio resource measurements. A wireless station identifies a need for radio resource measurements by a second wireless station despite there is no association between the wireless station and the second wireless station allowing direct radio communication between said stations. The wireless station initiates a request for radio resource measurements by the second wireless station.

  • Publication number: 20080232326
Abstract: According to the teachings presented herein, wireless communication network interference is reduced by sending handover measurement information from mobile stations in conjunction with sending uplink scheduling requests, and by correspondingly making combined handover and uplink resource scheduling decisions. In this context, the combined decision considers both the handover measurement information and the uplink scheduling request, and determines whether a serving cell grants or denies the request and whether handover from the serving cell to a neighboring cell is or is not initiated for the mobile station. The combined determination provides for timely handover of the mobile station, such as where the mobile station is operating near a cell edge and issues an uplink scheduling request to its currently serving cell.

  • Publication number: 20080075030
Abstract: Methods for downlink power control in wireless communication systems are provided. In response to a transmitter power change request from a mobile terminal (110) over a wireless connection, a base station (122) determines a power control parameter based on its current total transmitter power PDL. The power control parameter preferably relates to a maximum connection-specific transmitter power, a power step size and/or a power increase probability, and is used by the base station to distribute transmitter power pi to the connection.

  • Publication number: 20070297399
Abstract: In a multi-access system, an access selection principle is achieved by selecting a signal strength threshold level based on a determined load level (ULOCAL) in a first access network. A new user in an area commonly covered by more than one access network attempts to allocate to the first access network if an experienced signal strength exceeds the signal strength threshold level. Communication utility can preferably be maximised or at least be taken into account by using suitable load level dependencies. By increasing the threshold when the load level approaches the capacity limit, a completely filled first access network is avoided. This gives an opportunity to let particularly well-suited users still have access to the first access network. At the same time, since the preferred access is decided before the actual access attempt, control signalling can be significantly reduced, even at very high traffic loads.

  • Publication number: 20070171868
Abstract: A method for selecting radio access system in a multi access system handling packet data services where a terminal can communicate with at least two different types of access systems. According to the invention the method comprises the steps of:—determining (S23) packet characteristics of each packet to be transmitted;—selecting (S31) one of the available accesses for the transmission of each packet, the selection being based on the determined packet characteristic for this specific packet; and—transmitting (S37) the packet through the selected access.
