  • Publication number: 20140223120
Abstract: A memory device may be equipped with quick erase capability to secure the contents of the memory device. The quick erase capability may effectively permanently disable access to data stored in the memory device instantaneously upon a command being issued, making all previous data written to the memory device unreadable. The quick erase capability may allow use of the memory device for new write operations and for reading the newly written data immediately once the erase command is received and executed. The quick erase capability may begin a physical erase process of data not newly written without altering other aspects of the quick erase. Aspects may be accomplished with one or more bits per row in a memory device.

  • Publication number: 20140222210
Abstract: A facility employing systems, methods, and/or techniques for dynamically and adaptively configuring configurable energy consuming and producing devices (e.g., smart energy devices) based on user profiles and user presence information is disclosed. In some embodiments, the facility periodically detects the presence of users, and retrieves preference information for those users. For each of one or more configurable energy devices in the area, the facility generates a combined setting based on the preferences of each user present and adjusts the devices based on the combined settings. For example, if User A, User B, and User C are present in a room and User A's preferred temperature setting is 75° F., User B's preferred temperature setting is 68° F., and User C's preferred temperature setting is 70° F., the facility may generate a combined setting for a thermostat by taking the average value of the users in the room.

  • Patent number: 8798223
Abstract: A clock and data recovery device receives a serial data stream and produces recovered clock and data signals. The clock and data recovery device operates over a range of frequencies and without use an external reference clock. A reference clock generator supplies a reference clock signal to a clock and data recovery module that uses the reference clock as a tuning or reference signal to produce the recovered clock and recovered data signals. The reference clock generator modifies the reference clock signal so that its frequency corresponds, within a small tolerance, to the data rate of the serial data stream. The reference clock generator determines a beat frequency between a voltage-controlled oscillator clock signal and the data rate and adjusts the voltage-controlled oscillator frequency, from which the reference clock is generated, to lower the beat frequency below a divided down version of the voltage-controlled oscillator clock.

  • Patent number: 8799716
Abstract: Detection of heap dump occurrence is facilitated through maintenance of a heap dump location registry. The heap dump location registry indicates tools for which heap dump occurrence is to be detected. Based on periodically referencing the heap dump location registry, it is determined whether heap dump of a tool of the one or more tools has occurred. In one embodiment, startup and shutdown events of the tool are tracked to update execution status and process identifiers in the heap dump location registry, and the periodically references determines based on the indicators whether heap dump has occurred for the tool. In another embodiment, a heap dump location for heap dumps of the tool is obtained from the registry and the heap dump location is checked for the presence of heap dump files, which presence indicates occurrence of a heap dump for the tool.

  • Patent number: 8799631
Abstract: Disclosed is a microprocessor based system with a dynamically selectable Operating System that is capable of providing unique operating systems based upon current hardware states without user intervention. The system will determine the current state of the system and select from a plurality of operating systems the best operating system to load. In normal operating conditions the system will select the most full-featured and robust operating system. If, for example, the system loses alternating-current power, the system will shutdown, reboot, and automatically select an operating system with very limited capabilities and limited power consumption to allow the system to retrieve important data from the cache and store the data to a data storage device.

  • Patent number: 8799222
Abstract: A host-based replication snapshot method. The method includes synchronizing a set of data objects stored at both a replication source node and a secondary node. The method further includes identifying changed data objects out of the set of data objects from the replication source node that have been modified during a time period between a first time and a subsequent second time. Metadata indicating the changed data objects from the replication source node is transmitted to the secondary node. A snapshot is then generated at the second time on the secondary node by using the metadata.

  • Patent number: 8795409
Abstract: A method of controlling an air separation plant and a control system to optimize production of an argon product produced by the plant. A computer program is continually executed that has models of each column of the plant, a condenser reboiler and an argon reflux condenser. The models contain stage models of each stage of separation within each of the columns that when assembled are able to calculate current values of controlled variables in response to input variables applied to the models. The controlled variables serve as an input to a controller that controls manipulated variables comprising flow rates of an air feed stream to the air separation plant, a product oxygen stream removed from the lower pressure column and the crude argon feed stream such that the controlled variables are within a targeted range selected to optimize the production of the argon product.

  • Publication number: 20140208698
Abstract: A method for releasing a lid from a base without disturbing contents and without undue lid stress includes flexing two graspable members at separated locations about the lid periphery, thereby providing two distinct initial disengagement locations and overcoming any tendency of the lid to reactively grip the tray when disengagement is initiated. The separated locations are not directly opposite to each other, and can be separations of between 20 and 60 degrees or between 25 and 50 degrees. The lid is then easily removed by lifting the lid upward. The method can include simultaneous and/or sequential flexing of the graspable members by one or both of a user's hands. The graspable members can include lift tabs and/or indentations. In embodiments where the lid further includes press locations, the method includes pressing on the press locations while flexing the graspable members.

  • Publication number: 20140215556
Abstract: An OpenFlow network controller controls an OpenFlow network. A networking connection is established between the OpenFlow network controller and an OpenFlow network device attempting to become part of the OpenFlow network. After establishing the networking connection with the OpenFlow network device, the OpenFlow network controller attempts to authenticate the OpenFlow network device. Where authentication of the OpenFlow network device is successful, the OpenFlow network controller sends a message to the OpenFlow network device to indicate that the authentication was successful and permits the OpenFlow network device to join and perform OpenFlow messaging.

  • Patent number: 8792550
Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for preventing or reducing the appearance of undesirable color and/or gray patches in decoded video sequences due to generation of out-of-bound quantized transform coefficients during video encoding. Insufficient compression of a video block according to a selected encoding mode and a selected quantization parameter (QP) value may result in the generation and subsequent clipping of out-of-bound quantized transform coefficients for a given video coding standard. The techniques include predicting whether out-of-bound quantized transform coefficients will be generated for a video block, and adjusting at least one of the selected encoding mode and the selected QP value for the video block to prevent the generation of out-of-bound quantized transform coefficients.

  • Patent number: 8788370
Abstract: Various techniques for providing product versioning as a Web Service are disclosed. One method involves receiving a Web Service signature requesting access to a product model. In response to receipt of that Web Service signature, a product model that includes several versions of a product is accessed, and the current version of the product is selected from the product model. The product model can include future versions of he product that are not yet effective; such versions will not be selected as the current model prior to becoming effective. Information representing the current version can then be returned to the request in a second Web Service signature. A single object broker can respond to Web Service signatures requesting access to the product model from various different sales channels.

  • Patent number: 8786665
Abstract: A videoconference may be initiated between a plurality of endpoints. At least one of the endpoints may be coupled to a recording server, which may be configured to record the videoconference. A configuration may be selected (e.g., automatically or manually) for performing the recording. The endpoint (e.g., acting as an MCU) may transmit information to endpoints and may transmit recording information to the recording server. The recording information may be different from the videoconference information. For example, it may be in a “streaming friendly” format, at a different bit rate, encoded differently, have different inputs, etc. The manner in which the videoconference is stored and/or recorded may be based on the selected configuration. Clients may be configured to receive and display the videoconference from the recording server and may be configured to change the provided layout to different layouts, e.g., based on user input.
