  • Patent number: 8810156
Abstract: A light-emitting diode (LED) driver system includes a control circuit that provides a waveform for driving a power transistor to generate a regulated current through one or more LEDs, and an error amplifier that generates an output compensation signal based on a comparison of a desired regulated current and an actual regulated current through the one or more LEDs. The output compensation signal is used to set an output compensation voltage that sets the duty cycle of the waveform. The LED driver system further comprises a dimming control device configured during a dimming control mode to alternate between dimming-on time periods and dimming-off time periods, and a sample and hold switch having a first state for holding the output compensation voltage fixed during each dimming-off time period, and a second state for restoring the error amplifier to its previous dimming-on operating state upon returning to each subsequent dimming-on time period.

  • Patent number: 8807466
Abstract: In a method of reclaiming constituent components of sealed batteries, the batteries are initially ground to form a ground feedstock. The ground feedstock is heated to form a dried feedstock. The dried feedstock is screen separated into a coarse fraction and a powder fraction, the coarse fraction including a magnetic fraction and a non-magnetic fraction. The coarse fraction and the powder fraction are further vibratorily segregated. The magnetic fraction may be magnetically extracted from the coarse fraction, while the powder fraction is outputted.

  • Patent number: 8812517
Abstract: A way of detecting a watermark present in a structured result, such as a search result or a machine translation. The structured result is received and a hash is computed based upon at least part of the result. The resulting bit sequence is tested against a null hypothesis that the bit sequence was generated by a random variable with a binomial distribution with a parameter p=0.5. The result of this test is compared to a significance level, which indicates whether the structured result is watermarked.

  • Publication number: 20140229112
Abstract: Adsorbed gas in a formation may be estimated. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data for a subsurface geological formation is obtained, and at least a portion of the NMR data is corrected to produce corrected NMR data. A NMR-based estimate of formation porosity is determined using the corrected NMR data. Dielectric permittivity data for the subsurface geological formation is obtained, and a dielectric permittivity-based estimate of the formation water-filled porosity is determined using the dielectric permittivity data. A gas volume is determined using the determined NMR-based estimate of the formation porosity and the determined dielectric permittivity-based estimate of the formation water-filled porosity. The gas volume may be determined by subtracting the determined dielectric permittivity-based estimate of the formation water-filled porosity from the determined NMR-based estimate of the formation porosity. The gas volume per unit volume of the formation may be determined using an equation of state.

  • Publication number: 20140229717
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to binary translator driven program state relocation. In general, a device may protect vulnerable program functions by setting them as non-executable. If an attempt is made to execute a protected program function, the program may trap to a binary translator in the device that may be configured to relocate program state from what has already been established (e.g., on a stack register). Program state may include resources (e.g., memory locations) used by the program during the course of execution. The binary translator may then translate the program into an executable form based on the relocated program state, and may be executed accordingly. Intruding code that attempts to overcome normal program execution and implement hostile operations (e.g., based the program state that is reflected in the stack register) will not function as intended since the relocated program state will cause unexpected results.

  • Patent number: 8804837
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for selecting a mode to encode video data. The method comprises the steps of (a) transforming a source video frame into a set of coefficients, (b) partitioning said set of coefficients into a plurality of subsets of the coefficients on the basis of probability statistics corresponding to a plurality of encoding modes, wherein each of said subsets is identified for encoding by one of the plurality of encoding modes. The method comprises the further steps of (c) for each of the plurality of subsets of coefficients, computing defined parameters of an associated probability distribution for said subset, and (d) repeating steps (b) and (c) until a predetermined termination condition is satisfied. When this predetermined termination condition is satisfied, the subsets of coefficients, as they exist at that time, are output to a video encoder, which preferably is a Wyner-Ziv encoder.

  • Patent number: 8806295
Abstract: An embodiment is a method for encoding data with an error correction code. The method includes receiving a first number of data symbols by a memory controller, receiving a second number of meta-data sub-symbols, generating a third number of check symbols using an ECC, where the third number includes a difference between a number of symbols in an ECC codeword and the first number and generating a mismatch vector from the check and meta-data sub-symbols, where a number of sub-symbols of the mismatch vector includes the second number. The method also includes generating an adjustment syndrome symbol by multiplying the mismatch vector by a matrix, generating the third number of adjusted check symbols responsive to the adjustment syndrome symbol, and generating a final codeword by concatenating the adjusted check symbols and the data symbols, where the final codeword includes the number of symbols in the ECC codeword.

  • Patent number: 8804438
Abstract: A memory device that accurately tracks memory operations includes a vertical loopback for tracking a sense clock signal to a row address decoder, and read and write reference bit lines in a reference column that include loopbacks for vertically tracking a selected bit line during read and write operations. Preferably the widths of word lines and a sense line are equal to enable the sense line to horizontally track any selected word line. The memory device also includes tri-state input/output (I/O) latches to latch sense amplifier outputs. A drive circuit of the tri-state I/O latch is disabled when the output is available at the corresponding sense amplifier and enabled when the output is latched by the latch circuit.

  • Patent number: 8806256
Abstract: A power supply unit of an information handling system determines that a power consumption module of the information handling system is available. If the power consumption module is available, the power supply unit measures input power of the power supply unit and provides a representation of the input power to the power consumption module in response to receiving a power measurement request from the power consumption module. If the power supply unit determines that the power consumption module is not available, the power supply unit measures input power of the power supply unit and stores a representation of the input power at the power supply unit independent of a power measurement request from the power consumption module.

  • Publication number: 20140223567
Abstract: An incident triage engine performs incident triage in a system by prioritizing responses to incidents within the system. One prioritization method may include receiving attributes of incidents and assets in the system, generating cumulative loss forecasts for the incidents, and prioritizing the responses to the incidents based on the cumulative loss forecasts for the incidents. Another prioritization method may include determining different arrangements of incidents within a response queue, calculating cumulative queue loss forecasts for the different arrangements of incidents within the response queue, and arranging the incidents in the response queue based on the arrangement of incidents that minimizes the total loss to the system over the resolution of all of the incidents present in the response queue.

  • Publication number: 20140217173
Abstract: A label for enabling verification of an object includes a scannable region that enables determination of auto-acquired unique spatial orientation of the scannable region with respect to a reference thereby enabling determination of a spatial orientation of the label with respect to the reference. The label is applied onto the object and a change in the spatial orientation of the label indicates tampering of the label, thereby enabling verification of the object. Further, a method for detecting tampering of an object includes providing label on the object. The label has at least a portion which is scannable region with a plurality of patterns and is associated with an external reference point. Further, the method includes determining a first and a second spatial orientations of the label based on computation between the patterns and the reference point, and generating an alert on noticing a change between first and second spatial orientations.

  • Publication number: 20140216465
Abstract: Contraceptive methods, systems, and devices generally improve the ease, speed, and reliability with which a contraceptive device can be deployed transcervically into an ostium of a fallopian tube. The contraceptive device may remain in a small profile configuration while a sheath is withdrawn proximally, and is thereafter expanded to a large profile configuration engaging the surrounding tissues, by manipulating one or more actuators of a proximal handle with a single hand. This leaves the other hand free to manipulate a hysteroscope, minimizing the number of health care professional required to deploy the contraceptive device.
