  • Patent number: 8688159
Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism for efficient channel selection in a wireless communication system. A wireless communication device (WCD) receives from a radio access network (RAN) a channel list message that specifies channels on which the RAN communicates in a coverage area. Further, the WCD receives from the RAN for at least a given one of the channels an expected delta value indicating an expected difference in signal strength between that channel and another channel. The WCD may then take an actual measurement of signal strength on the other channel and apply the expected delta to predict a signal strength of the given channel. Based on the predicted signal strength being threshold low, the WCD may then select a channel other than the given channel on which to communicate with the RAN, and the WCD may then communicate with the RAN on the selected channel.

  • Patent number: 8682852
Abstract: Maintaining data at a failover site includes an application writing data at a primary site corresponding to the failover site, where data is transferred asynchronously from the primary site to the failover site, the application issuing an application check point and initiating a system check point in response to the application issuing the application check point, where the system check point causes data at the failover site to be consistent with the primary site. The application check point may complete only after the system check point completes. The application check point may complete independently of completion of the system check point. The application check point may complete either only after the system check point completes or independently of completion of the system check point according to a specific criteria.

  • Patent number: 8683134
Abstract: A prefetch controller implements an upgrade when a real read access request hits the same memory bank and memory address as a previous prefetch request. In response per-memory bank logic promotes the priority of the prefetch request to that of a read request. If the prefetch request is still waiting to win arbitration, this upgrade in priority increases the likelihood of gaining access generally reducing the latency. If the prefetch request had already gained access through arbitration, the upgrade has no effect. This thus generally reduces the latency in completion of a high priority real request when a low priority speculative prefetch was made to the same address.

  • Patent number: 8682895
Abstract: A real-time messaging platform and method is disclosed which classifies messages in accordance with a combination of user engagement events as modified to reflect the temporal structure of the user engagement events. A message can be assigned a metric based, for example, on a weighted combination of user engagement rates, decayed with time to reflect an intuition that recent interactions by one or more users with the message will have a greater impact than older interactions with the message. Different types of interaction by one or more users with the message can be assigned different weights when the different engagement events are combined and, also, can be assigned different temporal characteristics.

  • Patent number: 8683133
Abstract: A real request from a CPU to the same memory bank as a prior prefetch request is transmitted to the per-memory bank logic along with a kill signal to terminate the prefetch request. This avoids waiting for a prefetch request to complete before sending the real request to the same memory bank. The kill signal gates off any acknowledgement of completion of the prefetch request. This invention reduces the latency for completion of a high priority real request when a low priority speculative request to a different address in the same memory bank has already been dispatched.

  • Patent number: 8682819
Abstract: Architecture that employs machine-based learning to automatically categorize data on a per-user basis. Auto-tagging reduces the burden on infoworkers by creating a machine learning model to learn from user tagging behavior or preferences. Once this information is obtained, a trained model for this specific user is used to assign tags to incoming data, such as emails. The architecture finds particular applicability to compliance and message retention policies that otherwise would mandate extra work for the infoworker. The architecture learns the tagging behavior of a user and uses this learned behavior to automatically tag data based on the user's prior tagging habits. A regression algorithm is employed to process the training data according to an n-dimensional framework for prediction and application of the tag(s) to the incoming messages.

  • Publication number: 20140081354
Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for combining an image of a region defined by the user to receive stimulation therapy with an image of representation of leads which will deliver the therapy to the defined region, and importing the combined image on an implantable medical device connected to the leads that will deliver the stimulation therapy. During the process of combining the images, the user manipulates one or both of the images to combine the image such that the leads are placed for accurate therapy delivery. In some examples where more than one region is to receive stimulation therapy, each region can have a different image and/or a different set of leads associated therewith, and a combined image of each region may be produced, manipulated, and imported on the implantable medical device.
