  • Publication number: 20130262906
Abstract: A power supply unit of an information handling system determines that a power consumption module of the information handling system is available. If the power consumption module is available, the power supply unit measures input power of the power supply unit and provides a representation of the input power to the power consumption module in response to receiving a power measurement request from the power consumption module. If the power supply unit determines that the power consumption module is not available, the power supply unit measures input power of the power supply unit and stores a representation of the input power at the power supply unit independent of a power measurement request from the power consumption module.

  • Publication number: 20130252576
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring identity information for temporary use by a wireless device, visiting a foreign operator network, is provided. A user is presented, at a kiosk, with an opportunity to download a temporary identity which is recognized by the operator network as belonging to a local subscriber, and the user may make a request for service. In response to the user-generated request for service, local identity information is transferred to the wireless device for use thereby. The transfer is short-range wireless communication from the kiosk to the wireless device. The temporary identity, once installed on the wireless device, makes the wireless device appear as a local subscriber. Upon termination of use, the temporary identity is returned to a pool and usable for another wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20130251653
Abstract: The present invention relates to a personal care composition, particularly, a stable sunscreen composition. The problem associated with a dibenzoylmethane sunscreen is its relatively unstable nature, especially in the presence of a UV-B sun-screen. There is a need for using more readily and easily available compound as a sunscreen stabilizer thereby ensuring reduced cost of such sunscreen compositions. The present inventors have worked intensively on solving this problem and found that a derivative of an active (gingerol) found in ginger i.e. zingerone, provides for such improved stability.

  • Publication number: 20130244608
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide devices, methods, and systems for use in emergency call situation. For example, in one embodiment, a mobile wireless device transmits a registration message upon an end of an emergency callback mode, which takes place after an emergency call made while the mobile device is in airplane mode, to ensure that the network is aware of the active status of the mobile device. This way, the user of the mobile device can receive all incoming calls after the cessation of the emergency callback mode, relieving the user of the inconvenience of being unaware of their inability to receive incoming calls. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

  • Publication number: 20130243075
Abstract: System and methods for modifying streaming data based on radio frequency information is provided. As radio transceivers transition move to a shared resource or cloud model and the existing radio transceivers are split into a baseband unit and a remote radio head, radio frequency (RF) information including power levels, encoding, data rates, and bandwidth can be provided to video optimization server. The RF information can be provided more frequently to allow real-time modifications to streaming video data. Existing protocols are reactionary in nature and perceive changing channel conditions indirectly. By providing RF information from the baseband unit on a low latency channel, modifications to the video stream can be made before an impact would be noticed at the protocol level. Also, policy information can be used to influence the changes made to streaming data in addition to the RF information.

  • Publication number: 20130246820
Abstract: An apparatus and method for dynamically adjusting power limits for processing nodes and other components, such as peripheral interfaces, is disclosed. The apparatus includes multiple processing nodes and other components, and further includes a power management unit configured to set a first frequency limit for at least one of the processing nodes responsive to receiving an indication of a first detected temperature greater than a first temperature threshold. Initial power limits are set below guard-band power limits for components that do not have reliable reporting of power consumption or for cost or power saving reasons. The amount of throttling of processing nodes is used to adjust the power limits for the processing nodes and these components.

  • Publication number: 20130247135
Abstract: In a method for scaling up/down security (non-functional) components of an application, determine (a) types of interactions and a number of each type of interaction each non-security (functional) component has with security components for a plurality of requests. Determine, based on (a) and an expected number of incoming requests to the application, (b) types of requests to and interactions with the security components involving the non-security components and (c) a number of requests to and interactions with the security components involving non-security components for each type of request to the security components involving non-security components. Determine, for each security component, a capacity required for each type of request involving the non-security components and a capacity required for each type of interaction involving the non-security components. Change the capacities of the security components to new capacities, wherein the new capacities are based on (a), (c) and the determined capacities.

  • Publication number: 20130244686
Abstract: Techniques and tools for reducing power consumption of computing devices (e.g., mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablet computers) that perform position tracking operations are described. In described examples, a low-power processor calculates (e.g., in real time) position information (e.g., GPS position fixes) based on information received from a positioning system (e.g., GPS) and stores the position information for later use in a buffer associated with the low-power processor (e.g., in storage on the low-power processor). Described examples allow position information to be calculated in real time and stored while the device is in a low-power state, and can be used with location-based applications that do not require position information to be delivered to the application in real time.

  • Patent number: 8539087
Abstract: A method for defining and managing a composite service group for a cluster based computer system is disclosed. The method includes instantiating a plurality of application units on a cluster based computer system, wherein the application units implement a business service. The method further includes receiving a composite service group definition, wherein a composite service group enumerates application units, out of the plurality of application units, that implement the business service, and generating a consolidated status of the composite service group. The business service is then started (online)/stopped (offline)/migrated/failed-over/failed-back in accordance with the consolidated status, as a single unit, by using the composite service group.

  • Patent number: 8539008
Abstract: An extent-based storage architecture is implemented by a storage server receiving a read request for an extent from a client, wherein the extent includes a group of contiguous blocks and the read request includes a file block number. The storage server retrieves an extent identifier from a first sorted data structure, wherein the storage server uses the received file block number to traverse the first sorted data structure to the extent identifier. The storage server retrieves a reference to the extent from a second sorted data structure, wherein the storage server uses the retrieved extent identifier to traverse the second sorted data structure to the reference, and wherein the second sorted data structure is global across a plurality of volumes. The storage server retrieves the extent from a storage device using the reference and returns the extent to the client.

  • Publication number: 20130238768
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods of synchronizing a target configuration file of a target device with a source configuration file of a source device. A parser of a first device may group commands from a source configuration file of a source device into subsets of commands. Each subset of the subsets of commands may comprise commands uniquely identified by a common attribute. A configurator of the first device may load into memory a command from a target configuration file, the command having a first identifying attribute. The configurator may load into memory a subset of commands having a common identifying attribute that matches the first identifying attribute. The configurator may compare the command with each command in the loaded subset. The configurator may generate a command for the target device, to synchronize a portion of the target configuration file with the source configuration file.
