  • Patent number: 8250173
Abstract: A method and system for creating and navigating linear hypermedia resource programs are disclosed. The system includes a distributed hypermedia resource network having a plurality of hypermedia resources residing on one or more remote information nodes. A common remote information node is in communication with a subscriber station and the remote information nodes in the distributed network. The common remote information node contains at least one linear hypermedia resource program consisting of pre-selected media elements from one or more hypermedia resources linked with exclusive linear links, each media element in the linear program having only one forward link to the next media element. The method includes the steps of downloading and displaying a media element in the linear program and responding to user commands to download and display the next media element in the linear program.

  • Patent number: 8240199
Abstract: The present invention provides a subsea apparatus for testing a hydraulic signature which has a fluid supply, a first pressure line coupled to the fluid supply, a second pressure line coupled to the fluid supply; and a pressure recording device operatively coupled to both the first pressure line and the second pressure line. A pressure recording device is capable of storing pre-determined pressure data representative of said pressure lines. The first pressure line functions at a lower pressure than the second pressure line while a pressure recording device records data to allow comparison of actual pressure data on the first and second pressure lines with said stored data.

  • Publication number: 20120121691
Abstract: A method to improve the effectiveness of cancer treatments by increasing the production of specific ACYL-chain dihydroceramide(s). Increase of native chain-length dihydroceramides is directly cytotoxic to human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line MOLT-4 ALL cells with a cytotoxic potency that is dependent upon the specific fatty acid acyl-chain length and saturation of the dihydroceramides. The combination of sphinganine and GT-11 lead to cell death in the absence of an increase of reactive oxygen species, suggesting that the ability of fenretinide to increase cytotoxic ROS is mechanistically independent of dihydroceramides increase and related cytotoxicity. Most unexpectedly, supplementing the exposure of cancer cells to a dihydroceramide-increasing anti-hyperproliferative agent(s), such as fenretinide, with specifically-chosen fatty acids can increase the cytotoxicity of the anti-hyperproliferative agent to the cancer cells to a beneficial effect.

  • Publication number: 20110270135
Abstract: A system for continuously monitoring a user's motion and for continuously providing realtime visual physical performance information to the user while the user is moving to enable the user to detect physical performance constructs that expose the user to increased risk of injury or that reduce the user's physical performance. The system includes multiple passive controllers 100A-F for measuring the user's motion, a computing device 102 for communicating with wearable display glasses 120 and the passive controllers 100A-F to provide realtime physical performance feedback to the user. The computing device 102 also transmits physical performance constructs to the wearable display glasses 120 to enable the user to determine if his or her movement can cause injury or reduce physical performance.

  • Publication number: 20110232856
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of cooling machines. Typically, the method of cooling is useful in the cooling of dies used in the moulding of plastics or metals. The method relies upon taking advantage of the latent heat of vaporisation of a cooling liquid. A liquid is maintained in a closed chamber in a die such that the liquid is in contact with the surfaces to be cooled and a space above the liquid surface is available. The pressure in the space is adjusted, typically by vacuum equipment, such that the boiling point of the liquid is adjusted to a level which enables the principle cooling process to involve latent heat.

  • Patent number: 8006813
Abstract: A method of controlling the temperature of a brake arrangement for a machine is disclosed. The method includes providing a flow of pressurized fluid to the brake arrangement and sensing a first temperature of the fluid downstream of the brake arrangement. The method also includes determining a first temperature range for the brake arrangement and determining if the first sensed temperature falls in the first temperature range. The method also includes requesting an adjustment of at least one fluid parameter of the flow of pressurized fluid in response to determining that the first sensed temperature does not fall within the first temperature range such that the sensed temperature moves to the first temperature range.
