  • Publication number: 20140073203
Abstract: An electrical connection assembly includes a plurality of primary electrical conductors, a secondary electrical conductor, and an electrical connector. The electrical connector includes: a first connector body including an exterior conductor seat channel; a second connector body coupled to the first connector body such that the first and second connector bodies collectively form an axial through passage; a primary clamping mechanism on at least one of the first and second connector bodies; and a secondary clamping mechanism on the first connector body. The secondary connector extends through the exterior conductor seat channel and is clamped therein by the secondary clamping mechanism. The primary conductors extend through the axial through passage and are clamped therein by the primary clamping mechanism to the first and second connector bodies and to one another to mechanically and electrically connect the primary and secondary conductors.

  • Patent number: 8376314
Abstract: A controllable solenoid valve having a sealed chamber that isolates the armature cavity from the function fluid or external water sources with oil or dielectric fluid and is ported to a reservoir or to a surrounding housing to maintain fluid communication with the armature cavity. The valve may also have a closed internal chamber filled with oil or dielectric fluid to maintain isolation of the armature cavity from the function fluid or other water sources. The closed chamber may also encompass the electrodes or the coil of the solenoid. In a preferred embodiment, the chamber is in fluid communication with transducers that sense fluid pressure.

  • Publication number: 20120322096
Abstract: An animal stroke model is provided. The model is useful in the study of brain ischemia and/or reperfusron injury and in identification and testing of compounds and interventions useful in the treatment of stroke. The method is carried out in a non-human mammal, such as rat. The method of inducing ischemia and/or reperfusion injury involves exposing a portion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) and temporarily occluding it at one or more distinct locations, preferably three distinct locations. The model results in highly reproducible and focal infarct sizes with low rate of mortality during the experimental procedure.

  • Publication number: 20120301039
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of determining one or more event subsets within a plurality of images. Each image is associated with time and location data specifying the time and location of capture of the image. The method determines a time variable for each adjacent pair of images in a capture time ordered list of the plurality of images. A distance variable for each adjacent pair of images in the ordered list of images is then determined. The method determines speed data of the image capture device at the time and location of capture of each image. The ordered list of images is then partitioned into one or more event subsets on the basis of a cost function, the cost function being determined in accordance with a normalisation of the time variable and distance variable, wherein the time variable and the distance variable are weighted relative to the speed data.

  • Publication number: 20120284621
Abstract: A method and system for creating and navigating linear hypermedia resource programs are disclosed. The system includes a distributed hypermedia resource network having a plurality of hypermedia resources residing on one or more remote information nodes. A common remote information node is in communication with a subscriber station and the remote information nodes in the distributed network. The common remote information node contains at least one linear hypermedia resource program consisting of pre-selected media elements from one or more hypermedia resources linked with exclusive linear links, each media element in the linear program having only one forward link to the next media element. The method includes the steps of downloading and displaying a media element in the linear program and responding to user commands to download and display the next media element in the linear program.

  • Publication number: 20120283966
Abstract: The present invention provides a subsea apparatus for testing a hydraulic signature which has a fluid supply, a first pressure line coupled to the fluid supply, a second pressure line coupled to the fluid supply; and a pressure recording device operatively coupled to both the first pressure line and the second pressure line. A pressure recording device is capable of storing pre-determined pressure data representative of said pressure lines. The first pressure line functions at a lower pressure than the second pressure line while a pressure recording device records data to allow comparison of actual pressure data on the first and second pressure lines with said stored data.

  • Publication number: 20120121691
Abstract: A method to improve the effectiveness of cancer treatments by increasing the production of specific ACYL-chain dihydroceramide(s). Increase of native chain-length dihydroceramides is directly cytotoxic to human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line MOLT-4 ALL cells with a cytotoxic potency that is dependent upon the specific fatty acid acyl-chain length and saturation of the dihydroceramides. The combination of sphinganine and GT-11 lead to cell death in the absence of an increase of reactive oxygen species, suggesting that the ability of fenretinide to increase cytotoxic ROS is mechanistically independent of dihydroceramides increase and related cytotoxicity. Most unexpectedly, supplementing the exposure of cancer cells to a dihydroceramide-increasing anti-hyperproliferative agent(s), such as fenretinide, with specifically-chosen fatty acids can increase the cytotoxicity of the anti-hyperproliferative agent to the cancer cells to a beneficial effect.
