  • Publication number: 20150123649
Abstract: Apparatus and techniques for controlling measurement of an electrical parameter of an energy source can be used to obtain information for use in enhancing a power transfer efficiency between the energy source and a load. For example, during a first measurement cycle, information indicative of the electrical parameter of the energy source can be obtained using a measurement circuit during a first sampling duration in which the load is decoupled from the energy source. The information indicative of the obtained electrical parameter can be compared to a threshold. In response to the comparing, a different second sampling duration can be determined for use in obtaining information indicative of the electrical parameter during a subsequent measurement cycle. The information indicative of the electrical parameter of the energy source includes information for use in enhancing the power transfer efficiency between the energy source and the load.

  • Publication number: 20150115923
Abstract: A switching regulator or other apparatus or techniques can include load current monitoring to provide a digital representation of an estimated load current. Load current monitoring can be performed by a circuit including a counter circuit, a comparator circuit, and a digitally-controlled source coupled to the counter circuit and configured to adjust a bias condition of a sensing device in response to a count provided by the counter circuit in order to establish a proportional relationship between a current conducted by the sensing device and a corresponding current conducted by a power switching device. The counter circuit is configured to increment and decrement the count in response to information provided by the comparator output and the count is generally indicative of the estimated load current, such as an average load current.

  • Publication number: 20150120775
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to processing queries using schema graph traversal and to establishing a schema graph that allows queries to be answered by traversing graph nodes. In one scenario, a computer system receives a query which specifies relational tables and corresponding relationships that are to be retrieved from a relational database. The computer system accesses a schema graph that includes graph nodes representing relational tables, as well as edges that identify relationships between the relational tables. The graph nodes include relational data that was loaded from one storage area (e.g. a non-volatile storage area), and the schema graph is stored in a second storage area (e.g. a volatile storage area). The computer system then traverses the schema graph, beginning at a set of graph nodes and continuing along the edges to other graph nodes until the query has been satisfied, and then reports the results of the graph traversal.

  • Patent number: 8981667
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a fully integrated accurate LED output current controlling circuit and method, which can be seamlessly combined with true PWM dimming. The current controlling circuit has an auto zero function in the light-emitting diode driver to eliminate offsets caused by the system, process variations, parasitic effects, dimming and so on in an LED driver application, and thus is capable of controlling the LED current with high accuracy. Moreover, the driver of the present disclosure does not require the use of external components such as an external resistor to regulate current accuracy.

  • Patent number: 8941368
Abstract: A method and system to inhibit the switching of a current mode switching converter having high and low side switching elements coupled to an output inductor, the other end of which is coupled to an output node, and operated with respective modulated switching signals to regulate an output voltage Vout produced at the node. A current IC that varies with the difference between a reference voltage and a voltage proportional to Vout is compared with and a current IDETECT—PEAK which varies with the current conducted by the high side switching element; the result of the comparison of IC and IDETECT—PEAK is used to control the regulation of Vout during normal operation. Current IC is also compared with a current IDETECT—VALLEY which varies with the current conducted by the low side switching element. When IDETECT—VALLEY>IC, a ‘skip mode’ is triggered during which the switching signals are inhibited.

  • Patent number: 8928303
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for generating a drive signal of a switching signal are disclosed. A first circuit receives an oscillating reference signal, a first compensation signal, a second compensation signal, and a third compensation signal. The first compensation signal is indicative of an error between an output voltage of a power converter and a reference voltage. The second compensation signal is indicative of the error relative to a threshold. The third compensation signal is indicative of an output current of the power converter. The first circuit generates a comparison signal having a waveform including pulses having durations based at least partly on a combination of the periodic reference signal, the first compensation signal, the second compensation signal, and the third compensation signal. A second circuit receives a clock signal and the comparison signal and generates a drive signal for activation and deactivation of a driver transistor.

  • Patent number: 8887119
Abstract: A method can reuse at least one pin in demultiplexing (demuxing) a voltage from a pin. The method can be used to set an accurate current limit threshold in a design for test (DFT) phase and, thus, to accurately set a trimming code of a current limiter. The method uses the property that a power MOSFET has almost a same conductive resistance at a large drain current. Thus, the current limit threshold can be set according to an accurate drain-to-source voltage Vds at a small current sink that is less than a maximum current that ATE is able to provide. An accurate voltage Vds can be measured through Kelvin sensing drain and source pins of the power MOSFET, which are connected to a current sense circuit.

  • Publication number: 20140253083
Abstract: In one aspect, this disclosure relates to a method of controlling current output from a switching regulator to a load via an inductor. Inductor current information can be sampled at a peak level, such as just before a transistor configured to cause current to flow through the inductor is turned off. The sampled inductor current can be compared with a reference current, and a current limit threshold can be adjusted based on the comparison. The output current of the switching regulator can be controlled based on a comparison of the current limit threshold with an indicator of current flowing through the inductor. This method can accurately and efficiently limit current in a switching regulator.
