  • Publication number: 20050154762
Abstract: Enabling a relatively fast look up for a rule associated with an arbitrarily selectable IP address. In one embodiment, RSBound objects are sorted into an array where each RSBound object is composed of a bound IP address (BIP), sister BIP, type, index, sister index, and a configured rule. The BIPs are derived from arbitrary user-specified IP addresses or IP address ranges. Each single IP address configuration derives one RSBound entry, where the BIP is the given IP address itself; and each IP range configuration derives two RSBound entries, and the range's lower bound and upper bound are their respective BIPs. The array is sorted primarily based on the RSBound's BIP value, and their type and pair information are the tiebreakers. If a configured rule needs to be searched for a given IP address, a binary search is performed first to find a starting entry, from where a jump-skip search is performed to find the best matching rule for the given IP address.

  • Patent number: 6916850
Abstract: Certain known and novel pyruvate derivatives are particularly active in restoring or preserving metabolic integrity in oxidatively competent cells that have been subjected to oxygen deprivation. These pyruvate-derived compounds include, but are not limited to oximes, amides, pyruvate analogues, modified pyruvate analogues, esters of pyruvate (e.g., polyol-pyruvate esters, pyruvate thioesters, glycerol-pyruvate esters and dihydroxyacetone-pyruvate esters). Such pyruvate derivatives (including single tautomers, single stereoisomers and mixtures of tautomers and/or stereoisomers, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof) are useful in the manufacture of pharmaceutical compositions for treating a number of conditions characterized by oxidative stress.

  • Publication number: 20050104942
Abstract: An ink cartridge has an ink tank for reserving ink and a joint connected to the ink tank, the joint including an outer frame having an ink channel, and a sealing member made of an elastic material and received in the outer frame, the sealing member having a cylindrical portion and a valve portion. When an ink supply pipe having an ink inlet is inserted into the cylindrical portion, the cylindrical portion abuts against an outer circumference of the ink supply pipe on an ink flow downstream side of the ink supply pipe with respect to the ink inlet. The valve portion leaves the outer frame so as to open the ink channel when the ink supply pipe is inserted into the cylindrical portion, and when the ink supply pipe is not inserted into the cylindrical portion, the valve portion abuts against the outer frame to close the ink channel.

  • Publication number: 20050071451
Abstract: In an application-level background transport service, a receiver node infers the available network capacity between itself and a sender node over a control interval. Based on the inferred available network capacity, the receiver node adjusts its receive window size accordingly in order to conservatively optimize the bandwidth used by a background transfer without degrading performance of other foreground transfers on the network. The adjusted receive window size is communicated to the sender node, which is likely to adjust its send window size based on the adjusted receive window size.

  • Publication number: 20050015599
Abstract: The invention provides a two-phase hash value matching technique in message protection systems. This invention further improves the performance of message protection systems by avoiding computations associated with sophisticated signature hash value (SSHV) where possible. A message protection system that implements the two-phase hash value matching technique caches rough outline hash values (ROHVs) of previously scanned objects. The system can roughly distinguish one object from another using ROHVs. The system performs an initial check using ROHVs before performing the relatively time-consuming computations associated with SSHVs.

  • Publication number: 20040267837
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for updating network appliances using urgent update notifications. The network appliances periodically initiates connection to “poll” updates from the update server and the update server collects IP addresses from the connections and updates an IP address log. The update server obtains updates for the network appliances and determines whether a particular update is urgent. When an urgent update is available, the server delivers an urgent update notification (UUN) to each known network appliance through an existing port used for messaging. Each network appliance receives the UUN and distinguishes it from other messages. In response to the UUN, each network appliance automatically connects to the server, obtains the urgent update and installs the urgent update.

  • Patent number: 6824980
Abstract: A method for detecting and/or quantifying a target DNA or RNA present in a sample by a isometric primer extension method is disclosed. The method includes carrying out a primer extension reaction in the absence of a free nucleotide so that the primer extension reaction is stopped where the absent nucleotide would have been inserted. Thus, as the amount of incorporation of a labeled nucleotide on the primer extended product is detected, the amount of the target RNA or DNA in the sample is measured.

  • Patent number: 6806675
Abstract: A stepper motor control circuit reduces ripple current by applying both fast and slow current decays to a motor phase when current is being reduced in the motor phase while following a falling current waveform. The control circuit uses an initial fast decay to reduce a winding current and then switches to a slow decay until a winding current is sampled again. The control circuitry samples a winding current and compares the sampled current to a reference current to determine if current is to be applied or reduced using fast and/or slow decay methods. Different phase current sample circuits allow either constant current sensing or selective current sensing.

  • Publication number: 20040199585
Abstract: A mail transfer agent adapted for determining the disposition of incoming e-mail from a sender includes a penalty count filter module which functions on the basis of current communication system resource usage, such as the number of concurrent TCP connections being maintained, and penalty counts assigned for cumulative undesirable sender activity such as sending large e-mail files. The penalty count filter module can operate in a selective-rejection state accepting e-mail from senders without a penalty count and randomly accepting other e-mail, and in a random-rejection state rejecting all e-mail from senders with a penalty count and randomly rejecting other e-mail. The rejection rates can be increased or decreased in response to a detected increase or decrease in the usage of system resources.
