The control member is movable between three positions along an axis perpendicular to but spaced from the first axis to disengage a toothed portion of either of the ratchet blocks from teeth on the ratchet member so as to control the driving direction of the ratchet device.

A sleeve is mounted around and movable relative to the body along a longitudinal axis of the body between a coupling position in which the bit is retained in the engaging groove and a releasing position allowing removal or insertion of the bit. The sleeve further includes an engaging section that slideably abuts a coupling section of the body. The engaging section is engaged with the coupling section to allow joint rotation of the body and the sleeve about the longitudinal axis. The sleeve further includes a flange with a frictional outer periphery to provide friction when the sleeve is manually rotated about the longitudinal axis by rotating the frictional outer periphery. Furthermore, the flange can be gripped by a user to move the sleeve to the releasing position.

A dustproof seal is compressed and received in the dust groove to block communication between the gaps. The seal includes a ring having first and second surfaces spaced along the axis. An outer periphery of the seal presses against a peripheral wall of the compartment. A wing extends from one of the first and second surfaces of the ring, presses against one of the first and second faces of the dust groove, and is not in contact with the third face of the dust groove.

    Abstract: An open-end wrench includes a jaw portion having two engaging portions and an opening between the engaging portions. Each engaging portion includes a driving face having a tip. A corner is formed between a bottom end of the opening and each driving face. A first length is defined between the bottom end in a direction perpendicular to an imaginary line passing through the tips. A spacing between the tips is larger than 0.95 times the first length and smaller than 1.05 times the first length. Two corners of a fastener received in the opening are located on the imaginary line and flush with the tips. Each engaging portion has a width at an associated corner in a direction perpendicular to an associated driving face. The width is the maximum distance from each driving face to an outer surface of the associated engaging portion. The width is larger than 0.2975 times a width between two parallel sides of the fastener and smaller than 0.4025 times the width of the fastener.

    Abstract: A quick-release bit adapter includes a body having a driving hole extending from a driving section towards a connecting section of the body. The driving section includes a sliding hole extending at a non-parallel angle to and in communication with the driving hole. A resilient positioning member is mounted in the driving section. A releasing device is slideably mounted in the sliding hole. When the releasing device is in a first position, the resilient positioning member is engaged in cuts in an outer periphery of a bit in an engagement position received in the driving hole. When the releasing device is moved to a second position, the bit is disengaged from the resilient positioning member to allow easy removal of the bit.

A slide is slideably received in the sliding groove and includes an arcuate sliding face slideable along the sliding wall. Two wings respectively extend from top and bottom faces of the slide. Top and bottom extension faces extend from a wrenching face of the slide and are located on inner faces of the wings. When the open end wrench drives a workpiece to rotate, an outer face of each wing is partially in contact with the second jaw. Force imparted from the workpiece to the wings is transmitted to the second jaw.

A switch is received in a switch groove in the head and pivotable about a pivoting axis. A control member is movable between two positions to control engagement between the pawl and the drive member through sliding movement of a guide of the switch in a control groove in the control member. The guide of the switch contacts the contact groove at a contact point when the control member is in either operative position. A tangent to an outer surface of the guide at the contact point has an angle not larger than 45° relative to a reference line extending perpendicularly to the pivoting axis and intersecting a longitudinal axis of the guide.

    Abstract: A tool assembly includes a body having a receptacle. An adapter includes a shoulder, a head, and a neck interconnecting the head and the shoulder. The head engages with an inner periphery of the receptacle, allowing joint rotation of the adapter and the body. The head is slideably received in the receptacle between first and second positions. A C-clip is received in a retaining groove in the inner periphery of the receptacle. When the head is in the first position, the shoulder is received in the receptacle, the C-clip distends and clamps the shoulder to keep the adapter to be coaxial to the body. When the head is in the second position, the shoulder is outside of the receptacle, the C-clip abuts an outer periphery of the head, and the head is rotatable to a position such that the adapter is at an angle to the body.

The switch pivots in the switch groove with the pin sliding in the guiding groove when the reversing plates pivots to control engagement between the drive member and the first and second pawls for controlling a driving direction of the ratchet wrench.
