  • Publication number: 20140098657
Abstract: Measures for use in recovering from ciphering errors in an unacknowledged mode environment. The measures, including methods, apparatus, and computer program products, may utilize a user equipment (UE), such as a mobile terminal, to communicate with a network node, such as a wireless station. The network node may mark Radio Bearers (RBs) communicating in the UM RLC mode to manage re-establishment of RBs in response to a ciphering error. In the event of a ciphering error in communications between the UE and the network node, the network node may cause a radio link failure. The radio link failure may cause the UE to initiate a cell update. In response to the cell update, the network node and the UE may each re-establish marked RBs, thus reinitializing the cipher values and correcting the error.

  • Patent number: 8683554
Abstract: A method for managing third party application program access to user information via a particular native application program interface (API) is provided. The method includes providing a wrapped native API including a wrapper library and inspecting a third party application program for the presence of the wrapper library in an unmodified form. The application program is inspected to identify API calls. An identified API call to a circumventing API is instrumented by wrapping the circumventing API to generate a wrapped non-circumventing API and modifying the third party application program to redirect the identified API call from the circumventing API to the wrapped non-circumventing API. A request for a permission to access user information is received from the third party application program via the wrapper library executed on a user device.

  • Publication number: 20140082509
Abstract: A family-plan management system integrating family plan widgets on mobile devices that interact with an API maintained and used by a central server is described. The family-plan management system enables high-visibility, low-effort communications between family-plan members as well as easy access to family-plan services offered by the central server. The API automatically identifies family plan members by accessing a database and then implements high-value web and mobile add-on services for the family plan members. The family-plan management system enables control and use of the family plan by the family plan member and enables the carrier to upgrade family plan services without direct action on the part of family plan members.

  • Publication number: 20140038579
Abstract: Measures for controlling a communication mode setting, such as a power saving procedure in a UE. A UE sends a communication mode preference indication to a communication network control element under consideration of a default prohibit timer. When a response to the communication mode preference indication is received by the UE, it determines whether a change of the behavior for transmitting the power preference information, e.g. a change of a prohibit timer value, is to be executed.

  • Publication number: 20140031025
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for maintaining synchronization with respect to the security configurations of the network and a mobile terminal, even during a cell update procedure. A method may include causing a cell update message to be provided during performance of a cell update procedure and including, with the cell update message, a security configuration information element indicating that a mobile terminal has applied an updated security configuration in an instance in which the mobile terminal has applied the updated security configuration. The method may also include, with the cell update message, the information element indicating that the mobile terminal has reverted to a prior security configuration in an instance in which the mobile terminal has reverted to a prior security configuration.

  • Patent number: 8594646
Abstract: A wireless device is wirelessly connected to a wireless network which is controlled by network control apparatus. The wireless device operates in a first activity state in which data can be transmitted to and received from the wireless network over one or more dedicated logical channels. The wireless device transitions to operate in a second activity state having lower power consumption than the first activity state if it is determined by the wireless device that data has not been transmitted by and has not been received at the wireless device for a predetermined period of time. The predetermined period of time is known to both the wireless device and the network control apparatus. The transition takes place synchronously without requiring control signals to be passed between the wireless device and the network control apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20130303176
Abstract: Embodiments include a method by which a network equipment efficiently directs a device attempting a connection to a congested or limited-capacity portion of a network to another resource (e.g., cell, frequency, and/or RAT) where the attempt is more likely to be successful. This method utilizes a connection reject message that comprises a small amount of information pointing to information broadcast in system information (SI) messages. The reject message may be used with existing or, alternately, enhanced SI messages comprising tags that resolve the pointer information in the reject message. Embodiments also include methods by which a device redirects to a resource based on the information contained in the reject and SI messages. Other embodiments include methods by which a device deprioritizes a resource during cell reselection based on information contained in the reject and SI messages. Embodiments include wireless communication devices, network equipment, or computer-readable media embodying these methods.

  • Patent number: 8548474
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and an apparatus implementing the method. In the method is received a neighbor cell relation list and a request to report new cells not included in the neighbor cell relation list to the mobile node to a mobile node. The mobile node detects at least one new cell not included in the neighbor cell relation list and stores information regarding the at least one new cell not included in the neighbor cell relation list in a memory. The mobile node determines whether a threshold number of new cells not included in the neighbor cell relation list have been stored in the memory of the mobile node. In response to reaching the threshold number, the mobile node preparing for transmitting the information regarding the at least one new cell not included in the neighbor cell relation list to a radio network node.

  • Publication number: 20130242765
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enabling ciphering error detection and recovery in a telecommunications network. Predetermined data is inserted into at least one radio link control service data unit at a network entity. The predetermined data has the same form as a packet data convergence protocol header. The at least one radio link control service data unit comprising the predetermined data is transmitted to a user equipment in the network. As a result, the user equipment is able to apply, on the basis of the predetermined data, either an unacknowledged mode radio link control ciphering error detection and recovery mechanism or a packet data convergence protocol ciphering error detection and recovery mechanism to the at least one radio link control service data unit.

  • Publication number: 20130219228
Abstract: Automated testing of application software is performed by recording the output of at least one sensor that produces sensor information. A harnessed app being tested requests sensor information. Those requests are intercepted and recorded information that corresponds to the requested sensor information is retrieved and sent to the harnessed app as sensor information.

  • Publication number: 20130210438
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to permit a neighbor list to be updated, such as by removing a monitored cell or adding a detected cell. The method determines that a monitored cell that is on the neighbor list or a detected cell that is not on the neighbor list satisfies predetermined criteria defining an event. The method also causes information to be provided regarding the monitored cell or detected cell in response to the event, and then receives a message adding the detected cell to the neighbor list or removing the monitored cell from the neighbor list. Once a detected cell is added to the neighbor list, the method may use the detected cell to determine a frequency quality estimate, use the detected cell for inter-frequency measurements or consider the detected cell for inclusion in a virtual active set.

  • Publication number: 20130189972
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to determine if a measurement event is satisfied by one or more detected cells and to correspondingly advise the network to facilitate consideration of whether a handover or cell reselection procedure is desired. The network may, in turn, determine whether the detected cell(s) that satisfied the measurement event are appropriate to be considered in conjunction with a handover or cell reselection procedure, such as by being in the same public land mobile network (PLMN) as opposed to being in a different PLMN and/or cells that are barred or reserved for operator use. Thus, the network may take advantage of opportunities for handover or cell reselection offered by a detected cell, while still insuring that handover or cell reselection procedures remain limited to cells that are appropriate.
