  • Patent number: 4636315
Abstract: A fluid distributor comprises a distributor body having a fluid port at one face and a distribution surface at the opposite face, with the distribution surface having a plurality of uniformly spaced distribution openings. Fluid passages defined by channels and bores in the distributor body provide fluid communication between the fluid port and the distribution openings such that there is substantially equal fluid flow to each distribution opening. A method of fluid distribution particularly adapted for chromatography applications is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4597924
Abstract: A process is disclosed for improving the mechanical properties and procesility of thermoplastic composite propellants achieved by incorporation in the propellant of from about 0.1% to 1.0% of an organic titanate of the general formula Ti(OR).sub.4, where R represents a common alkyl group. The process comprises dissolving in an excess amount of a volatile organic solvent a thermoplastic elastomer which consists of hard segments having substantially crystalline properties and soft segments having substantially amorphous properties. The hard segments impart rigid properties to a solid propellant composition with which it is combined, and the soft segments imparting rubbery properties to a solid propellant composition with which it is combined. The Ti(OR).sub.4 functions as a medium between the surface of the ammonium perchlorate (AP) oxidizer and the thermoplastic elastomer to improve processability and to provide a bonding substrate to enhance the adhesive bond between the AP and the thermoplastic elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4597180
Abstract: A punch tool is disclosed for puncturing the walls of heat exchanger tubes when they become worn in order that the tubes may be repaired. Said tool comprises a hardened, longitudinally drilled, steel rod that is able to fit within the heat exchanger tube. A piston with a cutting bit is fit within a milled slot that communicates with the longitudinally drilled hole of the hardened rod. Once the tool is inserted into a tube to be repaired hydraulic pressure is applied and the piston is forced outward thereby puncturing the tube.

  • Patent number: 4597441
Abstract: In a method of recovering petroleum from underground formations penetrated by a production well, superheated steam and then hot hydrogen are injected by way of the well into a preheated formation zone next to the well. The hydrogen is injected under sufficient pressure to cause hydrogenation of the petroleum in the heated zone. The well is shut in and the hydrogen in the heated zone is allowed to "soak" for a period of time after which the pressure in the well is lowered and petroleum is recovered from the heated zone by way of the well. The cycle can be repeated a number of times.By way of another well spaced from the production well, fluid under pressure is injected into said formations to drive petroleum in said formations between the two wells to the production well for recovery. Hydrogenation of the petroleum occurs as it is driven through the heated zone in the presence of the hydrogen therein.

  • Patent number: 4544194
Abstract: A carrier configuration for two or more bottles such as beverage bottles includes an inner member having regions which receive each of the bottle necks and an outer member which extends about the grouping of bottles at their midsections. The inner member is sized to nest within the outer member and they may be punched simultaneously from a flat sheet of material such as polyethylene. Preferably, the adjacent inner edge of the outer member and the outer edge of the inner member are partially connected and scored by the punching operations such that they may be readily separated from one another as they are installed in the positions above described on a grouping of containers.

  • Patent number: 4529536
Abstract: Disclosed is a thixotropic flame inhibitor for a rocket propellant grain luding an organic thixotrope in amounts from about 5 parts to about 30 parts into HTPB liquid polymer in amounts from about 70 parts to about 95 parts by stirring at elevated temperatures. After cooling the mixture to room temperature, appropriate quantities of di- or polyfunctional isocyanates and cure catalysts are added to promote cure at room temperature. Fine particulate matter may also be added to increase viscosity. The resulting formulation is a room-temperature curable, thixotropic mixture which will not flow under its own weight when applied to wettable non-horizontal surfaces in appreciable thicknesses, and which, when cured, is suitable as an inhibitor for composite solid rocket propellants. Thixotropy may be controlled by the level of organic thixotrope in the formulation while viscosity may be adjusted by the level of particulate filler; these parameters determine the allowable thicknesses from one-coat applications.

  • Patent number: 4447974
Abstract: Means and method are provided for creating giant simulated soft drink bottles, with distinctive shapes more particularly the type having generally longitudinally extended ribs which serve as trade dress. The construction utilizes a series of side panels which are laid out and sewn edge to edge, subsequent to which chalk lines are marked onto the side panels, indicating where the furrows between the longitudinal ribs are to go, and gussets are sewn along each chalk line and centrally restrained with a strap or the like which runs longitudinally of the bottle, so that when the top and bottom portions are installed and the unit is inflated, the trade dress ribs and furrows are well defined in the outer surface of the bottle.
