  • Patent number: 10003699
Abstract: Approaches presented herein enable optimizing a ringtone on a mobile communication device so that it may be audible to a user among ambient music. Specifically, an incoming communication (e.g., phone call) or other event (e.g., incoming notification, alarm, etc.) that is associated with a ringtone is detected. Any ambient music is detected and identified. A waveform associated with the ringtone and a waveform associated with the ambient music are analyzed. Based on the analysis, the ringtone is initiated. For example, a peak of the ringtone waveform may be aligned with a trough of the ambient music waveform to determine a point to initiate the ringtone among the ambient music.

  • Publication number: 20180115042
Abstract: Embodiments herein describe a high-speed communication channel in a PCB that includes a dielectric waveguide sandwiched between two ground layers. The dielectric waveguide includes a core and a cladding where the material of the core has a higher dielectric constant than the material of the cladding. Thus, electromagnetic signals propagating in the core are internally reflected at the interface between the core and cladding such that the electromagnetic signals are primary contained in the core.

  • Publication number: 20180108971
Abstract: Embodiments herein describe a high-speed communication channel in a PCB that includes a dielectric waveguide coupled at respective ends to coaxial vias. The dielectric waveguide includes a core and a cladding where the material of the core has a higher dielectric constant than the material of the cladding. Thus, electromagnetic signals propagating in the core are internally reflected at the interface between the core and cladding such that the electromagnetic signals are primary contained in the core. The coaxial vias include a center conductor and an outer conductor (or shield) which extend through one or more layers of the PCB. One of the coaxial vias radiates electromagnetic signals into the dielectric waveguide at a first end of the core while the other coaxial via receives the radiated signals at a second end of the core.

  • Patent number: 9757684
Abstract: An improved process and for removing NOx from exhaust gases produced by combustion-based energy sources. Catalyst-free exhaust gas is directed into one or more ducts. The gas is cooled and then passes through the duct, wherein the gas flow rate and the electron beam pulse rate are configured to cause each successive volume of gas that flows past the window to be subjected to only a single electron beam pulse in the reaction chamber. A single short, intense electron beam is fired into the exhaust through a window in the reaction chamber as the exhaust flows past the window, with some of the electrons being reflected back into the gas by a reflective plate situated opposite the window. The deposited electron energy causes NOx from the exhaust to be converted into N2 and O2 which are output into the atmosphere with the thus-scrubbed exhaust.

  • Patent number: 9486008
Abstract: A system for trimming a lettuce head using a digital imaging system and cutting mechanism. The lettuce head is conveyed between a lower feed conveyor and an upper feed conveyor that is disposed a fixed distance over and substantially aligned with a lower feed conveyor. The digital imaging system is configured to capture an image of the lettuce head and determine a cutting profile using the image. The cutting mechanism is disposed over the lower feed conveyor and includes: a servo motor mechanically coupled to a drive shaft; an armature with a pivot end mounted to the drive shaft and a sweep end disposed a radial distance from the pivot end; a cutting nozzle, mounted to the sweep end of the armature, configured to trim the lettuce head; and servo-control circuitry configured to articulate the cutting nozzle through a cutting arc based on the cutting profile.

  • Patent number: 9478699
Abstract: A nanowire comprises a polar semiconductor material that is compositionally graded along the nanowire from a first end to a second end to define a polarization doping profile along the nanowire from the first end to the second end. The polar semiconductor material may comprise a group IH-nitride semiconductor, such as an alloy of GaN and AlN, or an alloy of GaN and InN. Such nanowires may be formed by nucleating the first ends on a substrate, growing the nanowires by depositing polar semiconductor material on the nucleated first ends on a selected growth face, and compositionally grading the nanowires during growth to impart the polarization doping. The direction of the compositional grading may be reversed during the growing of the nanowires to reverse the type of the imparted polarization doping. In some embodiments, the reversing forms n/p or p/n junctions in the nanowires.
