  • Patent number: 9013630
Abstract: A method for encoding a carrier signal in a video signal, the video signal having one or more frames, the frames each having a first field and a second field, the first field and the second field of each frame having a plurality of scan lines, each having a plurality of pixels with an intensity value indicating brightness, the method comprising selectively designating the plurality of scan lines of the first field of the one or more frames as up lines or down lines, calculating an optimum amount of adjustment to the pixels of the up lines and the down lines, and selectively increasing the intensity value of pixels of the up lines and decreasing the intensity value of pixels of the down lines by the optimum amount of adjustment thereby modulating the video signal with a carrier signal and creating a modulated video signal.

  • Patent number: 8972077
Abstract: A method for detecting a lane change by a moving vehicle is disclosed. In one embodiment, it is detected that a first heading of a moving vehicle has met a parameter defining a stable heading. It is then detected that a second heading of the moving vehicle has subsequently met a parameter defining an unstable heading. It is then detected that a third heading of the moving vehicle has subsequently met a parameter defining a stable heading within a pre-determined time parameter and that the third heading equals the first heading within a pre-defined margin. An indication is then generated that the moving vehicle has performed a lane change.

  • Patent number: 8907604
Abstract: An optimized pseudo-random period pattern can reduce audible noise in a system that includes an inverter circuit configured to provide power to an electric machine. A system can include a PWM optimization module (POM) comprising the PPP. A carrier period for a carrier signal used to provide PWM inverter drive signals can be selected in accordance with the PPP. The PPP can be expressed as an array of 200-400 elements, each element a period belonging to a finite set of 2 or more predetermined periods. A period can be selected by index from the array, and the index incremented to progress through the PPP, which can be repeated upon its completion. The PPP can be optimized to reduce audible noise while mitigating inverter losses. Modeling techniques can determine the number of array elements, the number of possible periods, and the period values that optimize the PPP.

  • Patent number: 8893947
Abstract: An apparatus for placement into an opening formed in a wall of a body lumen to deploy a closure element. The apparatus comprising a housing having a handle portion formed at a distal end, the handle portion configured to be engaged by a user when advancing the housing to deploy the closure element. A locator assembly and a carrier assembly are at least partially received in the housing. The locator assembly can have a distal end that contains notches or a shaped edge which are designed to help prevent the misfiring of the tines of the closure element. A triggering system cooperates with the locator assembly and is moveable toward the one or more expansion members of the locator assembly upon the locator control system being operated to expand the one or more expansion members.

  • Publication number: 20140252967
Abstract: A dimmable solid state lighting apparatus can include a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) segments including a first LED segment that can have a targeted spectral power distribution for light emitted from the apparatus that is different than spectral power distributions for other LED segments included in the plurality of LED segments. An LED segment selection circuit can be configured to selectively control current through the plurality of LED segments to shift the light emitted by the apparatus to the targeted spectral power distribution responsive to dimming input.

  • Publication number: 20140245440
Abstract: A method for software inspection analyzes a body of computer code to assess whether the body of computer code contains malware. Various embodiments extract the executable elements of the body of computer code and modify those elements using rules defining the format of instructions for the programming language in which the computer code was written, and using rules defined from the security specification of that programming language, to produce a model of the body of computer code. The method then analyzes the model using a model checking system, which determines whether any of the language rules have been violated, in which case the method flags the computer code as potentially including malware.

  • Publication number: 20140014277
Abstract: The wastewater evaporator provides for effluent evaporation in a septic system to eliminate need for a drain field. The evaporator tank contains a plurality of evaporator trays in a vertical array. Solids settle in the septic tank, and liquid effluent flows from the septic tank to the evaporator tank and cascades sequentially from the uppermost to the lowermost tray. The multiple trays increase the surface area of liquid contained therein, thereby greatly enhancing evaporation. An above-surface air pump and vent may be provided for air flow through the evaporator tank. An ultrasonic generator may be installed in each tray to increase the surface area of the effluent to enhance evaporation. An additional intermediate pump tank may be provided between the septic tank and the evaporator tank to control effluent flow and delivery to the evaporator tank. A sump pump in the pump tank periodically delivers effluent to the evaporator tank.

  • Patent number: 8601775
Abstract: A dunnage-free product-shipping assembly comprising a support member securable to the product in a substantially fixed position. A shipping container has an interior area sized to removably contain the support member. The shipping container has a base and sidewalls projecting from the base. The sidewalls restrict lateral movement of the support member relative to the base. A closure member is movable between an open position and a closed position. The closure member is out of engagement with the support member and the product when in the closed position. A retention flap is connected to one of the sidewalls and is movable between engaged and released positions. The retention flap, when in the engaged position, restricts movement of the support member and the product in a direction normal to the base. When the retention flap is in the released position, the support member and product can be moved normally relative to the base for removal from the shipping container.

  • Publication number: 20130318968
Abstract: A method and system for converting a feedstock using thermal plasma or other gassifier, into a feedwater or make up water energy transfer system. Feedstock is any organic material or fossil fuel. The energy transferred in the feedwater or make N up water is used in any Rankine or other steam process, or any process that requires heat. Heat is extracted from a gas product issued by a gassifier and is delivered to a power plant via its feedwater system or make up water system. Preferably, the gassifier is a plasma gassifier and the gas product is syngas that is combusted in an afterburner. A heated air flow and/or EGR flow is provided the afterburner at a variable flow rate that is responsive an operating characteristic of the afterburner.

  • Publication number: 20130325058
Abstract: A closure device for closing an opening in tissue is provided. The closure device includes an elongate member through which needles may be deployed. The closure device also includes a foot portion having one or more feet slidably mounted relative thereto. The feet are movable between a deployed position and a delivery position. The feet include cuffs removably mounted therein, with sutures connected between the cuffs. When the feet are in the deployed position and the needles are advanced, the needles securely engage the cuffs and draw the cuffs and suture through the lumen wall so that the opening in the lumen wall can be closed with the sutures.
