Abstract: A flow evacuation system for an aircraft engine including an engine nozzle that conveys the engine exhaust flow and an eductor receiving the engine exhaust flow and engine ventilation flow is disclosed. The engine nozzle has a final section in contact by its outer surface with the ventilation flow. The engine exhaust flow has a low swirl when the engine operates under design conditions and a high swirl when the engine operates out of design conditions. The engine nozzle includes a plurality of local flow conditioners placed in its inner surface in the final section for reducing the swirl of the engine exhaust flow at the exit of the engine nozzle.

Abstract: An electronic document is distributed for use as a form wherein users can fill in characters in selected fields. The electronic document contains an embedded program for printing a bar code that represents the characters entered in the fields. The embedded program generates commands for making a printer print basic geometrical elements (such as polygons) that form configurations that represent the characters (or compactions of characters etc.). Thus on one hand bar codes can be generated in the distributed document after the user has entered data and on the other hand the author of the document retains full control over how the entered characters will be converted into a bar code. Preferably, the embedded program has the capability to adapt the configuration of geometrical elements that is used to represent the characters dependent on factors other than the data values that can be decoded from the bar code.

Abstract: A hierarchical display system is described herein that provides an indication of a node's hierarchical position in a tree of nodes regardless of a user's present viewing position within a tree control or similar user interface control. Rather than displaying only the currently visible nodes closest to a particular active node, the system may display one or more parent/ancestor nodes in place of the farthest visible nodes. This allows the user to visually recognize a hierarchical path of the active node without scrolling to find the parent or other ancestor nodes. As the user scrolls, the system updates the display to keep one or more ancestor nodes displayed in addition to the nodes coming into view due to the scrolling. Thus, the hierarchical display system provides a more informative and less confusing control for viewing large amounts of hierarchically complex data.

In various embodiments of the invention, a suture can be made up of an inner core and a coating that upon a stimuli increases the protrusion of the retainers away from the suture core thereby ensuring that the suture is held securely in place, preventing wound separation and dehiscence.

Abstract: The present invention presents a non-volatile memory system that adapts its performance to one or more system related situation. If a situation occurs where the memory will require more than the allotted time for completing an operation, the memory can switch from its normal operating mode to a high performance mode in order to complete the operation quickly enough. Conversely, if a situation arises where reliability could be an issue (such as partial page programming), the controller could switch to a high reliability mode. In either case, once the trigging system situation has returned to normal, the memory reverts to the normal operation. The detection of such situations can be used both for programming and data relocation operations. An exemplary embodiment is based on firmware programmable performance.
