The device comprises an input part for receiving an image, a block classification part for dividing the received image into blocks, and classifying the divided blocks into character blocks and background blocks, an edge enhancement part for enhancing edges of a character block using relations between neighboring pixels in the character block classified by the block classification part, and generating a threshold for distinguishing character pixels and background pixels of the character block, and a binarization part for binarizing pixels of character blocks output from the edge enhancement part into a first brightness value for character pixels and a second brightness value for background pixels by comparing the pixels of the character blocks with the threshold, and binarizing pixels of background blocks output from the block classification part into the second brightness value.

Abstract: A device for extending a character region in an image comprising an input part for receiving an input image, a block classification part for classifying the input image into character blocks and background blocks, and converting pixels in the character blocks into pixels having a first brightness value and pixels in the background blocks into pixels having a second brightness value, and a position search part for searching for left, right, top and bottom positions of a character region by horizontally and vertically scanning the block-classified image, and determining a position of the character region. The device for extending a character region in an image further comprises a region of contents (ROC) extraction part for extracting an image in the determined position of the character region from the input image, and an ROC extension part for extending the extracted image of the character region to a size of the input image.

Abstract: Disclosed is a device and method for recognizing characters in an image. An input part receives the image. A blurring decision part classifies the received image into character blocks and background blocks, calculates an average energy ratio of the character blocks, and compares the average energy ratio with a predetermined threshold to determine whether the received image is blurred. If the received image is not blurred, an image binarization part classifies the received image into character blocks and background blocks, compares pixels in the character blocks with a pixel threshold, binarizes the pixels in the character blocks into a brightness value for a character pixel and a brightness value for a background pixel based on the comparison, and binarizes pixels in the background blocks into the brightness value for a background pixel. A character recognition part recognizes characters in the binarized image.

Abstract: A camera captures an object's image and generates image data. An image processor processes the image data generated by the camera on the basis of a predetermined display standard. A user data generator generates user data according to a display mode. A display unit displays the image data on a first display area and displays the user data on a second display area. A controller controls transmission paths such that the image data from the image processor is transmitted to the first display area of the display unit in a first display time for a frame, and the user data is transmitted to the second display area in a second display time, at each frame when an operating mode is an image capture mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a moving picture mail server to receive moving picture mail from a first mobile terminal and transmit the received moving picture mail to the second mobile terminal. A support codec of the first mobile terminal serving as a transmitting side is confirmed. A support codec of the second mobile terminal serving as a receiving side is confirmed. It is determined whether or not the support codecs of the first and second mobile terminals are compatible. If the support codecs of the first and second mobile terminals are compatible, the moving picture mail received from the first mobile terminal is transmitted to the second mobile terminal. On the other hand, if the support codecs of the first and second mobile terminals are incompatible, the moving picture mail received from the first mobile terminal is transcoded on the basis of the support codec of the second mobile terminal. The transcoded moving picture mail is transmitted to the second mobile terminal.

Abstract: A device and method for correcting a skew of an object in an image. The device and method comprises an input part for receiving an image; a binarization part for binarizing pixels of the image into pixels having brightness values for character pixels and background pixels; a candidate stripe generation part for generating candidate stripes by performing dilation on character regions of the binarized image. The device and method further comprises a stripe classification part for classifying candidate stripes having a predetermined eccentricity and blob size among the candidate stripes, as valid stripes; a skew angle decision part for calculating direction angles of the classified stripes, and determining a direction angle having the largest count value as a skew angle; and a skew correction part for correcting a skew of an image by rotating the mage by the skew angle.

Abstract: A method for generating a combined signal in a mobile terminal equipped with a camera that captures image signals. A captured image signal is coded into a still picture signal based upon a frame size. A received audio signal is coded. An image header containing image pattern information and frame size information is inserted into the still picture signal based upon the frame size. The still picture signal based upon the frame size into which the image header is inserted is combined with the coded audio signal. While the above-described operations are repeated, consecutive still picture signals based upon the frame size are combined with corresponding audio signals. When a recording operation is completed, a combined signal representative of a result of the combining is stored in a moving picture file.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a moving picture mail server to transmit moving picture mail to a mobile terminal. When the moving picture mail has arrived, the moving picture mail server notifies the mobile terminal that the moving picture mail has arrived. When the mobile terminal requests that the moving picture mail be transmitted, the moving picture mail is transmitted at a preset transmission rate. Buffering information of the moving picture mail fed from the mobile terminal is checked, and a new transmission rate is set according to a change of the buffering information. The moving picture mail is edited according to the newly set transmission rate, and a transmission operation is performed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for enabling a mobile terminal equipped with a camera to store document information. An image of a document picked up by the camera is displayed. In response to a document “RECOGNIZE” key input, a character image is recognized from the displayed document image and the character image is converted into character data. The character data is displayed on the first display area, and SAVE items are displayed on the second display area. A SAVE item is selected from the displayed SAVE items and character data associated with the selected SAVE item is selected, such that the selected SAVE item and the character data associated with the selected SAVE item can be displayed on the third display area. When a “CORRECT” key is input, candidate characters associated with an erroneously recognized character are displayed on the third display area.

The mobile terminal generates UI data. In response to the synchronous signal from the camera, a selector divides a frame data time into a first time and a second time. A display unit displays the image data and UI data output from the selector on corresponding display areas.

The image data output control apparatus comprises first and second memories each for buffering image data of one screen, a host processor for selecting the first and second memories alternately as a display buffer for output of image data of a current screen and a screen buffer for storage of image data of a subsequent new screen, writing the image data of the subsequent screen into the screen buffer to construct the subsequent screen, and outputting the image data of the current screen stored in the display buffer. An output terminal outputs image data from any one of the first and second memories as image data for a screen to be displayed through a display unit. An access selector connects any one of the first and second memories, selected as the screen buffer by the host processor, to the host processor.
