    Abstract: A distance-measuring device includes a light-emitting/sensing controlling circuit, a light-emitting component, a light-sensing group, a background-calculating circuit, a frequency-adjusting circuit, and a distance-calculating circuit. The light-emitting component emits a detecting light to a measured object. The light-emitting/sensing controlling circuit controls the light-sensing group receiving and accumulating the energy of a reflective light generated by the measured object reflecting the detecting light, so that the distance-calculating circuit can calculate a measured distance between the measured object and the distance-measuring device according the accumulated energy of the light-sensing group. In addition, the distance-measuring device calculates the energy accumulated by the light-sensing group sensing the background light per unit time, by means of the background-calculating circuit.

Several hardware implementations for the serial interface, including a serial peripheral interface and a universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter interface, are disclosed according to certain embodiments of the invention. Moreover, another embodiment comprises a bypass mechanism which bypasses signals to other components because under certain circumstances it is reasonable to bypass incoming data signals directly from one device to another.

    Abstract: A distance-measuring device is utilized for measuring a measured distance between a measured object and the distance-measuring device. The distance-measuring device reduces the effect of a background light and a flicking light by removing the part corresponding to the background light and the flicking light from light-sensed signals generated by an image sensor of the distance-measuring device. In addition, the distance-measuring device calculates a calibrating parameter for calibrating an assemble-error angle of the distance-measuring device, according to an imaging location of a reflective light obtained by measuring a calibrating object with a predetermined distance. In this way, the distance-measuring device can correctly calculate out the measured distance.

    Abstract: In a variable size sensing system and a method for redefining the size of a sensing area thereof, the sensing system includes four elements, a mark and two image sensing devices. The four elements are consecutively connected and thereby forming a frame. Two of the four elements have variable lengths so as to adjust the size of the frame. The inner edge of the frame defines a sensing area of a parallelogram shape. The sensing system has a first and a second working mode. The sensing area has a first size and a second size when the sensing system is in the first working mode and the second working mode respectively, wherein the first size is predetermined and smaller than the second size. The mark is used to mark a fixed length. When the sensing system is changed from the first working mode to the second working mode, the mark sensed by the image sensing devices can be utilized to redefine the size of the sensing area in the sensing system.
