  • Patent number: 5734334
Abstract: An electronic crossbar switch employs a switch array for selectively routing digital and analog signals between its terminals. A separate port for each terminal provides a path for digital and analog signals flowing in and out of the switch. Each port can be configured to operate with or without tristate buffering under control of a tristate control signal, to optionally latch input or output signals in response to clock and clock enable signals, and to buffer signals passing in or out of the switch terminal with or without an input direction control signal. A set of control inputs are provided in common to all ports, allowing an external host to transmit control signals in parallel to each port. Each port may be programmed to select any of its control inputs as its tristate, clock enable, clocking or direction control signal.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a photo-induced DNA-cleaving agent composition comprises N-aryl-N-(alkyl or arylalkyl)hydroxylamine having the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, phenoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxycarbonyl, halogen or halo(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl)wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxycarbonyl, halogen or halo(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl); R.sub.2 is hydrogen; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or phenyl; R.sub.4 is hydrogen, phenyl, hydroxylphenyl, methoxyphenyl, dimethoxyphenyl, dimethylaminophenyl or naphthyl. The present N-aryl-N-(alkyl or arylalkyl)hydroxylamine is stable in dark, but it can react with O.sub.2 to form HO.multidot. radicals under irradiation of UV light for a period of 2-3 hours. The HO.multidot. radicals then react with DNA to accomplish cleavage of DNA.

  • Patent number: 5731236
Abstract: A semiconductor fabrication process, allowing integration of MOSFET devices, and capacitor structures, on a single semiconductor chip, has been developed. The process integration features the use of a MOSFET device, fabricated using a self-aligned contact structure, allowing a reduction in the source and drain area needed for contact. Silicon nitride spacers, used on the sides of the polysilicon gate electrode, protect the polysilicon gate structure, during the opening of a self-aligned contact hole. A self-aligned contact opening, to a source and drain region of a MOSFET device, as well as a capacitor contact opening, to a capacitor structure, are formed using wet-dry etching combinations. These etching combinations result in openings exhibiting sloped profiles, allowing for the attainment of reliable metal coverage, even with the use of sputtered metal depositions.

  • Patent number: 5729042
Abstract: A novel raised polycide fusible link structure is described. This structure enables a highly reliable laser-cutting process to be used in which the fuse can be easily and totally severed over a wide range of laser energy levels. The primary feature of the structure is that the fusible link is located on a pedestal that raises it above the surface of the main body of the integrated circuit, thereby providing a measure of thermal isolation for the fuse when it is irradiated by the laser. An efficient process for manufacturing the structure is also described.

  • Patent number: 5725407
Abstract: A process is described for the manufacture of a luminescent screen that eliminates image distorting or crosstalk effects resulting from secondary and back-scattered electrons that end up in adjoining sub-pixels. An unusually thick (ca. 70 microns) black matrix is first formed on the substrate surface and is given a tapered cross-sectional shape such that it is smaller at its top surface than at the substrate surface. Said tapered profile may be achieved through a screen-on process or by an overetching process. This is followed by the deposition of a transparent conductive layer, such as ITO, onto which the various layers of different phosphors that make up the sub-pixels of the display are deposited by means of electrophoresis.

  • Patent number: 5725706
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing a smooth and continuous pressure bonded layer of a material on a base substrate through the driving force of a pulsed laser. The method comprises the steps of selecting a laser absorptive material. Then applying thereto a thin layer of the material for pressure bonding to the base substrate. Next, placing the base substrate and the thin layer of material on the laser absorptive material in a vacuum, then placing the base substrate in close proximity to the thin layer of material. Finally, directing pulsed laser energy toward the laser absorptive material and the layer to be pressure bonded, whereby the laser energy is absorbed by the laser absorptive material causing heating and vaporization thereof to a controlled depth of the laser absorptive material, leaving remaining portions of the laser absorptive material unvaporized after the vaporization to act as a support for the material to be bonded.

  • Patent number: 5723052
Abstract: Described are methods for making, and resultant structures of, a field emission display with soft luminescence and a comfortable image for a viewer of the display. The field emission display is formed with a baseplate and an opposing face plate. Field emission microtips are formed in openings in a conductive and insulating layer on the baseplate. An anode is formed on either the faceplate, or on the conductive layer surrounding each opening. Phosphorescent material is formed over the anode. A blocking layer is formed between the phosphor and the faceplate, such that during operation of the display direct light emission from the phosphor is blocked, resulting in indirect phosphorescence and a more comfortable display image. An optional reflective layer may be added over the conductive layer to increase phosphorescence.

  • Patent number: 5722162
Abstract: An interconnecting post for mounting a microelectronic device such as an integral circuit chip is fabricated with generally uniform cross-section, by forming a first layer of positive photoresist on a substrate, soft-baking that first layer and exposing it for a short time with a wide-apertured mask or simply a UV blank flood exposure. Without developing the first layer, a second layer of positive resist is then applied over the first layer, soft-baked, and then exposed with a narrow-apertured mask. During the soft-baking of the second layer, some of its activator in the photoresist compound diffuses into the exposed portion of the first layer and modifies its solubility in such a way that, when the layers are subsequently developed, the developer partially undercuts the unexposed portion of the first layer to form in the photoresist an opening of generally uniform cross-section. This opening can then be filled by plating to produce a strong, integral interconnect post.

  • Patent number: 5720640
Abstract: This invention provides a method of fabrication and structure for spacers between the anode substrate and the cathode substrate of a field emission display. The spacers have a high aspect ratio and will be invisible to the human eye in the display image. An adhesive dielectric paste of glass frit in a binder is formed in cylindrical holes in a photoresist layer. Glass spacer spheres are placed on each column of dielectric paste. When fired the glass frit coalesces into a solid glass rod and bonds the glass spacer sphere to one end of the solid glass rod and the anode substrate to the other end of the solid glass rod. The firing also burns away the photoresist layer. The dark area in the image due to the spacers is less than 50 micrometers which will be invisible to the human eye.

  • Patent number: 5717000
Abstract: This invention relates to a polymer foam prepared by dispersing an organophilic multi-layered material into a melt comprising an olefinic or styrenic polymer having polar functionality so that at least a portion of the polymer intercalates between layers of the particles; and expanding the polymer with a blowing agent under such condition to form the polymer foam. The organophilic multi-layered material can also be dispersed into an olefinic or styrenic monomer, which can then be polymerized to form a polymer melt prior to, or along with the foaming step.
