  • Publication number: 20050060112
Abstract: The invention refers to a method of resonance spectroscopy for the analysis of statistical properties of samples, comprising the following steps: a) recording of a complex resonance frequency spectrum of each sample by means of phase sensitive quadrature detection; b) numerical differentiation of the recorded complex resonance frequency spectra versus frequency; c) determination of the absolute value of each differentiated complex resonance frequency spectrum (=fingerprint); d) allocation of each fingerprint to a point of a multidimensional point set; and e) performing a pattern analysis of the generated points for characterizing the statistical properties of the samples. The inventive method tolerates unintended variances of measurement in the recorded resonance. frequency spectra, in particular caused by phase errors, and allows reliable automated spectral analysis.

  • Patent number: 6856570
Abstract: A method of writing data bits to a memory array. In one method embodiment, a first input is received. This causes an application of high power, via a sense line, to an addressed bit in the memory array and causes a write operation to be applied to the addressed bit. A second input is received. This causes an application of low power, via said sense line, to the addressed bit and causes a read operation on the addressed bit. The sense line is used to read and write the addressed bit.

  • Publication number: 20030235227
Abstract: A transmit optical subassembly (TOSA) includes a spot-size-converted (SSC) semiconductor laser coupled to an optical fiber without a lens or isolator. The spot-size-converted semiconductor laser includes an active region and an expander region that expands the spot size of the laser while maintaining efficient active laser performance. The SSC laser is coupled to a submount and passively aligned to an optical fiber positioned within a V-shaped groove formed within the submount. The SSC laser includes a narrow far field advantageous for providing a high coupling efficiency and high quality data transmission. The SSC laser is resistant to back reflection and produces a 1.3 or 1.55 micron optical wavelength and a data rate ranging from 1 to 10 Gbps. The TOSA provides high coupled power due to narrow far field, with potential extra reflection resistance due to absorption and mode transfer losses in coupling reflections through the expander back into the active region.

  • Patent number: 6550439
Abstract: A suction tube with a switching element for longitudinal adjustment of different tube sections (16), particularly a suction tube having a drum switch (12). The invention provides for sealing strips (29) or sealing rings (17) which are supported inside the suction tube casing (14). This results in a relative movement between the drum switch (12) and the sealing elements fixed to the casing. The positioning of the sealing elements in the suction tube casing (14) is advantageous for assembly and allows for better compensation of tolerances in the sealing gap between the drum switch (12) and the suction tube casing (14).

  • Patent number: 6471755
Abstract: A gas conducting system, particularly a compressed air system for a motor vehicle, which includes a filter containing a desiccant for removing moisture from a gas passed therethrough. The housing structure of the filter is provided with a seal with a weakened area 18, which specifically causes any overpressure to be reduced through failure of the weakened area if the pressure inside exceeds a permissible maximum. This process can be repeated multiple times until the seal with the weakened area 18 must be replaced due to aging. The weakened area can be used as a substitute for a pressure relief valve or as supplemental protection in case the pressure control valve fails, e.g., due to ice. This can prevent, for instance, bursting of the filter housing which could present a safety risk.

  • Patent number: 6371069
Abstract: An air intake device (10) especially adapted for use with an internal combustion engine, which achieves longer air intake tubes using a very simple geometry and which directly guides aspirated air without sharp deflections. The air intake device comprises a manifold (11), intake tubes (12), and an adjusting unit (13). The manifold (11) and the adjusting unit (13) form air intake channels (14), each leading into an air intake tube. The air intake channels (14) are arranged in a “cloverleaf” about the adjusting unit (13). To achieve an optimum charging of the cylinders of an internal combustion engine in all speed ranges, the adjusting unit (13) is steplessly or continuously adjustable. To establish preferred settings, rotary or sliding sleeves with interruptions can be integrated into the air intake device.

  • Patent number: 6312488
Abstract: An apparatus for separating liquids, in particular water, from gasses, in particular for separating entrained water from the intake air of an internal combustion engine. This is achieved by appropriately configuring a selected connection site in the intake section which precedes the air filter of the internal combustion engine. This has the advantage of requiring no parts in addition to the air conduit pieces already present. Separated water may be discharged, for example, through an outlet valve or small opening.
