  • Patent number: 9770176
Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable device (10) for determining a heart rate of a person (20), comprising a heart rate measurement unit, a motion measurement unit for measuring the motion of a body part (12), and a processing unit. The processing unit is adapted to measure a signal quality of the heart rate signal and accordingly switch between two calculation modes: If the signal quality is above a predefined threshold, the heart rate is calculated based on the heart rate signal. If the signal quality is so poor that a reliable calculation of the heart rate is technically not possible anymore based on the heart rate signal, the processing unit switches to its second calculation mode, in which the heart rate is estimated based on the motion signal by estimating a heart rate constant, which depends on the frequency of the motion signal, and defining an exponential development of the heart rate, starting at the last reliably measured heart rate and finishing at the estimated heart rate constant.

  • Publication number: 20170071547
Abstract: A data processing device is disclosed for extracting a desired vital signal containing a physiological information component from sensor data that includes time-dependent first sensor data comprising the physiological information component and at least one motion artifact component, and that includes time-dependent second sensor data that is indicative of a position, a velocity or an acceleration of the sensed region as a function of time. A decomposition unit decomposes the second sensor data into at least two components of decomposed sensor data and, based on the decomposed second sensor data, provides at least two different sets of motion reference data in at least two different motion reference data channels. An artifact removal unit determines the vital signal formed from a linear combination of the first sensor data and the motion reference data of at least one two of the motion reference data channels.

  • Patent number: 9268317
Abstract: A system and method for coordinating advanced process control and real-time optimization of a manufacturing process are provided. The system and method receive process data and economic data corresponding to the manufacturing process to be controlled and optimized. Based on the process data, the economic data and a nonlinear steady-state model of the process, an economic objective function is calculated by a real-time optimization module. A reduced-order non-linear approximation of the economic objective function is thereafter calculated by the real-time optimization module and transmitted to an advanced process control module. The advanced process control module utilizes the reduced-order non-linear approximation of the economic objective function to control the manufacturing process towards the constrained economic optimum.

  • Publication number: 20140362968
Abstract: A system for removing the residual power of a pressurised water nuclear reactor, includes a reserve of water, a steam generator, wherein the primary water heated by the core either circulates in a forced manner during power operation, or circulates naturally when the primary pump is stopped, and a condenser housed in the containment vessel. The condenser includes a recovery unit for recovering the condensed water and a condenser link to ensure the circulation of water in a closed circuit between the reserve and the condenser. The system further includes a device for circulating the secondary water between the steam generator and the condenser, the device being activated without an external supply of electrical energy, when an operating parameter characteristic of excessive heating of the primary water reaches a certain threshold, such that the primary water heated by the core and circulating in the steam generator vaporises the secondary water.

  • Patent number: 8498423
Abstract: A method is provided which is suitable to cope with non-linear echo paths during acoustic echo cancellation in speakerphones. Non-linear paths occur particularly in hands-free operation of, e.g., a mobile phone, due to driving the amplifier and loudspeaker in the non-linear range. The idea is to combine the commonly known one microphone approach of linear acoustic echo cancellation using an adaptive filter and a post-processor together with a multiple microphone approach using beam forming which separately removes the non-linear part of the echo.
