  • Patent number: 9974001
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in an ad hoc network, comprising: a node transmitting an extended allowable hold time value to a further node; the node changing its transmission behavior such that the further node stops receiving transmission from the node for an extended period, for example by pausing transmission at least in the direction of the further node; and the further node treating the link to the node as intact during the extended allowable hold time. The transmitting of the extended allowable hold time value may be performed earlier than a next routine transmission of routine allowable hold time value would have been sent. The method may further comprise the node being instructed to maintain topology information for an extended time.

  • Patent number: 9964942
Abstract: Embodiments of a system and a method for continuously measuring cementitious board during the continuous manufacture thereof can be used in connection with the manufacture of various cementitious products, including gypsum wallboard, for example. Embodiments of a system and a method for continuously measuring cementitious board during its continuous manufacture can be used online in a continuous manufacturing process to effectively determine the degree to which cementitious slurry has set (e.g., expressed as percent hydration) at a predetermined location, such as, near a cutting station, for example. A height measuring system can be used to determine the relative amount the cementitious board sags as it passes over an unsupported span disposed between the forming station and the cutting station and to correlate the measured sag distance with a value of percent hydration of the cementitious slurry of that particular portion of the cementitious board.

  • Publication number: 20180115292
Abstract: An audio peak limiter apparatus which calculates a smoothed sequence of gains for application to a sequence of blocks of samples of an audio signal. The apparatus sometimes calculates a candidate gain, to replace a too-large smoothed gain, such that applying the candidate gain would produce no scaled sample whose magnitude exceeds a predetermined limit. The apparatus sometimes calculates and stores a final gain to replace the too-large smoothed gain (where the final gain can be obtained e.g. by dividing the to-be-replaced smoothed gain by a prior smoothed gain and multiplying the result by the corresponding prior final gain), if it is determined that the candidate gain is not less than the immediately previous final gain.

  • Patent number: 9934555
Abstract: Image filter values can be obtained by applying a high-frequency or edge-detection image filter to an image to extract a level of image detail. The image can be divided into blocks of a predetermined size and the image filter values of the pixels in a block can be used to obtain a density value associated with the level of image detail for the block. For blocks where the density value exceeds a threshold amount, a degree of blur may be applied based on the density value. Thus, the image can be rendered so that only some of the blocks of the image are blurred while other blocks do not have blur applied.

  • Publication number: 20180085268
Abstract: A way of safely lifting or lowering a person of limited physical strength or coordination, using a system of bladders an outer membrane and a supply of product, gas, liquid or otherwise. By using a small portable lifting or lowering device, comprising of a series of bladders with fail safes encased in an outer membrane, peace of mind and mobility can be given to people of limited physical strength. The fear of falling and not being rescued can cause people to move into a different assisted living home. With this system of lifting, the fear of falling would be greatly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20180056419
Abstract: Electrodes for and methods of electrical discharge machining are provided. For example, a method for forming a feature in a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component comprises repeatedly advancing an electrode into and retracting the electrode from the CMC component until a desired depth is reached, where the electrode has a head end, a tip end, and a shaft extending from the head end to the tip end. The shaft has a first side and a second side each recessed inward such that the head end and the tip end are wider than the shaft. A method for forming a feature in a CMC component also may include feeding a dielectric fluid into the feature utilizing the recessed sides. In some embodiments, electrodes may include a shaft extending from a head end to a tip end and a central plane, where the shaft is recessed widthwise toward the central plane.

  • Publication number: 20180052930
Abstract: System, method, and apparatus for providing and using a centralized Link Metadata System to identify if navigational links are pop-out links, is provided. The present invention offers a Link Metadata System, available on the Internet, of metadata associated with any given, specific Internet domain and URL or URI path combination. Software browsing user agents on remote window servers are then configured with the ability to request metadata from the Link Metadata System indicating that a link is a pop-out link. Upon receiving metadata, the user agent determines whether to perform navigation as normal or perform the pop-out link functionality of reloading the remote client web browser's top level container with the content provided at the link's destination URL or URI.

  • Patent number: 9874516
Abstract: Wide-angled incoherent millimeter or sub-millimeter electromagnetic waves from an extended active source are used to probe substrates and their protective coatings or outer layers, such as paint or thermal insulation. The incoherent waves provide dispersion and angular variation with respect to angular incidence to the substrate. Illumination of the substrate permits differentiation between un-corroded and corroded sections of the sample because reflectivity, emissivity and/or transmissivity from the substrate or protective coating various according to its homogeneousness. A detector/camera is arranged to identify and resolve differences in detected power within an observed frequency range of the area under test, with this contrast in power being relative to either adjacent areas or anticipated reference levels.

  • Publication number: 20170331642
Abstract: A method for transmitting messages between a first networked device and a second networked device via a local network provided by a local network access point is disclosed. The method involves on the first networked device, determining whether the second networked device meets local communications criteria by determining at least one of whether the second networked device is accessible via the local network at a local network address, and whether the second networked device has registered for communications via local networks. The method also involves, in response to a determination that the second networked device meets the local communications criteria, transmitting the message via the local network access point to the local network address associated with the second networked device.

  • Patent number: 9793820
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a direct current power supply. An apparatus comprises a transformer and a rectifier. The transformer is figured to output a plurality of phase-shifted alternating currents in response to receiving a plurality of alternating currents. The plurality of alternating currents and the plurality of phase-shifted alternating currents form a plurality of input alternating currents that are offset relative to each other by one-twelfth of a cycle in phase. The rectifier is configured to form a direct current power supply having a common mode voltage reduced to zero within selected tolerances in response to receiving the plurality of input alternating currents.
