  • Publication number: 20170026898
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in an ad hoc network, comprising: a node transmitting an extended allowable hold time value to a further node; the node changing its transmission behavior such that the further node stops receiving transmission from the node for an extended period, for example by pausing transmission at least in the direction of the further node; and the further node treating the link to the node as intact during the extended allowable hold time. The transmitting of the extended allowable hold time value may be performed earlier than a next routine transmission of routine allowable hold time value would have been sent. The method may further comprise the node being instructed to maintain topology information for an extended time.

  • Publication number: 20160370348
Abstract: A diffusion chamber for determining different parameters of an aqueous substance includes a vertical central cylinder having a sample chamber for receiving a substance sample and a needle-shaped pH-measuring sensor having a measuring tip which is brought into contact with the substance sample. A spectrophotometer having glass-fibre optics is configured to penetrate the substance sample. A gas supply into the sample chamber is configured to provide a variable gas exposure of the substance sample when determining parameters. A needle of the pH-measuring sensor is inserted into an obliquely extending groove of a slid-in sample slide. A sealing ring on the sample slide is pressed against the central cylinder by means of an inserted spacer ring, the sample chamber is tightly sealed with respect to gases from the surroundings of the diffusion chamber, and a minimum distance is maintained between the lower collimating lens and the substance sample.

  • Patent number: 9518918
Abstract: Incoherent millimeter wave, sub-millimeter wave and terahertz test signals are used to probe metal substrates that are covered by a protective coating or outer layer, such as paint or thermal insulation, obscuring direct assessment of the substrate. The incoherent test signals, which may be from a naturally occurring passive source (such as the sky) and/or from an active noise source, provide signal dispersion and angular variation of the test signals with respect to angular incidence to the substrate. Illumination of the substrate permits differentiation between un-corroded and corroded sections of the sample because reflectivity (and emissivity) from a metal-based substrate is heavily dependent on the surface resistivity which in turn is dependent on the corroded state.

  • Publication number: 20160344628
Abstract: Various implementations disclosed herein include apparatuses, systems, and methods for providing virtual/virtualized network functions. In some implementations, a method includes determining that a first virtual router is configured to operate as a backup router for a second virtual router. The first virtual router and the second virtual router may reside within a public cloud. The method also includes determining, by the first virtual router, whether the second virtual router is able to route packets. The method further includes updating, by the first virtual router, a routing table to indicate that the first virtual router should be used to route packets when the second virtual router is unable to route packets.

  • Patent number: 9495301
Abstract: In one embodiment, a computing system includes a cache having one or more memories, a cache journal operable to store data associated with one or more portions of the cache, and a configuration manager operable to access the cache and the cache journal. The configuration manager is operable to determine whether the cache journal includes data associated with a first portion of the cache, and to create, in the cache journal, data associated with the first portion of the cache if the cache journal does not yet comprise data associated with the first portion of the cache. The configuration manager is also operable to determine whether the first portion of the cache is valid for use, and to communicate with a memory manager associated with the first portion of the cache regarding whether the first portion of the cache is valid for use.

  • Publication number: 20160301344
Abstract: At least one embodiment relates to a cogeneration system configured to be coupled to an electrical input of a building and configured to be coupled to a heating or cooling system of a building. The cogeneration system can comprise a generator configured to generate electrical energy. There can be also a fluid output and a fluid input that passes through the generator and configured to absorb heat from the generator. There can also be an electrical output coupled to the electrical input of the building wherein when the generator is operational, the engine creates both heat and electricity. There can also be a processor in communication with the generator, wherein the processor controls when the generator turns on and off based upon the amount of heat or cooling needed, the cost of fuel and the existing electrical rates. These costs can be obtained using communication with real time rates over the internet.
