  • Publication number: 20020162306
Abstract: A riding stirrup (10) includes a hanger rod (11) for connecting the stirrup to a saddle, and a stirrup loop (12) connected to the hanger rod. The stirrup loop (12) defines a stirrup opening (14) through which a rider may extend their foot when the rider is sitting in the saddle. The stirrup loop (12) also includes an elongated base support tread (17) positioned generally at the bottom of the loop. The base support tread (17) extends at a slant with respect to a stirrup centerline (CL) which extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the hanger rod (11), through a midpoint of the rod, and through the base support tread. This slant places the distance between an outer tread section (21) and the hanger rod (11) greater than the distance between an inner tread section (20) and the hanger rod.

  • Patent number: 6442003
Abstract: A linear actuator for a removable cartridge magnetic disk drive includes a center guide rail on which the actuator carriage travels. Bushings and the motor coil are spaced symmetrically with respect to the heads so that the center of mass, center of friction, center of force, and center of stiffness of the carriage are all aligned along the center rail. An outrigger travels on another rail to prevent rotation of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 6434699
Abstract: An encryption chip is programmable to process a variety of secret key and public key encryption algorithms. The chip includes a pipeline of processing elements, each of which can process a round within a secret key algorithm. Data is transferred between the processing elements through dual port memories. A central processing unit allows for processing of very wide data words from global memory in single cycle operations. An adder circuit is simplified by using plural relatively small adder circuits with sums and carries looped back in plural cycles. Multiplier circuitry can be shared between the processing elements and the central processor by adapting the smaller processing element multipliers for concatenation as a very wide central processor multiplier.

  • Publication number: 20010040761
Abstract: An improved disk drive includes an improved operating system, an improved eject system, an improved head retract system and an improved motor loading system. In a preferred embodiment of the operating system it includes a motor, an eject crank, a head crank and an actuator. The output of the motor can be selectively controlled by the actuator to power either the eject crank or the head crank. Powering the head crank, causes the disk drive heads to move, and powering the eject crank causes a disk cartridge to be ejected from the disk drive. The motor loading system may have a disk drive motor having a threaded exterior and a member extending from the exterior to interface with the eject system. Additionally, this motor loading system may include an aperture in the chassis of the disk drive that has a threaded ring running around the circumference of the aperture and a spring extending from the threaded ring.

  • Patent number: 6252740
Abstract: A cartridge for a magnetic disk drive has a rigid shell and a flexible door which covers an opening through which read/write heads engage the recording medium. The flexible door is guided outside of the shell to an open position as the cartridge is inserted into the drive. A projection on a flexible arm in the drive catches a hole in the flexible door to open it as the cartridge is inserted into the drive. The door along the outside of the cartridge conserves space so that the recording medium can be large for a given form factor drive.

  • Patent number: 6185986
Abstract: A method of detecting a break in a transfer line transporting a fluid product between a first vessel and a second vessel includes sensing a current pressure of fluid product associated with the transfer line. A highest sensed pressure of the fluid product is continually tracked, and a trip pressure is defined. The trip pressure increases to new multiple value(s) at any or many of a possible multiple number of times when the highest sensed pressure increases. The method further includes detecting when the current sensed pressure drops below the trip pressure to detect a break in the transfer line, via use of a pressure sensor in or in fluid communication with the transfer line. A method of automatically shutting off transfer of fluid product between a first vessel and a second vessel includes a step for shutting off the transfer of fluid product between the first vessel and the second vessel.

  • Patent number: 6141188
Abstract: An actuator for a direct access storage device has a secondary actuator with discrete or distributed masses such that a mechanical nodal point is created. The nodal point does not move with respect to the primary actuator. The secondary actuator is attached to the primary actuator at a nodal point. No net forces are coupled to the primary actuator when the secondary actuator is activated in a vibratory movement by a piezo-electric element.

  • Patent number: 6137651
Abstract: Disclosed is a disk drive having a linear actuator for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium. The heads are mounted on a carriage assembly along with a voice coil motor for driving the carriage assembly into and out of engagement of the heads with the medium. The carriage assembly slides linearly on a central guide track. A flexure is provided for the central guide track for linear movement by the carriage assembly so that initial linear movement of the carriage assembly is by flexing the flexure and further, larger linear movement of the carriage assembly is by sliding along the guide track. In one form of the invention the central guide track is suspended at the front end by a flexure and at the rear end by a bearing. In another form of the invention the central guide track is suspended at each end by a flexure. The flexure has an attaching mechanism for attaching the flexure to the central guide track so that the flexure pivots freely on the central guide track.

  • Patent number: 5982588
Abstract: A linear actuator carries read/write heads into engagement with a removable cartridge having a recording disk. The magnetic heads are mounted on a carriage which moves linearly on a central guide track. The carriage moves linearly on front and rear bearings which move on a central guide track as the magnetic motor is energized. The rear bearing is elongated in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the disk to allow movement of the carriage transverse to the direction of travel. This compensates for planar misalignment of the plane of the recording disk with respect to the axis of the central track.

  • Patent number: 5963399
Abstract: A dual loop flex circuit for conducting signals between heads of an actuator carriage assembly and an electrical circuit board and for supplying power to a voice coil is provided. The first loop conducts the signals between the heads and the second loop supplies power to the coil. Each loop is mounted in part on a shroud which serves as an anchor for the loops. The other parts of the loops are attached to opposite sides of the actuator carriage assembly such that forces exerted on the actuator carriage assembly by the first loop are canceled by forces exerted on the actuator carriage assembly by the second loop.

  • Patent number: 5953889
Abstract: A saddle tree (10) for use in building a western equestrian saddle includes two laterally spaced, elongated bars (12) adapted to extend along either side of the horse's spine when the saddle tree (10) is in a riding position on the horse. A swell (14) is connected between the laterally spaced bars (12) at a forward end of the bars (12). A stirrup slot (20) is positioned in a center portion (18) of each bar for accepting the stirrup leathers for the saddle. Each stirrup slot (20) has a front edge (40) positioned at least two and one-eighth inches behind the back surface (28) of the swell (14). A center seat section or ground seat (18) positioned between the laterally spaced bars (12) includes a lowest point along its centerline positioned at least four inches behind the back surface (28) of the swell (14) and no more than eight inches behind the back surface (28) of the swell (14).

  • Patent number: 5943193
Abstract: A data storage device for receiving a removable disk cartridge includes a slidable platform, a retractable head, and a head retractor. The slidable platform slides between a forward position where the disk cartridge is ejected and a reward position where the disk cartridge is held for data accessing. Thus, when the disk cartridge is ejected, the slidable platform slides forward from the rearward position. As the platform travels forward, the head retractor is caused to drives the retractable heads to their safe park position so as to avoid any damage to the heads.
