More particularly, systems and methods for providing the location of a requested user's cellular phone from a requesting user's device (e.g., a second cellular phone) based on access rights defined by the requested user. Location descriptions may be provided at a multitude of levels. For example, if a cellular phone, or an identity associated to (e.g., logged into) a cellular phone, has been given access rights to a cell phone's exact location for an indefinite amount of time, that cell phone can receive, on command, the exact location of the approved cell phone. Other levels of location information that can be granted include, for example, proximities, states, and countries.

Users can wear head-mounted displays with transparent screens and can control video game indicia that are perceived as being augmented over a user's environment by displaying video game indicia onto the transparent displays. As such, for example, two users can play an airplane dog fighting game where each user controls a plane in their living room. A device that can determine surfaces of objects (e.g., walls) can be utilized such that when the airplane is flown into a wall, the airplane explodes.

Abstract: The present invention provides a remote notification to a user of a cellular, or mobile, phone as the result of a particular activity or any activity at all (e.g., an incoming call from a particular person, group, or just an incoming call). In one embodiment, a sensing device is provided on the cellular phone that communicates/routes an alert to a remote notification device. In one economical embodiment, the notification device may have a short wire-based communication channel (e.g., roughly 1 foot to 5 feet) and only have a single output device (e.g., a light-emitting device). Thus, a woman may be able to quietly receive notifications of a cell phone event when her cell phone is stored in her purse.

Abstract: A method for more efficiently utilizing storage space in a set of storage drives is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method implements, in a set of storage drives, a first RAID utilizing data striping with distributed parity values. The method further implements, in a subset of the set of storage drives, a second RAID using residual storage space in storage drives belonging to the subset. Storage drives belonging to the subset may have a storage capacity that is larger than storage drives not belonging to the subset. In certain embodiments, the method adaptively alters a parity rotation of the first RAID to provide an increased concentration of parity values in certain storage drives of the first RAID compared to other storage drives of the first RAID. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

Abstract: A location-based game system is provided. Such a system may take the form of any device (e.g., a wireless telephone) that includes a locating device (e.g., a GPS system). One such location-based game may operate such that the actual, physical location of a user on a physical playfield corresponds to the location of a virtual character on a virtual playfield. Such location based games are referred to herein as actuality games. In one multiplayer actuality embodiment, two game devices may communicate location, and other, information to a remote database such that the two user's may interact on different physical playfields, but play on the same virtual playfield. A number of wireless communications protocols, self-configuration, and auto-download software applications are also provided to optimize integration with, for example, a wireless telephone.

Abstract: Fluid flow control systems are configured to resist erosion-corrosion and minimize wall shear stress during injection or production. A fluid flow control system includes a base pipe with an internal passageway. A housing is positioned around the base pipe to define a fluid flow path between the filter component and the internal passageway. A flow control component is positioned within the fluid flow path in order to control fluid flow. A flow-induced erosion resistance component, which may take a variety of forms, is positioned within the fluid flow path to reduce and/or eliminate wall shear stress along the base pipe. As a result, erosion-corrosion of the bases pipe is reduced and/or eliminated altogether.

Abstract: A method for more efficiently utilizing storage space in a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method implements a RAID from multiple storage drives. The RAID utilizes data striping with distributed parity values to provide desired data protection/redundancy. The distributed parity values are placed on selected storage drives of the RAID in accordance with a designated parity rotation. The method further adaptively alters the parity rotation of the RAID to provide an increased concentration of parity values in certain storage drives of the RAID compared to other storage drives of the RAID. This parity rotation may be adapted based on residual storage capacity in each storage drive, consumed space in each storage drive, or the like. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.
