Patent number: 6842000Abstract: The invention relates to a magnetic resonance imaging method which is characterized in that the transversal magnetization excited in the object to be imaged is diffusion-weighted before the useful echo (E) used for the reconstruction of an image is induced. When the object is moved, phase changes in the diffusion-weighted transversal magnetization can occur that lead to artifacts in the reconstructed image. These disturbing phase changes are measured by analyzing a navigation signal (N1, N2) that is generated before the useful signal is generated. The result of the measurement is used to change the phase characteristics of the transversal magnetization online by a correctional intervention (C0, C1, C2) in such a way that the measured phase changes are compensated. The invention further relates to a magnetic resonance device for carrying out said method.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2002Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Forderund der Wissenschaften E.V.Inventors: David Norris, Wolfgang Driesel

Patent number: 6709510Abstract: A process for forming cement clinker using mill scale that may have hydrocarbons associated therewith. Normal feedstock material is preheated and then transferred to a combustion area. The mill scale is also transferred to the combustion area where, during the process of burning a material, the unwanted hydrocarbons are volatilized and converted to harmless gaseous products (by combustion) that can be passed to the atmosphere. The combustion area may be a precalciner or may be the feed end of the rotary kiln if the rotary kiln has an adequate temperature profile. The remaining mill scale and feedstock material are thoroughly mixed and blended and the mill scale is diffused and combined with the feedstock material as the mill scale and the feedstock material move from the feed end toward the heat-source end of the rotary kiln to form cement clinker.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Texas Industries, Inc.Inventors: Rom D. Patent number: 6488450Abstract: The T-slot milling cutter disclosed employs an indexable insert having two alternative edge surfaces which serve alternatively as the rake face and rear abutting face of the insert which transfers the cutting force to the rear wall of the insert pocket of the cutter. The alternative edge surfaces comprise three facets, once central to the surface and the other two receding from the central facet at equal angles thereto. They serve primarily to wedge the insert into mating angular surfaces in the rear wall of the insert pocket to secure the insert against dislodgement when held in the pocket by the customary attaching screw and, by their obliquity to the cutting direction, improve the cutting action when serving as the rake face.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2001Date of Patent: December 3, 2002Assignee: Ingersoll Cutting Tool CompanyInventor: David Norris

Patent number: 6246774Abstract: A digital wavetable audio synthesizer including a synthesizer volume generator. The volume generator causing a data sample to be multiplied by volume components that add right offset, left offset, and effects volume to the data. The left and right offsets provide stereo field positioning, and the effects volume is used in generating an echo effect. The data sample can be placed in one of sixteen fixed stereo pan positions, or alternatively the left and right offset values can be programmed to place the data anywhere in the stereo field. The synthesizer includes a register array programmed with right and left offset values for providing wavetable data with right and left offset volume components.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1997Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.Inventors: David Norris, David N. Patent number: 6047073Abstract: A digital wavetable audio synthesizer is described. The synthesizer can generate up to 32 high-quality audio digital signals or voices, including delay-based effects, at either a 44.1 KHz sample rate or at sample rates compatible with a prior art wavetable synthesizer. The synthesizer includes an address generator which has several modes of addressing wavetable data. The address generator's addressing rate controls the pitch of the synthesizer's output signal. The synthesizer performs a 10-bit interpolation, using the wavetable data addressed by the address generator, to interpolate additional data samples. When the address generator loops through a block of data, the signal path interpolates between the data at the end and start addresses of the block of data to prevent discontinuities in the generated signal. A synthesizer volume generator, which has several modes of controlling the volume, adds envelope, right offset, left offset, and effects volume to the data.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1994Date of Patent: April 4, 2000Assignee: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.Inventors: David Norris, David N. Suggs

Patent number: 5668338Abstract: A digital wavetable audio synthesizer with an LFO generator is described. The synthesizer can generate up to 32 high-quality audio digital signals or voices, including delay-based effects. The synthesizer includes an address generator which has several modes of addressing wavetable data. The address generator's addressing rate controls the pitch of the synthesizer's output signal. A synthesizer volume generator, which has several modes of controlling the volume, adds envelope, right offset, left offset, and effects volume to the data. The synthesizer LFO generator can add LFO variation to: (i) the wavetable data addressing rate, for creating a vibrato effect; and (ii) a voice's volume, for creating a tremolo effect. The LFO generator assigns two triangular-wave LFOs to each of the 32 possible voices. One LFO is dedicated to vibrato (frequency modulation) effects and the other to tremolo (amplitude modulation) effects. It is possible to ramp the depth of each LFO into and out of a programmable maximum.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1994Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.Inventors: Larry D.
