Abstract: Disclosed are speculum embodiments and related methods to comfortably dilate a woman's vaginal canal during a pelvic exam. In one aspect, a flute having retractable rods and foldable rings are provided. The flute is configured to transition between an expanded state where the proximal and distal foldable rings are in an unfolded orientation and a collapsed state where the proximal and distal foldable rings are in a folded orientation. A handle maintains the flute in the collapsed state and, in at least one embodiment, a ring collar is provided and configured to engage the flute when the flute is in the expanded state. A light source can be provided in the flute or ring collar.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes: a turbomachine comprising a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section arranged in serial flow order, the turbomachine defining an engine inlet to an inlet duct, a fan duct inlet to a fan duct, and a core inlet to a core duct; a primary fan driven by the turbomachine; and a secondary fan located downstream of the primary fan within the inlet duct, the gas turbine engine defining a thrust to power airflow ratio between 3.5 and 100 and a core bypass ratio between 0.1 and 10, wherein the thrust to power airflow ratio is a ratio of an airflow through a bypass passage over the turbomachine plus an airflow through the fan duct to an airflow through the core duct, wherein the core bypass ratio is a ratio of the airflow through the fan duct to the airflow through the core duct.

Abstract: A strut for an aircraft landing gear is provided. The strut includes a casing configured to absorb landing forces applied to the aircraft landing gear. The casing includes a cavity in which an energy accumulator is housed. The energy accumulator can be a removable cartridge which can be inserted in the cavity. An aircraft landing gear comprising such a strut is also provided. An aircraft comprising at least one such landing gear having such a strut is also provided. A method for emergency deployment of such a landing gear, using energy stored in the energy accumulator integrated in the strut of the landing gear to deploy the landing gear is also provided.

Abstract: A separable mounting hinge device including two detachably engageable leaf hinge members wherein the first hinge member includes at least two knuckles affixed around a pin leaving at least one open knuckle seat therebetween. The second hinge member includes at least one open knuckle capable of operationally engaging around the pin and at least one leaf-knuckle protrusion. The second hinge member may also include a retention member. These hinge members' knuckle(s) and affixed pin open knuckle seat(s) operationally interlock thereby allowing for typical hinge movements, while detachment of said members simply requires the application of force within specifically designated angular ranges to overcome the protrusion, and potentially included retention member. As designed, the separable mounting hinge device minimizes the likelihood of any incidental or accidental detachment and obviates the need to unfasten at least one hinge from a door, panel, or frame only to refasten it later.

Abstract: A personnel lift for agricultural vehicles is shown and described. The lift includes a main column; an electric motor with a first sprocket coupled to the main column; an idler bracket with a second sprocket coupled to the main column. A roller box assembly is disposed inside the main column, with upper and lower chain attachment points and a first roller disposed in the roller box. A roller chain is connected to the upper and lower chain attachment points and in a continuous loop over the first and second sprockets. Upper and lower mounting brackets are provided to mount the personnel lift to a specific make and model of agricultural vehicle. A lifting platform with a support column is provided and two intermediate supports couple the support column to the roller box, the intermediate supports have a second roller.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein that use passive metasurfaces for optical domain image processing, reducing power consumption, latency, and/or computational load in computer vision. As an example, an optical detection device may include an optical assembly that generates multiple copies of an image, which are processed by an array of metasurface filters. Each metasurface filter applies a predefined pattern to a specific image copy. The filtered image copies are used to identify features of interest with reduced computational demands. For example, a first filter may target a first feature, while a second filter targets a second feature. The intensity of the optical radiation output by each filter is used to determine a confidence level that each respective feature is present in the image.

Abstract: In some implementations, an optical device includes a one-way mirror formed by a polarization selective mirror and an absorptive polarizer. The absorptive polarizer has a transmission axis aligned with the transmission axis of the reflective polarizer. The one-way mirror may be provided on the world side of a head-mounted display system. Advantageously, the one-way mirror may reflect light from the world, which provides privacy and may improve the cosmetics of the display. In some implementations, the one-way mirror may include one or more of a depolarizer and a pair of opposing waveplates to improve alignment tolerances and reduce reflections to a viewer. In some implementations, the one-way mirror may form a compact integrated structure with a dimmer for reducing light transmitted to the viewer from the world.

Abstract: In various examples, latency of human interface devices (HIDs) may be accounted for in determining an end-to-end latency of a system. For example, when an input is received at an HID, an amount of time for the input to reach a connected device may be computed by the HID and included in a data packet transmitted by the HID device to the connected device. The addition of the peripheral latency to the end-to-end latency determination may provide a more comprehensive latency result for the system and, where the peripheral latency of an HID is determined to have a non-negligible contribution to the end-to-end latency, a new HID component may be implemented, a configuration setting associated with the HID component may be updated, and/or other actions may be taken to reduce the contribution of the peripheral latency to the overall latency of the system.

Abstract: The technology relates to detecting and responding to processions. For instance, sensor data identifying two or more objects in an environment of a vehicle may be received. The two or more objects may be determined to be disobeying a predetermined rule in a same way. Based on the determination that the two or more objects are disobeying a predetermined rule, that the two or more objects are involved in a procession may be determined. The vehicle may then be controlled autonomously in order to respond to the procession based on the determination that the two or more objects are involved in a procession.

Abstract: Topical pharmaceutical compositions comprising roflumilast and solvents that are capable of dissolving high amounts of roflumilast. The pharmaceutical compositions are capable of dissolving high amounts of roflumilast relative to other commonly used solvents in approved topical pharmaceutical compositions. The solvents are particularly useful when combined with water to maintain high levels of dissolved roflumilast, which is highly insoluble in water.
