  • Publication number: 20230035512
Abstract: An information handling system EMI shield system couples to a circuit board to enclose an electronic device in a Faraday cage and includes a surface painted with a graphene paint to aid in dissipation of excess thermal energy from the electronic device. The EMI shield system has a frame that couples to the circuit board and interfaces with ground to define a boundary around an electronic device connector and has a shield that couples as a separate piece over the frame to enclose the electronic device. Graphene paint applied to some or all of the shield encourages rejection of excess thermal energy from within shield.

  • Publication number: 20230029875
Abstract: An information handling system supports multi-radio and multi-antenna wireless communication by routing coaxial cables between the radios and antennas through a cable clip of a conductive material coupled to system ground and interfaced with the coaxial cable ground sheath through an opening formed in the coaxial cable outer casing. A current source of the radio frequency applies a current in phase with the radio signal to the coaxial cable outer casing to suppress crosstalk with coaxial cables of different frequencies.

  • Publication number: 20230031055
Abstract: Thermal management within an information handling system housing is provided by applying graphene paint to a support structure disposed within the housing, such as a battery casing that supports battery cells, a keyboard lattice that supports keyboard coupling to the housing and screws that attach components to the housing. The graphene paint may have different concentrations of graphene and/or different thicknesses so that the thermal characteristics of the support structure adapt to thermal generation within the housing, such as to keep an even distribution of temperatures within the housing.

  • Publication number: 20230027217
Abstract: A dynamic texture device coupled to an information handling system input/output device adjusts texture at the input/output device surface based upon texture information generated at the information handling system, such as a walking surface in a virtual world defined by a gaming application. Texture at an elastic cover is adjusted by applying variable magnetic fields to a magnetorheological fluid (MRF) disposed under the elastic cover in a reservoir. For example, an electromagnet changes pole orientation and magnetic strength at MRF contained in a reservoir under a keyboard palm rest to simulate walking in a virtual world on different types of surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20230018781
Abstract: A portable information handling system or docking station glass ceramic housing integrates antenna conductive wires in a first glass ceramic piece and a director conductive wire in a second glass ceramic piece coupled to the first ceramic glass piece, such as with optically-clear adhesive. A conductive contact interfaces the antenna conductive wire by exposure at the glass ceramic housing interior where pogo pins of a printed circuit board assembly bias against the conductive contacts to communicate the radio signals. The director conductive wire provides a parasitic element for directional control of the wireless signal. Ground conductive wires may integrate in the exterior side of the second glass ceramic piece and interface with the radio to provide a dipole antenna.

  • Publication number: 20230015184
Abstract: A portable information handling system glass ceramic housing integrates plural wires on opposing sides that interface with a radio to provide a dipole antenna, such as with a radio conductor output interfaced at a wire of the interior side and a radio ground output interfaced at a wire of the exterior side. Conductive contacts interface with the wires by exposure at the glass ceramic housing interior where pogo pins of a printed circuit board assembly bias against the conductive contacts to communicate the radio signals. In one example embodiment, the conductive contacts co-locate with a logo etched into the glass ceramic housing to provide an aesthetically pleasing antenna interface that is difficult to visually detect at the glass ceramic housing exterior.

  • Publication number: 20230010755
Abstract: A docking station or portable information handling system processing component dissipates excess thermal energy through a glass ceramic heat sink disposed in a housing and interfaced with the processing component by a liquid metal embedded elastomer and elastic graphene. For example, plural pieces of glass ceramic material are each coated in graphene and vertically stacked in the housing thermally interfaced with each other by the liquid metal embedded elastomer having the elastic graphene coupled against the graphene coating to exchange thermal energy.

  • Publication number: 20230011184
Abstract: A portable information handling system glass ceramic housing has a cut out section at an opening and a speaker chamber cover disposed in the opening to integrate a speaker at a bottom front side of the housing. A speaker coil couples to the housing section to align with a speaker magnet coupled to the speaker chamber cover to generate audible sound in a speaker chamber defined when the housing section couples over the opening. A polymer material is disposed between the housing section and housing, and the housing section is cut out with an upward curve, so that audible sound is directed upwards from the housing and towards an end user of the information handling system.

  • Publication number: 20230012108
Abstract: A portable information handling system glass ceramic housing integrates a heat sink of thermally conductive wire disposed in a coil or mesh pattern that is difficult to discern from the housing exterior. A thermal transfer device communicates thermal energy from internal processing components to the heat sink in aesthetically pleasing manner. For example, a plastic logo is coated with graphene to transfer thermal energy by pressing against the thermally conductive wire so that that logo is visible from the housing exterior. Through glass via opening provide air passages between the housing interior and exterior to promote rejection of the thermal energy from the housing.

  • Publication number: 20220407996
Abstract: An information handling system peripheral camera ensures privacy with a cover that minimizes distance of a camera module to a front opening of the camera housing. For instance, opposing cover members rotate about geared ends that engage to translate rotation between the members, where the members meet over a camera opening to block capture of visual images and move to opposing sides to expose the camera module. In an alternative embodiment, a rotating shutter arrangement selectively covers the camera for security and also covers a microphone to provide security against unauthorized audible access through the camera. Selective covering and exposing of a camera module, infrared camera, microphone and user presence detection sensor support adaptive security at a camera based upon end user context.

  • Publication number: 20220373869
Abstract: An information handling system peripheral camera is built by inserting a subassembly into a cylindrical housing and enclosing the subassembly with a bezel at the front and cover at the rear. The cylindrical housing is extruded with aluminum to have seams formed along the length of the interior. The seams provide alignment of the subassembly and are machined at the front and rear to form threads that accept screws to couple the bezel and rear cover to the cylindrical housing. To hide the screws, a back plate couples over the rear cover and an opaque treatment is applied to a circumference of a cover glass placed over the bezel.
