Patent number: 8260314Abstract: A delivery period for delivering messages including a notification is determined. A location of a mobile station user is identified. A time zone difference between the location of the mobile station user and a location of a server for delivering the messages is calculated. The delivery period for the notification message is adjusted based on the time zone difference so that the mobile station user receives and confirms the messages at his or her best-acceptable time.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2010Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Cellco PartnershipInventors: Derek Andrew Schroeder, Venkat Gaddam

Patent number: 8194581Abstract: A mobile communication network offers notification to an account holder upon occurrence of an infraction of a subscriber selected restriction by operation of one of the mobile stations under the subscriber's account. In the examples, the subscriber can select a directory number/station under the account, a desired one of a number of available restriction options and one or more parameters of the selected restriction. When the mobile communication network detects an infraction, caused by operation of the mobile station through the network, a system or processor obtains a destination address designated for an account holder, for the subscriber's account, such as the directory number for one of the subscriber's stations selected as that of the account holder. The system sends a notification of the infraction intended for the account holder, using the destination address, for example, as a text message sent through the network to the account holder's mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2008Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Cellco PartnershipInventors: Derek Andrew Schroeder, Raj Narayanasamy, Madhu Bharathula, Venkat Gaddam, Julie Weinstein

Publication number: 20090321025Abstract: This invention relates to pulp reactivity enhancement. In particular, the invention relates to a method of producing an alkali cellulose which includes steps of providing a pulp and subjecting the pulp to an alkaline treatment to produce the alkali cellulose in the presence of a spacer capable of entering the holes in the interfibrillar spaces of the cellulose fibres. The spacer enters the holes in the interfibrillar spaces of the cellulose fibres, particularly those created by the removal of hemi-cellulose, reducing the tendency for collapse to occur, for example during the subsequent pressing step. Examples of suitable spacers are polyethylene glycols, polyvinyl alcohols and polyacrylates.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2007Publication date: December 31, 2009Applicant: SAPPI MANUFACTURING (PTY) LTD.Inventors: Derek Andrew Weightman, Habil Klaus Fischer, Heinzhorst Mobius

Patent number: 7267744Abstract: This invention provides a process for treating chemical woodpulp, or chemical cellulose including cotton linter, including the step of applying an electron processing technology (EPT) step to chemical woodpulp, or chemical cellulose, as the case may be, on an in-line basis to provide control of pulp viscosity or degree of polymerization (DP). The invention also provides a method of process control in treating the aforementioned woodpulp or cellulose, including the step of using radiation dose-viscosity relationship curve for applying an EPT step on an in-line basis. The in-line EPT step may, in one form of the invention, replace and hence eliminate a chemical DP reduction step.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2002Date of Patent: September 11, 2007Assignee: Sappi LimitedInventors: Ian Graveson, Heinzhorst Mobius, Derek Andrew Weightman

Patent number: 6735308Abstract: A connector module (10) for installation on a small mobile telephone to enable the module to rest at a docking station where contacts mate to pass multiple medium to low frequency signals and power and to pass high frequency signals through a coaxial connection of high frequency signals as to an external antenna. The module includes a molded dielectric body (11) having a first body part (13) that holds the first contacts (17) for medium to low frequency signals and power, and having a second body part (14) that extends from a longitudinal end (98) of the first body part and that holds the coaxial contacts (16).Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: ITT Manufacturing Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Manfred Illg, Martin Gollhofer, Dieter Clauss, Derek Andrews, Tobias Schimmele-Brell

Patent number: 6439906Abstract: A switch assembly is provided for mounting on a circuit board and for receiving a coax connector plug that opens the switch and connects the central coax plug element to one of the switch contacts, which enables the use of a plug (100) without a long projecting center contact element (102) and which enables many degrees of misalignment between the plug and switch. The switch (10) includes a housing (11) with an exposed upper face (22) having an entrance (24) for receiving the connector plug. First and second contacts (12, 14) are mounted on the housing, with the first contact including a resilient beam (18) biased up against the second contact but deflectable downwardly out of engagement with the second contact. An electrically conductive projection (19) projects upward at least partially through an opening (26) at the bottom entrance, so the center contact element of the plug does not have to project deeply through the opening in order to operate the switch and electrically connect to the beam.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: ITT Manufacturing Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Ian James Stafford Gray, Derek Andrews, Peter Jordan

Patent number: 5917828Abstract: An ATM reassembly controller is disclosed that optimizes the utilization of host memory space and hardware resources such as I/O bus bandwidth, host memory bandwidth, memory system bandwidth and CPU resources. The system combines, whenever possible, the PDU status, PDU data and pointers to the host memory data buffers into a large burst write to the status queue. In addition, multiple status bundles are packed into a host memory buffer for efficient use of memory. An additional benefit of combining and packing information is that CPU resources are conserved by having combined the information the CPU must access into to a contiguous memory area.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1997Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: NCR CorporationInventor: Derek Andrew Thompson

Patent number: 5881205Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for video signal processing of sequences of digitized images originating from video (10) or film. A field grabber (12) receives the digitized images from the input and identifies the separate fields thereof. An image manipulation stage (14) combines fields as required and reduces the number of pixels per line and pixel lines in each image by applying horizontal and vertical compression; this stage also provides filtering and resizing of the image as required. Following encoding (16) of the compressed images, the encoded data stream may then be processed (18) into a form for recording onto, for example, an optical disc. By appropriate choice of the number of lines to which the image manipulation stage (14) reduces the image, discs playable on either PAL or NTSC standard equipment may be produced from a single image source.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1996Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Derek Andrew, Ian S.
