  • Publication number: 20080241695
Abstract: The present invention relates to a carbon nanotube composite electrode material, a method for manufacturing the same and an electrode including the carbon nanotube composite material. The carbon nanotube electrode material includes carbon fibers and carbon nanotubes. The carbon fibers constitute a network structure. The carbon nanotubes are wrapped around and adhering to the carbon fibers. Because a diameter of the carbon fibers is about 100 times larger than that of the carbon nanotubes, gaps between the carbon fibers are also larger than that between the carbon nanotubes such that electrolytes can easily penetrate into the carbon fibers and come into contact with all or nearly all of the available surface area of the carbon nanotubes. In other words, an effective surface area of the carbon nanotubes is improved, and capacity of electrode material is also improved.

  • Publication number: 20040258340
Abstract: A wavelength tunable optical device comprises a polarization maintaining (PM) optical fiber having a length, a first end, a second end, and an initial birefringence. The PM optical fiber receives polarized light from a first polarizer adjacent to the first end of the PM optical fiber. A second polarizer receives a light output from the second end of the PM optical fiber. A wavelength tunable optical device provides a plurality of spectral peaks leaving the second polarizer with a periodicity determined by the length of the PM optical fiber. Each of the plurality of spectral peaks has a wavelength dependent upon the length and the initial birefringence of the PM optical fiber. The PM optical fiber is a radiation tunable optical fiber adaptable to a tuned birefringence such that the periodicity and each of the wavelengths change to a selectively tuned wavelength and a tuned periodicity.

  • Patent number: 6498680
Abstract: An optical wavelength router separates even and odd optical channels from an input WDM signal. The input beam is first converted into a pair of orthogonally-polarized beams. One of the beams is reflected by a mirror, while the other is reflected by a Fabry-Perot resonator (or etalon). The group delay of the reflected beams is strongly dependent on wavelength. The beams reflected from the resonator and mirror are combined and interfere in a birefringent element (e.g., a beam displacer or polarized beamsplitter) to produce a beam having mixed polarization as a function of wavelength. The polarized components of this beam are separated by a polarization-dependent routing element to produce two output beams containing complementary subsets of the input optical spectrum (e.g., even optical channels are routed to output port A and odd optical channels are routed to output port B).
