The polymer component is grafted to the halogenated hydrocarbon wax component, and the wax-polymer compound has a number average molecular weight of about 1,000 to about 100,000. A method of making the wax-polymer compound and a coated silica particle are also disclosed.

A decoder is configured to receive a temperature value and multiple trim codes each corresponding to one temperature. Decoder and adder circuitry is configured to receive the temperature value from the decoder and to receive two closest trim codes of the plurality of trim codes corresponding to two closest temperatures of the temperatures that are closest to the temperature value. The decoder and adder circuitry then calculates an output trim code based at least in part on the two closest trim codes; outputs the trim code.

The pulse generator circuit may include a capacitor coupled between a first reference voltage and a first node, wherein the capacitor is configured to be charged and discharged through the node in response to the periodic pulse, a resistor and a diode coupled in series between a second node and a second reference voltage, and a comparator coupled to the first and second nodes and configured to provide the periodic pulse based on voltages on the first and second nodes, wherein a period of the periodic pulse is based at least on the resistor and the a current.

An apparatus may include a power generation unit that powers components of the apparatus and a bleeder circuit. The bleeder circuit may include an operational amplifier. Further, the bleeder circuit may include leakage current generator circuitry that is coupled to the operational amplifier and generates a first current that mimics leakage current generated by the power generation unit. Furthermore, the bleeder circuit may include leakage current mirroring circuitry that is coupled to an output of the operational amplifier and that generates a second current that mirrors the first current. In addition, the bleeder circuit may also include leakage current bleeder circuitry that is coupled to the leakage current mirroring circuitry and that generates a third current that sinks the leakage current to ground.

    Abstract: Various embodiments of a monolithic avalanche photodiode (APD) are described, which may be fabricated on a silicon-on-insulator substrate. The monolithic APD includes an optical waveguide that guides an incident light to an active region of the APD. An optical coupler is integrally formed with the optical waveguide to capture the incident light. The monolithic APD also includes an optical reflector to reflect a portion of the incident light that is not readily captured by the optical coupler back to the optical coupler for further capturing. The active region includes an absorption layer for converting the incident light into a photocurrent, an epitaxial structure for amplifying the photocurrent by avalanche multiplication, as well as a pair of electrical conductors for conducting the amplified photocurrent.

    Abstract: Various embodiments of a monolithic electro-optical (E-O) modulator are described, which may be fabricated on a silicon-on-insulator substrate. The monolithic E-O modulator includes an optical waveguide that allows an optical signal to propagate therein. The monolithic E-O modulator also includes a comb-shaped transmission line for conducting an electrical modulation signal that modulates the optical signal. The comb-shaped transmission line includes electrical conductors running in parallel with the optical waveguide. At least one of the conductors includes recesses or thin slots that form the conductor into a shape having a plurality of teeth, like a comb. The comb-shaped transmission line can be engineered to realize a close matching between a propagation velocity of the optical signal along the optical waveguide and a group velocity of the electrical modulation signal along the comb-shaped transmission line, which helps to achieve a high operating speed of the monolithic E-O modulator.

The suspended structure may be utilized to result in a lower radio-frequency loss and an effective group refractive index of the phase shifter that is closer to the refractive index of silicon waveguides or optical fibers, both advantageous to enhancing the performance of the E-O modulator such as a higher operating bandwidth.

The monolithic E-O modulator further includes a resistor-capacitor-bias-capacitor (RCBC) electrode structure configured to receive an electrical modulation signal, a direct-current (DC) bias voltage and a power supply voltage. Specifically, the RCBC electrode structure includes a resistor coupled to the modulation electrode and two capacitors each coupled to a respective end of the bias electrode. Beneficially, the RCBC electrode structure enables the p-n junction diodes to be biased independently from a DC level of the electrical modulation signal.
