  • Patent number: 6878043
Abstract: Method of grinding a concentrically clamped crankshaft, a crankshaft grinding machine for carrying out the method, and a crankshaft of high-alloy steel or cast material. The method provides for pin journals and main journals of the crankshaft to be ground in one set-up such that first, at least the main journals are rough-ground and then the pin journals are finish-ground and after that the main journals are finish-ground. The crankshaft grinding machine forms a machining center by means of which corresponding rough-grinding and finish-grinding is possible in a single set-up.

  • Publication number: 20040209558
Abstract: During centerless cylindrical grinding, attention must be paid to the fact that the workpiece (3) is placed in a very specific position between the grinding wheel (1), the regulating wheel (2) and the support guide (4). The optimal position of the workpiece (3) initially set cannot be maintained as a result of the progression of the grinding process and the changes caused by said process in the diameter and contour of the workpiece (3). The invention provides a solution to said problem, whereby height adjustment and/or the oblique position of the support guide (4) are automatically modified in accordance with the progression of the grinding process and during said grinding process with the purpose of achieving operationally optimal readjustment. The progression of the grinding process can be detected using measuring techniques, e.g. by measuring the diameter of the workpiece (3) or its deviation from roundness and using said measurement as output variable for adjusting the support guide (4).

  • Patent number: 6623332
Abstract: A method for controlling the process during rough grinding of a workpiece provides that the workpiece is measured during grinding by a sensor to ascertain an actual size, and the measured actual size is corrected in a continuously automatic manner to attain a predetermined specified size according to grinding time. Additionally, a grinding machine for carrying out the method comprises a grinding wheel for rough grinding a workpiece on a grinding spindle head. The grinding machine also has a sensor for detecting a ground workpiece dimension, and a machine controller. The workpiece is held between a workpiece spindle and a tail spindle. The sensor is arranged primarily in a plane defined by a current contact area of the grinding wheel on the workpiece which rotates, and during rough grinding, the sensor continuously transmits measurement signals to the machine controller.

  • Publication number: 20030060133
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for grinding fluted tools (10) that have an essentially circular envelope curve, in particular, for grinding spiral fluted tools. The device provided with a steady for guiding the tool to be ground comprises a guideway (8) with at least two inner lateral faces. The lateral faces each extend in planes in a manner that is essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tool to be ground and they form an angle for accommodating the tool to be ground, whereby the tool to be ground rests each time with at least two circumferential points (a11, a12) of its essentially circular envelope curve at least on two of the inner lateral faces of the guideway. In order to carry out the inventive method, a tool to be ground is appropriately clamped and pressed into the guideway by means of at least one grinding wheel (41) while the flutes are ground.
