  • Patent number: 8728589
Abstract: A laser decal transfer is used to generate thin film features by directing laser pulses of very low energy at the back of a target substrate illuminating an area of a thin layer of a high viscosity rheological fluid coating the front surface of the target. The illuminated area is shaped and defined by an aperture centered about the laser beam. The decal transfer process allows for the release and transfer from the target substrate to the receiving substrate a uniform and continuous layer identical in shape and size of the laser irradiated area. The released layer is transferred across the gap with almost no changes to its initial size and shape. The resulting patterns transferred onto the receiving substrate are highly uniform in thickness and morphology, have sharp edge features and exhibit high adhesion, independent of the surface energy, wetting or phobicity of the receiving substrate.

  • Publication number: 20140019375
Abstract: A computing system and computer-implemented method may be used by prospective students and their influencers to choose an academic offering, such as a college major. The computing system enables its user to query an academic institution's database using exact match terms or intelligent-associated keywords. In response to the query, the computing system may identify an academic offering that most closely matches the search query. In addition, or in the alternative, the computing system may further identify alternative academic offerings. The system and method may further be utilized by academic institutions to tailor academic offerings to prospective students. The collected data may be shared among multiple participating academic institutions, and in some embodiments reports of user data relevant to each academic institution are generated for that institution's consideration and use.

  • Patent number: 8284982
Abstract: A variety of loudspeaker arrangements may have any of multiple adjacent magnetic circuits, single magnetic circuits, an improved loudspeaker voice coil assembly, multiple voice coil windings (124-127, 315-317), and commutated current. The radial direction of flux may alternate at adjacent poles and may have a controller that commands the current through each of the windings. The position of the moving components may be measured or inferred by the controller (213). An encoding track (318a) applied to the surface of the assembly may allow the assembly to function as part of a position transducer to permit appropriate action based on position. Calculated or sensed actual position may be used to determine the relative current in each of the windings and the controller may have compensation such as a motion control algorithm, thermal monitoring, and management of the driver.

  • Patent number: 7970671
Abstract: Transaction management for contract and contract-related approaches is facilitated. According to an example embodiment of the present invention, a transaction management system automatically sets contract terms including currency conversion terms for a transaction based on business rules previously established between parties to a transaction. In one implementation, the transaction management node automatically derives a contract term including a pricing-related term for a transaction between a buyer and seller using contract information therefor. The pricing-related term is used to set a price for the transaction, and a currency conversion term is used to convert the set price (or a portion of the set price corresponding to a particular transaction party) into a different currency.
