  • Patent number: 5322653
Abstract: A method of repairing a damaged (e.g., cracked) portion of a buried sewage pipe by permeating one or more layers of fibrous material with a hardenable plastic compound (such as epoxy resin), convoluting the thus obtained mat around a radially expandible length of hose to permit frictional engagement between the internal surface of the mat and the external surface of the hose, introducing the hose into a selected defective portion of the pipe, expanding the hose and the convoluted mat so that the mat engages the internal surface of the pipe, deflating the hose, and withdrawing the hose from the pipe, preferably after the plastic compound has set wherein a film of polyethylene is inserted between the external surface of the hose and the internal surface of the convoluted mat to enhance friction and to thus compel the hose to turn in the course of the expanding step.

  • Patent number: 5169285
Abstract: Apparatus for singularizing stacked paper sheets has a rotary withdrawing conveyor with an annulus of equidistant satellites having suction cups which attract successive lowermost sheets of a stack in a magazine adjacent a first portion of an endless path for the satellites. The satellites deliver the sheets into a second portion of the endless path where the leaders of the sheets are caused to project radially outwardly and to enter the spaces between the open jaws of grippers which are transported by an endless chain in such a way that a gripper which is about to receive a sheet is moved at the speed of the oncoming sheet-carrying satellite and in the same direction. The satellites have discs cooperating with an endless band serving to gradually release a sheet which is in the process of advancing with a gripper.

  • Patent number: 5110108
Abstract: Apparatus for advancing sections of newspapers has a first conveyor with equidistant grippers which deliver a series of suspended sections to a transfer conveyor. The latter delivers successive sections into successive pockets of a turret-shaped conveyor and comprises a driven shaft carrying two annuli of bearings for the stubs of two sets of plate-like clamping members. Each clamping member of one set cooperates with a clamping member of the other set to engage a section which is delivered by an oncoming gripper and to transfer the thus engaged section into a pocket of the turret-shaped conveyor. The clamping members of each set are pivotable relative to the shaft and orbit about the shaft when the latter is driven to advance the clamping members along an endless path. The devices for pivoting the two sets of clamping members during predetermined stages of each revolution of the shaft employ exchangeable stationary cams and followers provided on the respective sets of clamping members to track the cams.

  • Patent number: 5085997
Abstract: In a method of the separation of yeasts from a fermentation liquor contained in a fermentation tank the fermentation liquor is forced by a pump through a conduit system into a filter container in which the fermentation liquor is forced through a number of vertically suspended candle-like filters so that yeast filter cakes are formed on the filter cloth with water of the filters. The cakes are then washed with water, blown off with pressurized air for dewatering, loosened with a counterflow of a pressurized gas and discharged from the filter container. The filter container is immediately connected to the fermentation tank.

  • Patent number: 5069559
Abstract: A spherical bearing with selectable electrical conductivity includes a bearing body having a spherical supporting surface, a layer of electrically insulating material and a housing having a concave spherical seating surface which form a ball joint having a center around which the bearing body may swivel relative to the housing when the housing is not clamped against the insulating layer and bearing body with the force required for operation of the bearing. A first positioning pin of electrically conductive material projects radially through the insulating layer and into a recess formed in the housing. Electrical connection between the housing and the bearing body is provided by a compression spring which bears against the recess and the first positioning pin. A second positioning pin of electrically insulating material may be selected in lieu of the first positioning pin and spring to provide a bearing configuration wherein the body is insulated from the housing.

  • Patent number: 5064187
Abstract: A link chain has alternating first and second links which are articulately connected to each other by universal joints. Each first link carries a gripper with a fixed jaw and a second jaw pivotable between first and second end positions through a dead-center intermediate position. Springs are provided to permanently bias each second jaw to either of the two end positions, and each second jaw is connected with a follower which can track a set of cams at two spaced-apart stations to move the second jaw between its end positions. Each link of the chain carries two shafts for pairs of roller followers which track the lateral edge faces of two flanges of an elongated guide rail having an H-shaped cross-sectional outline. The guide rail is bent and/or twisted, if necessary, to establish a helical, arcuate, looped and/or other complex path for advancement of successive links between the two stations.

  • Patent number: 5029615
Abstract: The method for lining a pipe laid in the ground, especially a sewer conduit made from concrete, asbestos cement or stoneware, comprises making a lining tube for the pipe with an outer layer and an inner layer made from fiber fleece and a barrier layer impermeable to fluid located between the inner layer and the outer layer. The outer layer is soaked with a stress-free hardenable plastic resin adhering well to the pipe in one or more regions of over its entire length and the inner layer is soaked with the same or another plastic resin having reduced shrinkage not impairing the outer layer. The lining tube is introduced into the pipe and pressed on the inner surfaces of the pipe to be sanitized. The plastic resin is hardened to form an adhesive bond between the pipe and the outer layer. Advantageously the outer layer is soaked with epoxy resin and the inner layer is soaked with polyester resin. The product of this method, a sanitized conduit, is also described.
