  • Publication number: 20200125186
Abstract: An active stylus includes a signal processing section. The signal processing section during operation in a first mode, while supplying a downlink signal DS1, obtained by modulating a pulse train signal with a pen pressure level P, to an electrode, determines whether it is necessary to switch to a second mode. The signal processing section during operation in the second mode, while supplying a downlink signal DS2, obtained by modulating a sine wave signal with the pen pressure level P, to the electrode, determines whether it is necessary to switch to the first mode. The signal processing section switches to operation in the second mode when determining that such is necessary, and switches to operation in the first mode when determining that such is necessary. The active stylus may be used with two position detection devices, one supporting only the first method and the other supporting only the second method.

  • Publication number: 20200057512
Abstract: A stylus is provided, which includes a core body, an electrode disposed adjacent to the core body, a transmitter that sends a downlink signal including switch information SW1 using the electrode, and a controller that determines whether the stylus is in contact state with an operating surface or the stylus is in hover state. In the contact state, the controller controls the transmitter to send the switch information SW1 at a first bit rate. In the hover state, the controller controls the transmitter to send the switch information SW1 at a second bit rate smaller than the first bit rate. A technical advantage includes lowering the possibility of a failure to receive downlink signals when the stylus is in hover state, even though the stylus sends the downlink signals with the same intensity as when the stylus is in contact state.

  • Publication number: 20190179429
Abstract: A processor of a stylus according to the present disclosure detects a first signal supplied to a sensor electrode group in each frame. The processor determines whether the first signal represents a setting instruction of a local ID, and writes a value of the local ID specified by the setting instruction in a memory if the first signal is determined to represent the setting instruction. The processor repeatedly detects a second signal supplied to the sensor electrode group in each of one or more slots included in the frame. The processor compares values of a local ID included in the detected second signal and the local ID stored in the memory every time the processor detects the second signal, and transmits a first downlink signal to a sensor controller using an electrode if the values correspond with each other.
