  • Patent number: 6731928
Abstract: A system enabling mobile wireless users to obtain information on other proximate users both fixed and wireless. Said information is gathered from a central database that stores user profiles and real-time locations of system users. Mobile users can request information on nearby users by submitting a request from a mobile telephone or similar communications endpoint to the central database. The request is accompanied by the user's location, obtained from GPS (Global Positioning System) or other technology, or from user input. The server searches the profile database for nearby users based on requester's location, locations of other users of the system and optional parameters specified in the request. Search results are returned to the requester. The system facilitates communication between requester and owner(s) of profiles returned by system.

  • Publication number: 20040036977
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical illumination device that permits an increase in the fill of a multiplicity of light sources that constitute a secondary source formed on an illuminated pupil plane. A fly's eye lens that forms a multiplicity of light sources from a light beam emitted by an optical integrator is disposed in the optical path between the optical integrator and an irradiation surface. The fly's eye lens comprises, in order from the light-source side, a first fly's eye member and a second fly's eye member. A cylindrical lens group arranged in a first direction is formed on each of the light source-side surface of a first fly's eye member and the light source-side surface of a second fly's eye member, and a cylindrical lens is group arranged in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction is formed on each of the irradiation surface side surface of the first fly's eye member and the irradiation surface side surface of the second fly's eye member.

  • Patent number: 6675377
Abstract: An optimization information attaching apparatus 100 stores a source program including class definitions and a class instruction. The class definitions each include a class, a virtual function and a base class, and the call instruction calls one of the virtual functions. The optimization information attaching apparatus detects a class that is not inherited by another class, and attaches optimization information to the class definition including the detected class. A compiling apparatus 110 reads the call instruction from the source program, judges whether the virtual function belongs to a class that is not inherited by another class by referring to the optimization information in the source program, and generates an executable instruction group for calling the virtual function directly.

  • Patent number: 6647269
Abstract: Accurate location information about a mobile telecommunication transceiver is used to generate advertising content responsive to a user approaching the location of a business. This advertising content is tailored to the user's preferences and the particular business involved. Once the advertising content is delivered, the position of the user is monitored to track the effectiveness of the advertisement. If the user enters the business' store and/or makes a purchase, the advertisement is logged as having been successful. If the user does not enter the store within a predetermined period of time or moves away from the store, the advertisement is considered to have been ineffective.

  • Patent number: 6584397
Abstract: In a posture control apparatus controlling the posture of a vehicle in yawing direction by independently controlling brakes of the wheels, intervention of a first understeer control suppressing an understeering tendency is carried out when the understeering tendency of the vehicle is stronger than a preset reference value. Moreover, intervention of a second understeer control, in which the control amount is lower than in the first understeer control, is carried out when the actual yaw rate does not make a predetermined change with respect to a change of a steering wheel angle, thus improving the sense of stability and the controllability felt by the driver.

  • Patent number: 6548199
Abstract: A fuel cell device that is designed to circulate cooling water with simplified and compact construction, without any need of a pump for circulating the cooling water, so as to reduce electric power loss. A fuel cell and a radiator are connected through a closed line via an inflow-side cooling pipe and an outflow-side cooling pipe and also the radiator is disposed under the wing of an air spoiler spaced above the fuel cell and open to outside air. With this arrangement, while the fuel cell generates electric power, the cooling water of decreased density flowing out of the fuel cell is allowed to rise through the outflow-side cooling pipe to feed it to the radiator and the cooling water of increased density that was cooled down by heat exchanging the cooling water and outside air is allowed to lower through the inflow-side cooling pipe to feed it to the fuel cell again.

Abstract: A method and system for selectively connecting proximately located telecommunications units are disclosed. The method and system may be used in a location aware telecommunications system that can determine the location of a telecommunications unit (TU) being used within the system. A first TU may be connected to a second TU when the first and second TUs are within a predetermined distance of each other and when a first user associated with the first TU may be connected to a second user associated with the second TU on a graph representing individual relationships, such as an acquaintance graph or genealogical tree. The connection may further be based on whether the first and second users have a less than a maximum threshold degree of separation within the relationship graph.

  • Publication number: 20030015600
Abstract: A fuel injection device is so constructed that fuel fed from a pressure storage chamber to a valve housing (11) with a nozzle (14) is led to a needle valve back pressure chamber (16) through a groove (21) provided on the peripheral surface of a needle valve (17); a fuel pressure in the back pressure chamber (16) is controlled by opening and closing a pressure regulating port (13) provided in the valve housing by a pilot valve (38) so as to move the needle valve, whereby the nozzle is opened and closed. The pressure regulating port is opened and closed by a drive control of the pilot valve with a valve drive unit by means of elongation and contraction of the magnetostrictive rods attributable by the action of an external magnetic field. The magnetostrictive rods, consisting of first and second magnetostrictive rods (34 and 35), are axially arranged side by side in parallel to the pilot valve.
