Publication number: 20150192738Abstract: An apparatus for splicing, tapering and heat processing optical fibers is disclosed. The apparatus may include a laser configured to irradiate a portion of one or more optical fibers by at least two laser beams. The beams may be configured to irradiate different areas of the exterior surface of the fiber portion such as to increase the uniformity of heating distribution over the exterior surface of a portion of the optical fiber. In a configuration using two beams to irradiate the fiber portion the angle between the beams may be the closest angle to 180 degrees for which coupling between the first beam and the second beam is avoided. The apparatus may include three or more beams distributed around the optical fiber such as to irradiate the fiber portion uniformly and provide uniform heating of the fiber.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2013Publication date: July 9, 2015Applicant: AFL TELECOMMUNICATIONS LLCInventors: Wenxin Zheng, Toshirou Mizushima, Hiroshi Sugawara, William Klimowych, Doug Duke

Publication number: 20150171795Abstract: A digital amplifier includes a switch, a driving unit, an input signal detector, a control unit and a delay unit. The switch amplifies a signal input to the digital amplifier. The driving unit turns the switch on and off. The input signal detector detects whether an input signal is input to the digital amplifier. The control unit controls the switch to start switching when a signal is input to the digital amplifier and detected. The control unit controls the switch to stop the switching operation by stopping the driving of the driving unit, when the signal is not input to the digital amplifier and not detected. The delay unit delays an input signal to the digital amplifier by a predetermined time until the switching is started, so as to be transmitted to the switch. The switch amplifies the input signal sent to the digital amplifier via the delay unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2014Publication date: June 18, 2015Applicants: PANASONIC CORPORATION, ROLAND CORPORATIONInventors: Hiroshi SUGAWARA, Hisayuki SASAKI, Shigeki NIWAYAMA, Yoshiki MAEDA, Toshimi TAKANO

Patent number: 8987664Abstract: Vacuum gauges are arranged in intermediate vacuum chamber and analytical chamber 10 in which collision cell is installed, and gas pressure determination unit determines whether or not the gas pressures detected by vacuum gauges are at or below a threshold value prior to analysis, and issues an alert if they are at or below the threshold value. If the supply of CID gas into collision cell stagnates, the quantity of CID gas flowing out into the analytical chamber will decrease, and the degree of vacuum in the analytical chamber will thus become too high. Furthermore, if the heated capillary becomes clogged, the quantity of gas flow into the intermediate vacuum chamber from the ionization chamber, which has an ambient pressure atmosphere, will decrease, and thus the degree of vacuum inside the intermediate vacuum chamber will become too high.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2013Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: Shimadzu CorporationInventor: Hiroshi Sugawara

Patent number: 8772707Abstract: As a control parameter given to a direct-current (DC) voltage generator which generates a DC voltage for ion selection, a “mass-related offset” for allowing an adjustment of the offset for each mass-to-charge ratio is provided in addition to the “gain” and “common offset” which respectively determine the gradient and position of a scan line drawn on a stability diagram during a mass-scan operation. In an automatic adjustment operation using a standard sample, under the control of an automatic regulator, the “gain” and “common offset” are initially set, after which the “mass-related offset” for each mass-to-charge ratio is determined so that the mass-resolving power will be substantially uniform, and these data are stored in a control data memory. In an analysis of a sample of interest, a quadrupole voltage controller controls the DC voltage generator and a radio-frequency (RF) voltage generator according to the control parameters read from the memory.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2010Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignee: Shimadzu CorporationInventors: Shiro Mizutani, Hiroshi Sugawara

Patent number: 8698072Abstract: A high-quality mass spectrum is provided with alleviated mass/charge axis deviation in a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer even when executing a high-speed mass scan with MS/MS analysis. Mass calibration tables which denote relations between m/z and a mass deviation value which scan speed is a parameter are prepared separately for use in MS analyses without involving dissociation operations and MS/MS analyses with involving dissociation operations. According to a measuring mode, such as a product ion scan measurement or a neutral loss scan measurement, when performing MS/MS analysis, a mass deviation value for the minimum scan speed in a table is used for a quadrupole where the selected m/z is fixed, and a mass deviation value for a designated scan speed in a table is used for a quadrupole where the mass scan is performed, thus controlling the operations of each of a pre-stage and a post-stage quadrupoles.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2011Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Shimadzu CorporationInventors: Hiroshi Sugawara, Daisuke Okumura
