  • Patent number: 5298861
Abstract: A magnetic resonance imaging method capable of discriminating the flow directions of fluids, such as bloodstreams, and suitable for MR angiography first selectively excites two side regions, which are located in the vicinity of a region to be imaged including fluids in an object to be examined, and which include first and second fluids flowing into the region to be imaged along different directions, by using RF pulses (90.degree. pulses) different from each other in phase by 90.degree.. A spin in one side region is rotated to the x'-axis direction in a rotating coordinate system, and that in the other side region is rotated to the y'-axis direction in the system. A 180.degree. pulse is applied to the region to be imaged to invert the polarity of a spin, thereby generating MR signals. The acquired MR signals are subjected to quadrature detection, and MR images are reconstructed for both a real-part component and an imaginary-part component different from each other in phase by 90.degree..

  • Patent number: 5272865
Abstract: A method and apparatus for carrying out a roving bobbin exchange operation when applied to a conventional ring spinning frame. The roving bobbin exchange operation is simultaneously carried out on a plurality of successive pairs of a front bobbin hanger and a back bobbin hanger of the creel portion of the spinning frame by intermittently displacing the operation unit along the spinning frame and by utilizing a plurality of pairs of a first sub-peg unit having a front peg and a back peg, and a second sub-peg unit having a front peg and a back peg unit, whereby a roving bobbin mounted on the front peg of the first sub-peg unit can be transferred to the back peg of the second sub-peg unit, and vice versa, during the exchange operation, and thus the unit roving bobbin exchange operation can be carried out in a very limited space defined by twice a pitch between two adjacent pairs of a front bobbin hanger and a back bobbin hanger facing the first bobbin hanger.

  • Patent number: 5036372
Abstract: An avalanche transistor has a heterojunction emitter-base junction. The avalanche transistor includes a spacer layer provided between an emitter layer and a base layer. The spacer layer has an energy band gap between that of the base layer and that of the emitter layer, a carrier concentration lower than that of the base layer, and a thickness so that the whole spacer layer becomes a depletion layer at thermal equillibrium so that a neutral region is produced in the spacer layer at a voltage lower than the threshold voltage of the emitter-base junction. Thus, the same element is both bistable with the base current as a parameter and has an S-shaped negative differential resistance with the base voltage as a parameter.

  • Patent number: 4675521
Abstract: A transparent optical cable 5 including a flexible core 5a and a flexible but stiffer cladding 5b transmits light signals axially through the core. When a transparent contact plate 7 or roller 10 depresses and flatteningly distorts the cable, the light signals leak out through the core-cladding interface at the depressed portion and are transmitted through the plate or roller to a photoelectric transducer 8 or 12 mounted on the plate or proximate the roller on a movable object 1, which converts the light signals to electrical signals. Signal transmissions into the cable are also possible, and the input-output signal coupling depression may be made at any point along the length of the cable.

  • Patent number: 4656423
Abstract: An NMR diagnostic apparatus capable of obtaining tomographic images in any direction and in any portion of the patient. A magnetic device applies a static magnetic field along a longitudinal axis of the patient. A first coil device is arranged along this longitudinal axis and applies a first gradient magnetic field in conjunction with the static magnetic field so as to define a slice in the patient which is to be examined. The first coil device also applies at least one second gradient magnetic field which defines a projection angle from which NMR signals are obtained. A probe head coil device applies RF pulses to excite nuclei in the slice and to detect the NMR signals emanating from the slice. A second coil device is arranged along the longitudinal axis and applies to the slice a shifting magnetic field which shifts a magnetically-zero plane of the first gradient magnetic field in a direction perpendicular to the magnetically-zero plane.

  • Patent number: 4649743
Abstract: An abnormal noise detector for use in evaluating the quality of automotive gear units or the like is disclosed. The present invention employs a microphone which picks up the noise produced by a gear unit being tested and an adjustable bandpass filter connected to the microphone which passes only those signals from the microphone having a desired frequency, the desired frequency being a function of the rate of rotation of the gear unit. The bandpass filter is controlled by a proportional amplifier responsive to the rate of rotation of the gear unit which at any rate of rotation of the gear unit causes the bandpass filter to pass only the desired frequency. The filtered output from the bandpass filter is applied to an X-Y recorder which automatically plots the sound pressure of the noise having the desired frequency as a function of the rate of rotation of the gear unit or as a function of the desired frequency.
